Turning the 3rd cap will more than likely lock up the crank, no line boring will put the cap in the centre. Most of my caps have enough slop in the holes that it might work. Re: magneto issie
Steve at langs tells me all spools are 3/4" tall. old spools may be less as they may have been beat down to level the magnets Old spools even if beat down would not move the magnets far enough away from the coil ring to make a difference and new ones unless really messed up should be correct length.

I have aways told others it is not easy to set the mag coil. Glad to hear you are trying to deal with this. My recommendation is to: Reduce the shims at each coil mounting by .035 in. and see what you get. Then adjust accordingly. Hitting the right shims is pure luck in my opinion. I have only done...

Well yikes! Sounds like the babbitt for the thrusts may not be as equal as you think. At this point, with a fresh engine, take the rear cap off and turn it around, reinstall it and see if you can get any clearance. So I just got a 13 tooth pinion stamped with Ruckstell, 8501 13-40 20N on the front and LC.CO. ID24 along with another number that can't be read on the back. Would this have been used with the standard 40 tooth ring gear or other? With 40 tooth, looks to be about 3.07 to 1. How common was this combi...

If the rib goes pretty much the full length, looks like it could have been mounted on something like an Atlas late tailstock base and replace the tail stock casting. Not sure about Atlas 9", but the 10 and 12, the base and tailstock casting are two pieces so side to side center can be adjusted.

If you are missing the flapper chances are you are also missing the bumper that fits in the air valve cap. If so and it is the earlier carb with larger air valve cap, you can make one out of cork. Langs sells the smaller later L4 bumper.

The question might not be so much which sparkplugs but what gap. Not a whole lot of different heat ranges to work with when it comes to NPT plugs if that is what it uses. Or are they 7/8?
The other option might be to use adapters and experiment with different heat ranges and gaps.

Re: Anybody seen one of these? TAPLATE Oil Pan Cover Plate 1923-1924
If you look closely at the center dip, it looks like the drain bolt come all the way up into the dip, effectively blocking off the drain tubes.

Cool! I agree a 4 dip would be cool too. I have thought about adding drain plugs to the my 4 dip plate. Would sure save having to jack the front up to get all the old oil out!

Re: Just conversation. Why tube in lower radiator hose line?
I have read the reason was so the hose didn't collapse when running hot and got soft, shutting off the water supply. Also, look at the price of tires and rubber cased batteries, not cheap items, cost of steel was still cheaper.

Re: LED Light Bulbs and Magneto
Most LED bulbs for automotive would-be DC not AC. You would have to know if they can operate on both and if could handle the variable range of voltage. Battery would for example be 6 volts DC and supplies a more or less continues current and light output, where-as the magneto would be all over the p...

Keith, number of turns, free height and diameter of the wire should put you in the ball park. Once they are adjusted for gap, all the spring is doing is keeping the upper from moving. If you look at the newer KW coils, that spring is a lot lighter.

If you have them, can you post a photo of how the front of the engine was mounted and a shot of the other side of the engine? I have seen posts about transplanting the Chevrolet block onto the T pan and using the T hogs head, flywheel, transmission etc. Neat setup!

Try opening Facebook, then click on groups in the header. When the drop down of the groups you are a member of opens, click on See All. It showed up doing that, but not seeing it on the first drop down. Don't know what is going on.

The choke uses a cable like the newer cars would have. (Well not quite the same but similar concept) The mixture control is not used, no need too. Stromberg's would be a set and forget type.

Every Model A made had washers installed from the factory between the nut and hub. If you are worried about hardness, use them. The torque on the axle nut is the same.

Or get a copy of Model T Ford, the car that changed the world. But you are darn close, it was June 26, 1924. Ford numbers show 8102 for the 26th and dropped to 2040 on the 27th.

Re: High Volume Oil Line (HVOL) question.
The inside scoop seems to be a newer version, don't think the old ones had it. Mine didn't and even without it, along with the size of tubing I used, actually think it was getting too much oil to the front. Oil coming off the flywheel is going to have a lot of centrifugal force along with volume.

For the headliner, nothing was used for backing. Just the fabric tacked to the bows.
