Re: Kingston L4 Question

If you are missing the flapper chances are you are also missing the bumper that fits in the air valve cap. If so and it is the earlier carb with larger air valve cap, you can make one out of cork. Langs sells the smaller later L4 bumper.

And Model A spider gears are the same as T. Later they did add an oil hole, but fit and function, the same. Take some time to go through the 1928 Model T parts book, you will find a few parts that carry the A part numbers.

The question might not be so much which sparkplugs but what gap. Not a whole lot of different heat ranges to work with when it comes to NPT plugs if that is what it uses. Or are they 7/8?
The other option might be to use adapters and experiment with different heat ranges and gaps.

Re: WTB. E&J 456 headlight for 1915 Centerdoor

Have you tried an ad on HCCA? You do not have to be a member to place an ad. Also, there is AACA, same thing. I have only seen one set of those. They were on a very original 1915 center door.

Re: Stromberg OF on a 1927

The choke uses a cable like the newer cars would have. (Well not quite the same but similar concept) The mixture control is not used, no need too. Stromberg's would be a set and forget type.

Re: Warford, gear oil, tips on shifting

I can't answer about the oil for an aux. trans as I don't have one, but I will say you sure's heck don't want to start the car IN GEAR unless you're prepared to have it take off on you and possibly hit something or someone!! Always start it with the hand lever "pulled back" (with Rockies it will on...

If that AC speedometer still works that is a plus. Most all of them, the pot metal casting inside goes bad and is not repairable.

Re: washer between rear wheel hub and axle shaft nut?

Every Model A made had washers installed from the factory between the nut and hub. If you are worried about hardness, use them. The torque on the axle nut is the same.

Re: vaporizer

I'm fairly sure vaporizers were used on engines that ran on kerosene (paraffin)... I have a 1919 Fordson Model F tractor, the vaporizer is in pretty average condition and doesnt really work properly, so I plan to strip it off and run a Model T carburettor and run on straight petrol (gasoline). This...

Or get a copy of Model T Ford, the car that changed the world. :) But you are darn close, it was June 26, 1924. Ford numbers show 8102 for the 26th and dropped to 2040 on the 27th.

Re: High Volume Oil Line (HVOL) question.

The inside scoop seems to be a newer version, don't think the old ones had it. Mine didn't and even without it, along with the size of tubing I used, actually think it was getting too much oil to the front. Oil coming off the flywheel is going to have a lot of centrifugal force along with volume.

For the headliner, nothing was used for backing. Just the fabric tacked to the bows.

Re: Questions about shortening a drive shaft

Thinking out loud: Guess what you could do is once the drive shaft is cut and machined, assemble and install the rearend before drilling the hole for the rivet then rotate the driveshaft mounted to transmission, letting it find its center, mark where the hole needs to be. Drill and install the rivet...

Re: To thrust or not to thrust the block?

If you are going to add thrust babbitt to the block too couple of way you could do it. Angle the face back top to bottom to lock the babbitt and/or drill anchor holes like the saddle for a mechanical lock.

Not sure if water base or not, the package does not say, it is water cleanup. I found best is to make sure it is fully dried before pouring the babbitt.

Horns would be the same, it is just the bracket that is different. If you need the correct bracket, you might add that to the post. Good chance the bracket would have been removed and you would just be buying the horn.

Re: Maximum diameter of the main bearing cavities

When the Model A crank is used, you do cut into the top bolt holes just a little. When babbitt is poured, the bolt or locating pins will block most of the hole so only a little babbitt will get in. After the mold is removed, that can be drilled out. If needed, the putty used for blocking and damming...
