Re: A Ball Cap Quandary
Tis my next move. The ball cap does go in. It has a Scat crank. Did not think that the end hanging by the spring would be a possible contributor till I looked at the whole picture which was why I mentioned it. I just thought maybe the holes of the coupling ring were just a bit off. Like when a brake...

I am hoping part of my problem may come from the frame being on jack stands and the rear hanging and not sitting on the wheels on the ground.

Re: A Ball Cap Quandary
In your first paragraph you state “the hole was not at the top.” I presume you’re referring to the threaded grease cup aperture. Yes, that’s the only way it can be placed. Enter the bottom 2 bolts into the crankcase first and refrain from tightening them. Then you should have enough ‘wiggle room’ t...

A Ball Cap Quandary
So I was having great difficulty getting the bottom two bolts for the coupling ring to thread into the rear of the block. It was suggested that maybe the ball cap was clocked wrong and the hole was not at the top since the 4 holes are not all the same and that I might be able to turn it and make sur...

For what it's worth I got an response from Lubriplate and their Max Tac Red grease is non-conductive (no moly or graphite) water resistant as there is no clay base and has a thick #2 lithium 'complex' and a melting point higher than the oil operating temp.

I would think the best option would be to do both. Use the bock and side bolt but just snug it, not murder it. Maybe add a spring there and then use the spring on the upper bolt. Be close to a rubber mounted engine and flex when it needs to.

There is a reason they call it a “suicide” front end. With the dropped front mount, I suggest putting the mount above the spring. This way the U bolts are not responsible for holding up the weight of the car, which they are not designed to do. No need to delete this post as these mounts are fairly ...

So, if the spring on the front was mounted on top of the drop mount would that restrict the spring too much.

I would bet the insides of the engines contain non original parts as well.

You can even stain the grain dark then sand it down and use a lighter stain for the wood outside the grain.

Re: FS EARLY FORD COIL BOX SWITCH (18-22)
Does anyone carry just the plain switch plate? The 4730 look too pretty.

Re: Some speedster advice, thoughts
Anyone with a fender less style speedster have some pictures, advice and guidance for assembly options that would look more, correct? As well as best practices for joinery. My skill level is ok with basic or mitered butt, and dowel joints. Brass screws or t-nuts and bolts for things like removable p...

Re: Some speedster advice, thoughts
By the way, that "empty hole" bracket? It is an earlier style used in the 1910s. While not terribly valuable, they are somewhat desirable for those that want the correct piece on their 1910s car. About 1920, Ford switched to the much more common later stamped three hole version rather than the cast...

Re: Some speedster advice, thoughts
Your last photo, the empty hole was supposed to have the steering column shaft run through it, and placed above where the throttle arm should be (except that some speedsters do not use the original type throttle linkage). The purpose of that piece is to steady the throttle linkage and rod to preven...

Re: Some speedster advice, thoughts
Also want to know what these 2 rods with springs on one end are called and are there replacements available.
Additionally, what this round thing is as it was attached to nothing. Thanks- Wed Sep 27, 2023 4:32 pm

Some speedster advice, thoughts
I deleted the original stuff since you have solved that part of my puzzle. As an update: Having the Z bracket redesigned by a friend and going to use the earlier OEM style that uses the two U-bolts with the front motor mount rather than that sketchy single point that was on it. At the other end it w...

Re: Speedster plans wanted
I already have a complete 1916 speedster, but it is in the regular style so buying another is not practical. Plus, it is too new. I have a friend who makes steel for modified Model A's, 32s and later. This is an example of what he makes. Wow.jpg He is going to do the skin. But I have to do the carpe...

Re: Speedster plans wanted
Looking to build a long-nosed speedster like this one. Anyone have diagrams for the floorboards, risers etc. Also, measurements to cut firewall for shape. Prefer to use boards rather than plywood. My friend will make the hood around what I build but have no idea who made this speedster. I like the s...

A clutch question. Forgive me if this sounds stupid
But has anyone ever modified the clutch foot pedal and converted it to a shifter lever?
I don't mean for a Ruckstell shifter. I am just wondering about operating the stock ford pedal by hand like a jockey shifter.
