Yes, definitely a Roof head with a Fronty cover. Good running head with a little added compression. Yes you can remove the output shaft, mount the pinion and set up the ring/pinion mesh. The shaft will come out from the output end. Here is what they look like removed from the transmission:

Re: WTB - rod machining fixture
I have several SV rod machines that I could be convinced to sell. They are in storage and need some TLC, but....... I use a Van Norman, so these have been in the project pile for many years. if you are looking for a plug and play machine these are not for you, but with a little effort they would be ...

I have found over the years that most dimensions on Ford parts are almost without exception, fractional inch increments, including 64ths. This seems to be the case with Model A parts as well.

Re: Transmission clutch
Actually the most important difference is the distance between the thrust surface and the set screw location. Trent Boggess posted the differences here on the forum many years ago. This change was, as I recall to account for the change from the flanged braked drum bushing to the three steel thrust w...

Re: A Loose Crankshaft Front Pulley
Does your pulley look like this? This pin is positioned correctly to engage the ratchet properly. Yes, the roll pins can be difficult to install, but reshaping them to reduce the diameter when the crankshaft hole is not worn helps quite a lot. They can be squashed in a vise along the length to do th...

Re: A Loose Crankshaft Front Pulley
Braze up the ID and rebore to whatever size you need, or locate a socket with an ID slightly smaller than the outside of the pulley boss OD. Heat the pully center red, and force the socket over the boss which will shrink the bore . Then rebore.

From a reliable source: We will have a swap meet at a new location at Famoso Raceway. Move in and swap on Friday, May 3rd and swap on Saturday and possibly Sunday. Bill Bennett is organizing the effort. There will also be Swap-O-Rama in conjunction with the pre-war swap meet. I have hear it called t...

Re: Warford, gear oil, tips on shifting
We have, like Ed, run 600W in our Warford and Chicago transmissions in several different cars over the years. Last year, I decided to try a synthetic gear oil in the Chicago transmission. The product we ended up with was Heavy Shockproof made by Redline. The trans runs noticeably cooler and quieter ...

Re: Warford 2 speed cast iron
That input shaft is really worn. If you are going to put that trans back in use, consider pulling the shaft out and welding up the worn areas and remachine it. Its not ideal, but if you preheat the shaft before welding its will be better that what you have now. As above, check the trans female squar...

Re: Sanity Check - Triple Gear Pins
I'm pretty sure that Herm's procedure shows the triple gear in his lathe where he is facing the bushing thrust surface and then adding a chamfer to the bore- not boring the bushing for fit. He does this in a separate step using a fixture and a reamer. Boring the bushings to size is best practice as ...

Looks like normal rusted out core plugs. Not sure there has been any welding done??? Order some from one of the parts vendors. Drive a punch into them, pry them out. Use a sharp edged tool to clean out the counterbore in the block. Clean everything well- small rotary wire brush works well. Coat the ...

The normal pressure angle of T timing gears is 14½ degrees. The formula for the change in normal backlash ( 90 degrees to the teeth, not in the plane of rotation) is 2 X tan PA X profile or center dist change. For a .001 change in the center distance ( or a .001 change in the radius of the gear) the...

Here is the modern equivalent of the Delco 8 cyl Nash distributor converted to dual spark. These DuCoil distributors were made for early V-8 ('60- '70s) engines and used two coils- one to fire each bank of cylinders. They use a 4 lobe point cam and a separate set of points for each coil as expected....

I just use a nylon hoist sling and make a basket loop with it- its adjustable and works just fine. Around the bottom of the pan and pass one end thru the loop and ready to lift. Of course it saves me a trip to my tool box to grab my spark plug with the hoist loop in it. Either way works for me- alum...

Re: Backlash timing gears
My house standard spec for backlash is .004/.006". If your front cam bearing is in good condition, and you checked backlash with valve spring pressure applied to the cam you will have no issues. If you have a generator, make sure to check the gen gear backlash as well and shift the generator bracket...
