I've used them for years. I did some work for Ralph years ago and had as many as a dozen of his heads. Only gasket failures I've ever had were corrected by a properly decked block

I have silver soldered many bergs necks and run motor meters afterwards with no problems. Sometimes the chrome gets a little damaged. I rather have a serviceable neck.

I've welded one for a guy. He drives next to nothing and did not want to spend any money. It's still in the car. I would not tour with it but a parade would be fine.

That alternator only needs power on one terminal spade. Usually there is an F mark indicating field. I would crank the engine up. Put power on one terminal and check for output. If none then go to the other. That alternator has no built in regulator. If you need a regulator use a 60s Chrysler stand ...

As the owner and driver of 2 TTs with ruckstells, 5-1 gears, and 3 speed transmissions I will say the underdrive ratio of the truck ruckstells with a 5-1 in it is about 8-1. The 8-1 gearing is much better when climbing a mountain of a hill in a TT than the almost 10-1 your typical underdrive 3 speed...

I've run a pump and alternator on a pre-generator car before. Ran it on one belt as well all on the driver side of the engine.

I drop the fresh engine in. Drive the car around the barn and then onto a trailer bound for a national tour. I've done it many times with no regrets. Change the oil while on tour. Retorque the head as needed.

Had a made in Argentina ujoint years ago that was made square and would not go in the drive plate. Ground the corners down and it slipped right In. It failed years later.

The 1954/55 ford 239 Y block and mercury 254 share very few interchangeable parts with the later Y blocks. The 239 does use the same piston rings as the Lincoln flathead 337!

I don't remember which terminal. You can put voltage to either one. One of them will make the alternator produce output. That alternator does not have a built in regulator. Something like a WVE 1V1067 works well. It was standard equipment on a bunch of Chryslers in the late 60s.

I have taken as much as .200 off a high head. I've also blown the combustion chamber out of a head. It's all just play time and what the operator is comfortable with.

I've put many a seat in and have never lapped any but it takes experience to know what to look for. .060 width is good for gas motors. You could put a larger valve in to deal with the worn seat but it requires more seat grinding of various angles to get the seat width and diameter right. You also do...

I use a separate voltage regulator that was used on the 60s Chrysler. One wire from the ignition switch and another to the field terminal. They are dirt simple. An electronics minded individual can modify the solid state ones internally by changing zener diodes to obtain any cutout voltage.

I've had my 21 center door across the scale with tools under the back seat and three grown men inside. We hit 2900 and that was a certified scale at a tractor pull. A little over 2k empty is accurate

Center door seat hinges use a 5/16 pin retained with a cotter pin to act as the pivot point. The part that mounts to the floor has 2 ears and the seatpart has 1.

I go to pate every year because I am a member of one of the clubs putting it on. There isn't much T stuff and the Prewar section has not caught on yet. I remember the old Pate fondly. Sometimes muddy, sometimes dusty but always an adventure.

I have a geared alternator on a TT truck. I have to Rev it up to engage it. Once engaged it will keep the lights bright at a low idle. Way more output than a generator at idle. I putt putt through neighborhoods looking at Christmas lights every year with bright lights on 6 volt.

Have you put a straight edge across the block to see if it is flat. You may have a low spot on the deck which will blow a gasket every time.

I built the trailer in the original post. It tows fine. It has a modern axle with electric brakes. I have three sets of tires/wheels in different styles depending on which tow vehicle I use.

I read somewhere that a T is designed to power out, fuel flow stop, and oil flow stop on a 25% grade. Sounds like your T is performing as well as a stock car will. 4-1 gears would get you that last 50 feet.

I run hardened seats and valves from a 90s olds I believe. Springs are VS468. Have never had a problem with the valve train. Blown head gaskets are another story.

It has straps to raise the rear windows so it is not a 23. I'm going with 20-21 due to the steel covered window pillars as well as the T handled door handles.

I have probably 40-50 tubes in storage. I vacuum them down and double bag them in plastic grocery sacks. They are then stored in a metal cabinet. Haven't lost a tube to dry rot yet using this method.
