Use a 6 point socket so it will not slip on the nut and a 2' handle. Then if it still will not budge, take a hammer and hit the handle like an impound. It should either loosen the nut or break off the bolt. If that doesn't work, Take a long pipe and slip over the handle. Then you can get the bolt ou...

Re: What is this at the base of a wood utility pole?

It might be a core plug. When a pole is getting older the utility company will drill a small hole to check for rot at the center of the pole to decide whether the pole needs to be replaced. Then they put a plug in the hole to keep water and bugs out.

Re: No Free Starts. Should I Be Concerned?

For Brian, It is possible that when you pushed the car, the slight drag on the flywheel when in neutral, caused the engine to turn just a small amount which brought everything to the right time for the spark to ignite in one of the cylinders.

Re: Rocky Mountain/ Hand Brake question?

No!!!! It should have the regular hand brake and adjusted so that the parking brake comes on first and the second notch locks both the parking brake and the Rocky Mountain brake. The foot pedal should have either a tab welded to it or a replacement pedal made for the Rocky Mountain brake. With the f...

Re: Strong Site Feed Oiler

I suppose it would be useful for going up steep hills to get oil to the front of the engine. However, you would also need something to get the fuel to the front too. The 26-27 solved that problem by raising the gas tank, but still needed auxiliary oiler to get oil to the front.

Re: No Free Starts. Should I Be Concerned?

The engine usually stops in one of two spots opposite each other where the compression is the lowest. It depends therefore on a few things whether it will give you a free stop. Not likely if you turn off the fuel first and burn off all the gas in the carburetor. Or if it is parked in gear with the b...

The first picture is of when I purchased my 26 Touring. The last is after I got it restored. I did all the work myself except for the machine work and pouring bearings. I worked on it for about 10 years. Sorry! I posted in the wrong order and can't figure out how to fix it!

Do you have one shown installed? I never saw nor heard of one like that. I can't think of anything other than the crankcase that might need to be oiled unless it is for an overhead valve conversion.

Perspective! The kids are quite a distance from the car. I can look out the window and see trees which look taller than the mountains in the background. The trees are less than 100' tall but the mountains are at least 1,000' Things closer always look bigger.

Not medicine for a broken axle! A lot of elbow grease and money and good jacks needed to fix this problem and if on a tour need a winch to get it on a trailer, maybe even a crane for the back of the car.

Two points I will make. The wheels are not correct for the era of the car, and they show to a viewer. The flaps are hidden inside the tires and will not be seen, so use the rubber flaps. I personally would be more concerned with what is seen by the person looking at the car, than what is hidden insi...

If you clean out with a drill bit, be sure not to turn it in a drill but use your hand. It is very important not to damage the threads or drill through the block into the water jacket.

Re: Why are my head bolts different lengths?

Two important things. 1. Bolts should all be the same height when screwed all the down in the block. 2. The threads should not end before the bolt bottoms out. If this is so, try the bolts in the head and block without the gasket. The heads should go down far enough to touch the head when installed ...

Another thing which could cause drag would be bent connecting rod. If it is crooked in the direction that the wrist pin would be lower on one side than the other, the skirt of the piston would drag in the cylinder. Also more noticeable if you have aluminum pistons because they expand at a greater ra...

If you have a good radiator, the water pump is not necessary. I agree that pushing it to 40 mph is straining a bit. But it should go that fast, maybe not constantly. Several things we need to know to be able to diagnose the problem. 1. You don't state what year the car is. This would make a difference due to the location of the gas tank. 2. You don't say whether or not the coolant level changed. If it dropped below the center of the top tank on the radiator, it ...
