Re: Bakersfield Swap meet is GO !

Howdy all, I got a private message from a very nice person concerned about their reservation for the swap meet. I thought I’d reply here in case others are having similar thoughts. Rest assured we are processing things as quickly as an all-volunteer team that has no idea they were going to have this...

Re: Bakersfield Swap meet is GO !

As a reminder, we keep the swap meet site reasonably up to date at https://bakersfieldswapmeet.org/

But if you have questions, as here on the forum and we will get you answers, plus post them on the web site for others to see

Re: Bakersfield Swap meet is GO !

Unfortunately, yes. There is no overnight camping in the spaces. That is a rule of the airfield. It was discussed with them and is a non-negotiable thing for them.

I will poke the people who control the website to post the available camping options.

Re: Bakersfield Swap meet is GO !

Good point, Andy. Nothing like a little “Trash talk” to get things started - ha ha ha! I’ll pass that one along. It’s especially important because the field is an active airport, and we are along the taxiway. We want to be good tenants, and not have our trash blowing into the airport operations. Any...

Re: Bakersfield Swap meet is GO !

So here is a crazy thought i had this weekend, what can the team do to make the 2026 Bakersfield meet better? Traditionally we argue after an event, and say/post things like “why didn't They…. (Have more entry lanes in the morning?, use a different oil in the swap meet?. Use a different water/antifr...

Re: Bakersfield Swap meet is GO !

Things are coming together nicely on planning for the meet. Team made a slight layout change to place the Ragtime Racers exhibition track off to the side. The old layout had the track between the swap spaces and the gate, which I think we all can agree was not the safest arrangement. So while the ra...

Re: Bakersfield Swap meet is GO !

Hello all, The organizing committee has made some minor changes to the layout of the meet. This was done so that people would not have the generator noise and smoke of the food trucks smack dab In the middle of the spaces. Also we are posting a map of all the spaces sold thus far to make it easier P...

Re: The 2026 BAKERSFIELD SWAP MEET is looking for new leadership.

Kim Dobbins’ wish has come true. As of Friday January 23, 2026, The Bay Area Horseless Carriage Club (BAHCC) has taken over leadership of the Bakersfield meet, and the local club is being strongly supported by the national Horseless Carriage Club (HCCA) president & board. We plan to carry on the Pro...

All, Due to time constraints the dates and location and setup for 2026 will remain the same. Re: Bakersfield- Famosa drag strip swap meet

Though I rarely post here, I want to chime in and agree with Kim the Bakersfield/Famosa swap meet was a great event that looks like it will only get better going forward. Originally we only had a single long row of prewar spaces. The facility was flooded with requests for prewar spaces, and opened m...

Re: Bermuda Carriage Bells

If you install a bell, be sure. To put lock-tight on the bolts and consider putting a “catch cage” of safety wire at a safe distance around the bell so that if it comes loose it does not rattle off to the side of the road someplace during a 30 mile drive. Don’t ask why I think this is important to t...

I had a jar of NOS air at my space in Bakersfield and Tulare, never even got a question much less an offer.
(I am not smart enough to post a photo, or I would)
So the present value of NOS air is $0.00, based on market research

Re: Radioactive spark plugs

It’s a gimmick, a remnant of “Atomic Age” marketing, “put the power of the Atom to work in your car!” Idea was polonium would help ionize air, improving spark. Check the half life of polonium, and you will see why it sure did not last long or work well. They were often (not always) a lovely Pink, if...

Re: Thanks Bill Bennett for a great Tulare swap meet

Thank You Bill Bennett! I had an absolutely wonderful time. I saw some old friends and met some new ones, some from near by and some from far away. Sadly sounds like I missed a few folks I’d hoped to meet, but I met a lot of new friends and shaked many rusty/oily hands. There were more brass lamps a...
