I don't think anyone has ever made the case that numbers matching (legitimately) is a deterrent. Right hand drive, in the American market might not be offset by them but likely a big plus in other markets. Still a very cool car, don't see many 26-27 with cowl lights.

I think the biggest problem you'll have is the multitude of choices.

Except for the fender bracket, the optional 1926-27 Model T and the standard Model A 1928-29(early) model A, drum style brake/tail light assemblies are basically the same.

The compression test results sound more like an engine requiring a valve job, than one that was recently finished. Lash and/or guides too tight need to be confirmed or denied.

With no electric accessories at all, I often wondered if running the coils off a 24v deep cycle marine battery is a viable option. No starter, generator or a magneto. Just don't know how many miles you could go before you have to recharge the battery.

Only way I know of to clean out water jacket rust 100% is to have the block shot tumbled. I fail to see the wisdom in sandblasting but to each his own. Probably get better results just soaking the whole thing in a tub of Evapo-rust for a month. Doesn't bother brass, aluminum or babbit.

Defining "whole rebuild" will go a long way in helping yourself find a shop.
There's a machinist near me in Coatesville, that people ship their T engines (and all kinds of pre-war I and II engines) from all over the country, to have him rebuild but I never saw him do a T transmission or a magneto.

What helps me, when posting multiple pics, is to open their storage folder, copy the ones I want and paste them to the desktop. Then I can rename by number for the proper order if need be and just delete them when the task is finished.

They are confusing. Best I could figure out was the Hayes and Ford demountable rims are different but still interchangeable with their respective fellows but the Kelsey has removable lugs and requires a different fellow. (And I wouldn't be surprised if got this completely wrong :) )

The date for the hole addition in the flip top is probably buried somewhere the Walker Jack Co. files.
It doesn't seem to serve any Ford purpose so it's doubtful they made it a requirement.

With the suspension being lowered on the 26-27, the date, more or less speaks for itself. The non-flip type is a mystery to me. They look too short for use on a 25 and bit too tall for use on a 26-27.

Most diagrams list the 26/27 tail light wire as cloth covered, plain green, 16 gauge. Same with a tracer for the brake should be ok.

6v or 12v can damage a coil if left to "buzz" for an inordinate amount of time before the engine starts. With 12v you'll have less than half that time available before damage may occur.

Odds are pretty good. As wear on the starter ring gear can testify, engines usually stop in same place. What maybe not happening consistently is enough fuel mix in the cylinder and a sufficient spark.

Doesn't matter. Just find the form and procedures (in your state) to correct the VIN error. Unless the title application provides for VIN corrections you'll probably have to obtain a title issued by your state, in your name with same error before they can correct the mistake.

Ten post coil box?
If the starter battery is known good, just disconnect the cycle battery and run a 12 gauge wire from the + post of the starter battery (or hot side of the solenoid) to the coil box. If the engine still quits the problem lies between the bat coil box terminal and the coils.

Thanks for the information, At first, all I could find online was a picture of what looked like a period advertisement for the 490 and 160 and it showed the spiral gear set up on a wire wheel. Lang's has a repro of it but it only works with wire wheels (no mention if works with adapted Models A wire...

Just my 2¢ before inflation - While it's inevitable an occasional post will be made in the wrong place, sub forums can be very helpful for "housekeeping" on both ends. That is so cool. Great minds must think alike. I called about that car a couple months ago but it was sold. Must have took two days just to wash it, looks great now! The listing and YouTube vid are still up if you want to get the "real" before pictures. Congrats and Good Luck with it!
