Re: free starts
I am not at all saying that a free start will result in a 2-piece crankshaft. I was just responding to the question of how a free start might put increased strain on the crank. Having just spent $$$ on a rebuilt engine due to a 2-piece, I have been sensitive to all theories. Based on physics, this o...

Re: free starts
The stress related to a free start is the fact that movement is being initiated abruptly through a connecting rod to the crankshaft and flywheel which is at DEAD REST. Using a crank or starter mechanically begins to rotate the crankshaft and flywheel prior to 'explosive' force being exerted through ...

Re: Ever run out of Gas??????
Burger, I had the same experience. Would not start after winter hibernation. Wife suggested check gas. I had put the T away for the season with 6-7 gallons. Couldn't be empty! It was BONE dry. Turning off the sediment bulb valve wouldn't have helped. The valve was the leak! Sealed the valve with fue...

Re: IMPORTANT - Forums are back
It's back for me after a little fenagageling, but it is amazing to me that in this day and age so much of this 'stuff' is still soooo buggy. 20 years ago maybe, but in 2019? This is not at all a criticism of anyone, just a comment on how complicated and still in its formative stages this technology ...

Re: No output from generator
I have been communicating with John and feel I have narrowed the problem down to the field coils circuit loop. John is such a resource to our hobby and so generous with his time.
THANK YOU JOHN!

Re: No output from generator
Mark, I'm assuming shorting out the cut out should attempt to motor the generator. Obviously it won't turn over the engine. I was just asking if anyone knew what the current draw should be. 15 amps sounds low to me, but maybe not. I'm sure John Regan has the answers to my questions. I did clean the ...

No output from generator
Trying to diagnose no gen. out put. With engine off, when I short out conventional cut out (not voltage reg.) with an ammeter, it draws approx. 15 amps between terminals. This should flash the gen. if that was the problem. What should the current draw be in a working gen? With engine running at mode...
