They're not that bad if you know what you are doing!
Most kids working in tire shops don't know what they are doing, most have never seen a clincher tire let alone have ever worked on one, find some help in the mtfca.

Re: Lasting magnetism in flywheel magnets
Well if it worked after recharging the magnets, then I'd say it wasn't done wrong some magnets are just weak and don't take a full charge, you may just have to recharge them from time to time.

Re: Welding Cast iron.
The trick to brazing cast iron is to heat it up cherry red with a torch braze your pieces together then keep the torch on and let it cool.with heat very slowly, do not let the cold ambient air hit the hot cast iron.
I have had great success doing it this way.

Re: T compression. Barrettr
I had high compression pistons with my roof 8 valve head and a re ground cam, it pumped 125 psi and it had the throttle snap of a modern sprint car. I don't want to get that drastic these days, its funny I never broke a crank or threw a rod.

Re: Fix for plywood end-grain delamination on 1911 body?
The best thing I know of is to pack some sanding dust into the cracks and holes then apply some super glue over the top, it will wick down into the sanding dust (you can use a clamp to tighten up the joint)
This repair will be stronger than the wood itself.
