Re: Fitting a Model A camshaft to a Model T

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this problem. The foot of Model A lifters is larger, 1 1/8 inch or 1 3/16, for a reason. The contact point will be off the edge of a 1" lifter. You might get by with that for at least a while, but it's not considered a good idea. What's your idea "a while"? Mine h...

Lighter oil if you run when it's cold or have a stock motor. If you keep your t in a heated garage and run during nice days it doesn't matter. Running in triple digits all day heavier oil. Synthetic will maintain it's viscosity better than conventional when it gets hot. I typically run 10-40 or 15-4...

Just wondering it the slight bit of extra oil capacity would be worth it, or detrimental to it.

What other speed stuff? Dips on the rods? You may think about using a cut T pan mounted above to eliminate windage of the crank that may starve rod bearings. Also not a bad idea to tie the 2 bottoms together allowing the trans to pull oil from the sump where it should be cooler.

Re: Touring Speedster

I have played with the idea a good bit and will be building what I consider a 10-12 tourabout. A 6 inch drop is about all you want. Beyond that if you get a flat you will be putting your motor on the ground. A touring body won't work because the lower you go the flatter you sit which makes the rear ...

The Buick completed her 800 mile shakedown trip. I have a cover gasket to make and diode cutout before I start cosmetics. The speedster is running good with a couple tweaks needed.

I just found this thread and boy are there a lot of depressing comments. If it hadn't worked it still would have gained you experience which is more valuable than what you were working with! When I was 16 I had my speedster that had a fan blade go into the honeycomb overland radiator on the car. For...

Wrap a wet towel around the muffler, if the muffler is the source you will know right away. I don't need to tell you to remove the towel before it gets hot right?

The Buick lives, motor camp here we come! The top may be missing, dents, dings lots of future work but it moved under its own power today. Looks a lot like an early Liberty Head.., They were used on boats for the most part. Thats why there is a center return on the water outlet. Chad, If you have directly run two wires from -ve and +ve of the battery to the h/lamp socket and the LED doesn't light then there can only be two possible causes: (1) The LED is polarity-sensitive and the supply voltage is incorrectly polarised (2) There is an issue with the h/lamp socket (most li...

Be ready for someone to tell you to pull the head and check to see if you have 2 piece valves as well as tearing apart the rear end to check for bronze or babbitt washers. Absolutely correct, I did that before the first post which is why I found it so puzzling. Trying that and finding no light I assumed the bulbs were bad. You can imagine my bewilderment when I put an incandescent and then they would light.

Perhaps it is the flow of electricity rather than the potential difference? This doesn't really make sense to me but trying the bulbs directly to a battery there is nothing. DC doesn't pulse like AC so perhaps there isn't enough resistance in the LED to complete the circuit. As a result an incandesc...

In a word "drivability" not knowing where you are, what you have, or how you drive it's hard to answer further. A lighter car with taller 3:1 instead of 3.63 will allow you to drop the rpms down and drive the same speed as before. Of course you may not have the power when you get to a hill. At least...
