Re: A hill too steep

A advantage of backing UP a steep hill is that the engine will be oiled better when it’s working hard. Obviously this only works when on back country roads. I grew up where we had a creek crossing that was a challenge!

Re: WOSP Starter Wiring

I guess I’m surprised that the steering column isn’t interfering with the transmission pedals if you have it that low. Also why keep the 6 volt. The stock T generator will easily charge a 12 volt battery (just cut the amps back)
Just some thoughts.

Unfortunately mine is in progress so I can’t do a picture in place.

Re: Too many accessories, not enough room!

I have made a “polyvee” pulley for the fan and with one for the water pump I think you can drive it all in one “loop”!!

Re: Steering wheel nut thread spec

Thank you. I was guessing that it was 16 tpi. I can solve it now. Probably just rethread it with the lathe (or make a new one)

Steering wheel nut thread spec

Got fooled!! I thought the steering wheel nut was 5/8”unf. So I bought a 5/8” fine acorn nut locally. It does NOT fit. The thread pitch is different (not 18 tpi). Does anyone know what the thread is? Trying to push my project along!

Re: Too many accessories, not enough room!

A further thought is that the water pump requires very little energy so I think that one belt could drive it all.

Re: Straight axle hubs

I suppose if someone is motivated enough I have the casting patterns that I used to make wire wheel hubs. The patterns could be modified and new correct castings could be made. A person would need some good pictures and dimensions (which I don’t have)

I suppose a electric drive water pump could be a solution?

Re: Transmission Bands

Kevlar is fine (probably excellent) for the brake. They have destroyed plenty of reverse drums though. My preference would be Kevlar on the brake and the other version on the brake and low.

Re: Rebuilt Carb or Rebuild Carb

I’m wondering if you have the mixture set to lean. I’ve seen people doing this. I find that i definitely adjust the carb on my 27 (NH) in the middle of rich and lean. Just a thought.

Re: Straight axle hubs

Boring the taper out would be pretty easy if the rest of the hub is correct. Making straight axles should be easy, as doing the taper is the hardest part of making axles. I have made axles over the years including the wide track version!

Re: 23 tranny on a 26 block?

At one time there was a solution available to ease the concerns about the 4 dip pan flex and those people who have installed it have had great success. Unfortunately it is no longer available. I’m referring to the “floating transmission shaft”. It removed the strain load from the crankshaft. But hey...

Re: Help needed in chasing 30 year old Ghosts

The rear cam lobes have a LOT of duration!! Unfortunately from the pictures I can’t see whether the front lobes are identical. Back in the’70’s I built a T engine with a similar cam grind and it was a total DOG at lower speeds. Reved it was fine. The engine is a high compression flathead. Ultimately...

Re: Universal tire wobbel

Before I tried “Trueing” the tire by some machining method I would personally try remounting the tire by rotating it on the rim maybe a third of the rotation. Of course marking the rim before! If the problem has moved, then you are on the correct path. If not then it is a rim/wheel problem. I just l...

Re: Camshaft

I got into this because I found an A cam with a full race grind at a swap meet. I was building a T engine with an A crank (drilled and counterweighted). I installed the front of a T cam onto the A cam. Slotted the back to drive a VW oil pump. I built my own Vega distributor drive using a pair of hel...
