Re: repairing/restoring clincher

I cannot remember if it was in VF Tinkering Tips or the Tips books but there was an article on sharp rims. The gentleman ground off the sharp edge all the way around. He then used a heavy gage steel wire and tacked it down to startto hold it. He made a simple heavy wire tool that went overboth edges...

Re: Diagnosis of charging problem

If you were running a belt drive generator without a belt and the relay was stuck closed the generator would motor if it was workable. It cannot on a model t asit is gear driven and cannot turn the engine over. Take your generator off and onnect a 6 volt battery with the positive terminal to the gen...

The second to last photo appears to be on the Needles Hiway in South Dakotas Black Hills. It is still in use today. I am sure many of you have driven thru it. As the crow flies, I grew up about 7 miles from it.

Re: Engine block cleaning solution

Will using sodium bisolfate and water solution and a battery charger negative terminal connected to the block and the positive lead hooked to a sacrificial piece of iron and the 2 items separated from each other harm the babbit? I know it will remove rust and testing it on an old connecting rod with...

Riveted triple gears

Digging thru a parts bin and came across riveted triple gears. Not sure what year they were last used by Ford, but are they used by people running or restoring those years of transmissions or are they conversation pieces and paperweights?

Does it have a game fitting? Some older tractors had the splined pto shaft and a square drive shaft to an implement.

Magneto coils

I know the approximate length of the flat copper used in the magneto coils is approximately 11 feet. Was there any specific reason other than available room that it was this length? The insulating tape that is used in rewinding them comes from 3M. What width is used? If the tape is wider is it trimm...

What gauge is the stainless steel tie wire used on engine and transmission bolts? I know it must be dead soft for twisting and bending but i am wondering on the gauge or diameter.

So you are new to model t's. It is Tim to gt you hands dirty and see what you can learn. Everyone had to start without any experience and learn. Re: You guys ready for this?

The first photo reminds me of what my dad told me about my grandad. My grandad traded 300 bushel of corn for a model t touring car. He went around a corner too fast Ani upset and in the process ruined the top. This was in South Central Nebraska and every where they went that winter they had to wrap ...

The tablet keeps putting in words it wants. The word is supposed to be scythe and it keeps putting in switches. Modern technology is not always as smart as they think it is.

Re: unknown (to me) wrench

That wrench was used on the old hand switches to tighten or remove the blade. I have 2 like this and one double ended one with a 9/ 16 box on the other end. My dad was very proud to have these as he said a lot of people had the scythe not not a lot had the wrench to go with them. I believe the small...

The 820 gates belt, is the 820 a millimeter measurement for length? If it is a serpentine belt shows up when I type Gates 820 black belt into Google. Unless you are going for show originality and this length would fit, you can turn these inside out and run them. Just a suggestion and your local Napa...

Re: Adjusting buzzer coils

I am in the process of building a coil tester. It will not tell you if you have a double spark or some of the things an Ecct tester will but you can find out if you have a usable coil and will not empty your billfold. Several years ago in Tinkering Tips one was pictured using a 6 volt battery. Ted A...

Pickup fenders

I believe the original body on my T was a roadster. With the pickup box on it the fenders do not come close to the box. Not sure of the year of the box and I will have to sand on the frame to read the serial #. It is licensed as a 26 but that was because of the motor I had when I applied for a title...
