I'm working on my 1919 centerdoor restoration project. Those are part of an accessory front cross member brace. As the the others have said, something is shorted out. Check the timer wires for bare spots, make sure nothing is touching the terminals, and the timer for being shorted. Don't try to start the engine until you figure out what's wrong and fix it or you may end up with a broken starter or arm.

Spindle bushing thrust cutter question
Does anyone know where I can get a face cutter like the one used with the spindle bushing thrust cutting tool sold by the vendors? I'm looking for one to build a set up for cleaning up the thrust surfaces on the axle yoke.

Re: Bad Commutator?
That timer is shot. Roller timers are excellent running timers, but they require frequent oiling and cleaning. My suggestion would be to get one of the recent reproduction new day timers and put a neoprene seal on the cam. The new day will still require occasional cleaning, but does not require oili...

Re: Nut & Bolt speeder
The body bolts I believe are 11/16 or 3/4 hex. With the splash aprons and rear leaf spring being in the way I doubt this would be very useful on the body bolts even if it were the correct size.

Re: High compression heads - 26 Tudor
The 3 to 1 gears need to go. A Tudor is far too heavy for such a high ratio. You will only cause unnecessary strain on the engine and transmission and have to go to low on every hill. A car with stock gearing is capable of going faster than a T as ford built it should be driven anyway. My 26 coupe w...

Re: Oh darn!
I would replace the hogshead with a 25 and earlier one before driving the car. When we got my 26 coupe it had this exact issue. I adjusted the band so the pedal wouldn't bottom out and yet the brake was so poor it was barely capable of slowing the car down as we rolled it off the trailer. Also, the ...

Centerdoor weight
I recently brought home a 1919 centerdoor. I have never been able to find a weight for the centerdoor sedans. Does anybody here know?

Re: MAGNETO OR NOT
The magneto must be fixed or removed before you drive the car more. At this point it's just a matter of time before it flies apart and destroys your engine and transmission

Re: What holds the das to the cowl
You will at least need to open the top windshield glass, slide the lower one up and remove the screws that attach the windshield stanchions to the dash. It may be necessary to remove the windshield completely to get the dash out.

Re: Reproduction gas tank sediment bowl thoughts
I've used them before too. Very nicely made. You may want to put just a tiny amount of fuel valve lubricant in there so the valve operates smoothly.

Re: Rear axle seal problem
I use the permatex gasket maker that is specially formulated for gear oil. It comes in a green tube. I have never had a single issue with axle leaks since I started using it. I have about 7 thousand miles on my 26 coupe since I installed my ruckstell using the Special permatex and the inner seals ar...

What did you use to glue your inner seals in places? Some sealants/ gasket makers are not compatible with gear oils.

Re: 13T Drivetrain Problem - Babbitt Thrust Washers?
Really the only thing that would cause the symptoms you describe is a failure somewhere in the rear axle. Regardless of what failed you're going to have to pull out the rear axle assembly and fix whatever is wrong in there.

WTB: Original axle shaft
I'm looking for a nice original Ford axle shaft for model T passenger cars. Must have good bearing diameters, threads, tapers and key ways. I need at least one axle, but will buy more to keep as spares.
