Re: What should I look for?

I wish I knew more about it to tell you. He did say that the transmission is a muncie. He only ran it for a minute and has no idea about the condition of the transmission. It is a stripped down racer; open wheels, nothing for comfort, it looks to be lowered as well. I thought about doing a little sy...

What should I look for?

I am going in a few days to check out an old t that a guy pulled out of a barn. I am thinking about buying it but since it is pretty modified I wanted to ask what I should be looking at specifically and what might be red flags. The car was apparently built pretty early and was raced back in the day....

Just seeing if anyone has a usable top boot for a 26 touring. I am also looking for a used but usable set of curtains for the same car.

Re: Anyone heading to Luray?

First, I do want to thank everyone who has offered advice thus far. I am normally very adept at sorting out issues when they arise but I don't know if it is other things that I have going on that have muddled my thinking or what. Anyway, here is an update on what I have tried thusfar. I removed the ...

Anyone heading to Luray?

I wanted to see if anyone going to Luray and passing through Southwest Virginia on I 81 might be willing to stop by Marion, Virginia for a few minutes to check out my T and help me figure out what is causing it to run rough. I have posted about this before and have worked my way down your list of su...

Last trucks with mechanical brakes?

This is not a T question but I figured that someone would know the answer. In addition to Model T s I also have a team of mules to get around town with and today I bought a nice old heavy freight wagon. I normally wouldn't buy one that had been changed to automobile wheels but this one had been chan...

Kingston 4 ball carb

I went out to help a young guy get his 26 T running today and show him how to drive it. When I raised th hood I was surprised to see a nice polished 4 ball Kingston. We got the car started and it ran pretty good but the choke/mixture linkage for a 26 doesn't work with that carb. To start it it took ...

Tell me what I am missing

My 26 t has started running poorly. I actually wrote about this previously but after much tinkering I have no solution and more issues. The car doesn't have a miss but it isn't running smoothly and it seems to be getting worse. I drove about 30 miles yesterday and by the time I got home it was worse...

Mixed band types?

It is time for a new set of bands on my 26 . I vaguely remember reading here on the forum someone talking about mixing band types and using wood on the brake drum and maybe kevlar on the others or that may be backward. It seems that at the time their reasoning made sense but like I say my recollecti...

Re: Surging?

A couple folks mentioned possible fuel/ carb issues which I will check tomorrow but I did forget to mention that I have a restored Kingston carb and a new sediment bowl. Also, and I know it is not the best idea, I put a temporary fuel filter in the line. It is a riding mower filter so it is a little...

Surging?

I thought I would check in with the experts before I take to tinkering tomorrow. Not too much to my dismay at the moment all of our modern vehicles are having issues so our 26 touring has had to step up to fill the void. Today I had to run to Wytheville (about 60 miles roundtrip) to get some feed fo...

Wheel parts needed

I have an old T trailer that I am trying to get on the road and am looking for some rusty ugly but usable bits to finish it. It is definitely in a heavily "antiqued" state that I kind of like so the anything else that I put on it needs to match. All I am needing is bolts and nuts for mounting the ri...

Top bow replacement question

I wonder if it is possible to replace the front top bow on a 26 touring and save the top. I can't see how it happened since every other bow is solid and the top is pretty nice, though very old, but my front bow has nearly turned to dust. The top material attached to it is nice and solid. To me, it l...

I think that this is an impossible task but I thought I would ask. My 26 touring has a bad bow right at the front. I can't really understand what happened to it. Every other one is rock solid but the front one is not broken, it seems to have just disintegrated inside the canvas. It somehow is comple...

Re: Magneto question

I haven't tried bypassing the switch to run on just the mag but I believe that it should work fine. At a little above idle speed the magneto is putting out about 20 volts. It could be better but I don't think that it is a bad reading. I may try to charge it again sometime.

I have checked everything magneto related (even recharged the mag) and it has to be in the switch. How easily serviced are the 26 switches? I would have taken it apart while I had it out but I am always fearful of breaking off those little ears that are bent to hold the back on.

When I bought my last T, about 2 1/2 hours from home, the purchase included 3 partially disassembled engines, a pre26 transmission, a few pans, a rear end, some oval gas tanks and some other random bits.
