Re: Roof/Rajo interchangeability
Definitely a Roof 2 port, same as I have pictured above. The 1/8” pipe plugs above the intake ports and the 3 freeze plugs in the top are dead giveaways. That is an interesting variation of the exhaust manifold as it has the Roof name cast in. The head that I have pictured above was acquired after m...

Re: Welded rods with an A crank
Welded rods are a quite common reality of A crank motors in the pre SCAT crank world. The A rods are 7.500” center distance and require a special piston if not shortened. The special A rod pistons are notorious for pumping oil, and the T tops allow standard piston choices. I’ve made up several sets ...

Richard has it right! Very few accessory T “pumps” are actually pumps. They are circulators, that simply promote water circulation thru the intentionally oversized cooling system. The impeller will no doubt cause some restriction in the system, but may not be enough to matter

Re: Volumetric Efficiency of Model T engine (L head) ?
one last question any opinion on a Winfield S-BB on this engine. Have one on the shelf, but Winfield manifolds are hard to come by, although I do have an stromberg to winfield adapter. Thanks again For reference, I calculate a BB at about 185 cfm using the “standard” 3” h2o depression. This was the...

Cleanin up the shop - electric water pump
I know… multiple levels of Model T sacrilege😉 I ran this electric water pump for years on my speedster. The hot flathead needed a pump but the belt driven pumps wouldn’t work with my alternator/oil pump combination. Removed recently as I have jumbled things up a bit and now run a belt driven pump. I...

Re: FS Winfield 5v Carburetor (SOLD)
Thanks for throwing my hat in the ring Ed. I do not inventory any parts for the H/V series carbs. But, I have made several parts before and always catalog the designs as I go. The fuel strainer bowl has yet to make the list, but have made throttle barrels and float seats before. Happy to share these...

Re: Locking ring wheel help
That rim spreader is for “split” rims, yours are “lock ring” rims. Two very different methods of securing “straight sided” tires prior to the “drop center” era. Let the air out and use a few C clamps to compress the tire away from the lock ring. The tire bead shape retains the lock ring, so once the...

It doesn’t matter what we tell those radicalized elitists about how we use our cars. They will undoubtedly perceive that we maliciously waste potential homeless housing real estate to store these minimally used luxury possessions for the sole purpose of deviously burning toxic substances and endange...

Re: Fabric covered wooden body speedster plans
In WWII the control surfaces of most fighters and bombers were fabric covered. I saw this recently and got to wondering… does the fabric take a bullet hole better than an aluminum skin…? Or were they just rationing materials? My dads speedster has a few stretched spots from taking road debris and g...

Re: Fabric covered wooden body speedster plans
The Museum of speed in Lincoln, NE has one of these speedsters that was built back in the day. Wicked cool! They were restoring the chassis but not sure of their intentions with the body. If you were to submit a request for information while letting them know you were looking to build one, I’m sure ...

Re: B Crankshaft in a T clearance
I tapped the 2 rear holes in the pan spacer and trimmed a small piece out of the pan on my last motor. A bit of silicone seals the spacer to the pan, and the inspection plate doesn’t know the difference. Lots of clearance now!

Re: WHY DO T CRANKS BREAK BEHIND #1 ROD?
Wimpy crank, wimpy rods, and high reciprocating mass paired with no harmonic flywheel means that the front end of the crank is allowed to change speed as the load changes throughout each revolution. The further the load is from the flywheel, the more deflection and stress the crank will encounter. W...

Re: Gallivan Head Gasket
Pete is absolutely correct. However, I suspect that your concern is that the combustion chamber is an odd shape and so requiring a special gasket, as is the case with a Roof 16 Model C. I would suspect that the Gallivan has a round combustion chamber. There is a lot more room for those giant valves ...

Re: Looking for Winfield Carburetor information
Looks to be in relatively good shape. A couple things I notice are that the flange should have threads (5/16-18 I think) and the fuel inlet has the tube soldered in. Not problems that would stop me from trying to run it tho. The bigger issue with these barrel valve carbs is air leakage at idle. Leak...
