Re: How to use Marquette tool

The S hook is a good idea. I have a temporary tube in one of my rear tires, I will give it a try when I put the “real” tube back in.

Re: How to use Marquette tool

I recently had a chance to try out my Marquette tire tool. The biggest issue I had was holding the arms together while manipulating the tire. This was a problem when both removing and installing the tire. I found an old C-clamp that worked, thinking about better methods for future use. I first attem...

Re: Pouring Tar in coils!!

Ouch! I wear my welding gloves when I pour coils, this is a good reminder for me. I got my tar from a local family owned roofing company. I met with the 75 year old owner and explained what I was doing. He examined and smelled(!) my sample and determined that it was #3 roofing steep, as noted above....

Re: 1914 touring height

Thanks Keith for the removable trim idea. The header is 84" so the cars should fit without the trim. We have been considering replacing two trim boards with a piece of aluminum facia trim. The actual door is tall enough so it should not be noticeable from the street. Projects for next summer, flurri...

Re: 1914 touring height

I have two 1914 touring cars with stock non-demountable wheels and tires. The height on each car is 83 to 83 1/2 inches. My garage door opening height is 82 inches from concrete to the door weatherstrip molding, the cars will NOT fit through the door with the top up. Good luck

I also use a modern float sanded down to original thickness as recommended by others on the forum The material is soft and easy to work with.

Re: Holley G Float Level Tool?

Adding to what Rich said about modern floats:
Stan Howe posted that modern floats should be cut down to the size of original cork ones. I found the new float easy to shape using fine sandpaper on a flat surface. My car runs good with the puddle about 3/32, made a tool like pictured.

Re: Painting Carb

I used TopFlite fuel resistant model airplane paint from a local hobby shop. It is the only thing I have found that has survived the toxic Minnesota gas formula. My Model A carb has lasted 8 years, still solid. The Rustoleum on the engine pan underneath turned to goop long ago.

Re: Holley G idle

There are several posts on this site with good information on Holley G carbs. One post has a drawing of the "tool" used to measure the float level. You set the float, fill the bowl and then use the tool to check the depth of the fuel in the cup. Then, remove the bowl and repeat about a dozen times. ...

Re: Holley G float level

There is a discussion of the Holley G float level in the Model T Service Manual (sorry don't have page number). It includes information about a stick with a 1/16" nub (high) on one end, and 1/8" on the other end (low). You rest it on the edge of the cup (as shown above) and use it to measure the gas...

Re: Which is easier to repair: A or T?

For me the A is "easier" but I enjoy learning and working on the T! I grew up fixing 50s-70s era cars, the A is the same technology. Points, coil, carburetor, single disc clutch, drum brakes, balloon tires, etc. I have rebuilt several with standard hand tools. I have only owned a Model T for 3 years...
