After painting the background color, I took my plates to a Fast Signs store where they made the numbers out of black vinyl and put them on the plates for $10 per plate. Worth a try to see if they will do it for you.

Thanks for asking , Bob. Progress is slow, breathing is very difficult with even the slightest exertion. The worst part about it is that my other medical issues are on hold due to Covid precautions at hospitals and doctors offices. Each day is a little better.

The rear arms of the engine pain will not go past the firewall brackets. Suggest you unbolt the firewall brackets and some of the body brackets and lift the body and firewall up just enough to slide the engine forward.

I personally prefer that the coils fit tight in the box. If they are loose, they may not make good contact. Some coils are so loose that shims are needed to insure good electrical contact.

In New York, there is an affidavit you can sign stating that you have owned the car for a number of years, but lost the registration. If you are going to go to your local DMV, do not tell them that the number is the engine number. Tell them the number is the VIN. If you tell them the number is the engine number, you will run into all sorts of trouble.

Dwight, Just a personal ‘trick’ whether I am doing a closed car, or an open one on bows. I only sink the tacks in halfway until I’m happy with the fit and draw...then once assured I don’t have a pucker...or need just a wee bit more tug by pulling a few tacks for the stretch needed...only then hamme...

Tim, you are correct, wire-on didn't come out until the early to mid '30's. Hidem was even used on the Model A Ford.

Long grain Cobra has been around since the early to mid 20's and was used on closed car tops. Short grain Cobra was used on open car tops. I learned this from my father who was the trimmer for Holbrook bodies from mid 20's till they folded due to the depression.

Does anyone else remember a time before the rage of hand crank coil testers, and now the electronic coil testers, where we used to adjust the coils by ear? They did not run 'perfect' , but they got along pretty darn good. Just wondering.

Jonah, I hope someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the only difference between the large and small set-up is the addition of the extra brake drum. I think you can use your set-up and just omit the extra large drum that comes with the early brakes. John

What exactly is reaming?
Jonah, the king pins are 1/2" in diameter. The holes in the bushings need to be made a few thousandths larger than the king pins to be able to rotate inside the bushings and still have clearance for oil. A ream enlarges the hole in the bushings to allow for the clearance.
