Before the vendors had RHD panels, I rebuilt originals with weld and oil hardened them.
I'ts not hard to do.
Allan from down under.
Hi Allan,

Do you happen to have any spare right hand drive pawls? Mine is not much good and I'd like to replace it.

Best regards

Re: Question - maximum piston to bore size

Thank you Allan, I appreciate the advice. Jack, presumably you do not have the gear to bore the block yourself. Before I ever order pistons, I have the machine shop test bore the block to be used. If it doesn't clean up at .020", they know to go to .040", and you know which pistons to order. They ar...

Re: Question - maximum piston to bore size

Thank you Dan, everything I needed to know you've summarised it all beautifully. As stated, my measurements are all from the widest point, which is around 90 degrees to the pin and not in line with the pin as some suggest, so these pistons are of no use. Always measure modern aluminum pistons 90 deg...

Re: Question - maximum piston to bore size

Wayne, I may be in Australia, but these are imperial engines and it makes sense to all to use imperial measurements in this case. Thanks for your compliment regarding this - I personally would rather use metric, like NASA, but this isn't the place for it. Ha ha. I am not a mechanic by trade, so I am...

Re: Question - maximum piston to bore size

Thanks Wayne, that is helpful. I have a set of brand new standard size 3.75 round aluminium pistons that came with my engine, and was told they should be useful. One thing of note is that these pistons are undersize: The widest measurement I'm getting is 3.734 just below the level of the pin hole - ...

Question - maximum piston to bore size

Hi all, I have gone through a number of threads from previous years, and all seem inconclusive to say the least. Simple question perhaps - what is the greatest tolerance between piston to bore with modern aluminium standard compression pistons? I see some manufacturers recommend .002 to .003 and one...

Fantastic work Kevin! Super jealous of your skills! I think I could read this thread over and over - happily! I found one of Ed's 20s side drafts in what seems very good condition, had it shipped here and then found one of his updrafts complete with manifold in similar condition. Should have my hand...

Re: Synthetic Oil

As a newbie to Model Ts I have been doing some research into oils to use in the engine I'm currently building. This discussion from 2008 came up in one of my searches - it's interesting to me because of the discussion regarding using additives to boost zinc levels. http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messag...

Re: Hobo overdrive - mismatched tire sizes question

Thank you Pat, John, Dennis for your feedback and advice. I really appreciate it.

I think I will go with the mismatch of front and back sizes as I already have new front tires, and eventually upgrade the fronts to match the rears.

best regards

Jack

Re: Hobo overdrive - mismatched tire sizes question

Hi Eric, I already have 2 brand new 450/21s on the front, as I was able to find them cheaply. The rears have ancient (probably original) 500/21s but I not going to deem them safe to drive, only useful for mock up purposes. Do you think having using the taller, wider 525/21s on the back would improve...

Hobo overdrive - mismatched tire sizes question

Ok, stupid question time yet again from me. The fellow I bought my pile of parts from suggested that I should use mismatched tyre sizes for a little overdrive: 450/21s on the front 525/21s on the back Yes, I can see I'll have to carry one of each as spares for touring. Has anyone trued such a combin...

SCAM ALERT 10/10/2021

Hi Everyone, I'd like to report a scammer who goes by the name of Ian Dyler, and possibly others. He tried to sell me a set of roadster irons using photos from the HAMB and other places. He made contact via my wanted ad on this website. Uses good English, reasonably spoken. His email address is: ian...

Re: Question regarding engine parts compatibility

Have you considered joining the NSW Model T Club? There might be someone in the club who has a 26/27 engine they could sell you. I'm in the Parramatta area. I've got a 26 Tourer and a 24 Tudor you're welcome to have look at once the lockdown eases up. Hi John, Yes, absolutely considered joining the...

Jack,

If you can find a 26-27 engine that would be a better option than the 23.

Whereabouts in Sydney are you?

John

No 1, yes.
No 2, only if you use the 26/7 wide brake drum transmission.
Thank you Kerry, good to know I can use the 23.

Question regarding engine parts compatibility

Hi all, I'm a newby in Australia so while I've had my head in deep research for 6 months I am compelled to ask what some may deem as stupid questions... I bought a 26 touring cutoff as a pile of completely disassembled parts. Probably 4-5 different cars in the body alone. The assembly of the chassis...

Re: QUESTION regarding tourer front seat back panel

Re: QUESTION regarding tourer front seat back panel

Thanks so much Dan,

the width at the bottom of the sill - across the body - is what I'm after.

Your measurement of 43" is very close to what I though it should be.

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

Re: QUESTION regarding tourer front seat back panel

You may be right John.

Cutting a section out of it to make it narrower is something I have considered, especially considering the rough condition it is in.

This is not something I would consider for a panel in good condition.

Re: QUESTION regarding tourer front seat back panel

Hi John,

I actually have the wood kit for the tourer - some of which is helpful and the rest from the rear section I'll sell.

The 2 pieces of wood in the kit that form the front seat tack rail don't meet up in the middle, which I think is telling.

Fingers crossed someone can help me!
