Compression ratio is a mathematical equation and not a measured pressure. Simples form, swept volume + chamber volume divided by chamber volume. There are other factors such as gasket volume and pistobpn dome/dish. Compression ratio is not measured by cylinder pressure.

Kevin, Gene and Dan are in the right direction. If it’s sparking then the points and coil are working. If it goes into the distributor it’s gotta come out. I have seen really poor cap alignment on aftermarket distributors.

Re: Need help re broken piece
Returning this to functionality would be prohibitively expensive. I’d braze it up, cleanup the repair, paint it and call it a display. There are other ways to fit the bushings. Like Dan pointed out it would be really difficult to repair it to the accuracy it needs.

A blasted surface isn’t rough enough tear up a brake lining. If anything it would help the lining to conform to the drum faster for better braking.

The auction closed on the cars and they went for pretty much what they were worth although I thought the 13 and 15 touring cars went a little low. The Mercury went for 6550. Jeer Sherman had a body is worse condition at Bakersfield years ago. Since this included a set of wire wheels it was probably ...

If I didn’t have a Mercury I would be bidding on this one. It’s rough but the firewall and dashboard look very good, which is unusual. He had been asking 10k, I suspect it should go for 5-6k. That and another 20 grand and you’d have a nice car.

Good question Art, I started doing this when multi spark ignitions came out in the 80’s. In simplest terms the ruckstell essentially gives you a 3 speed transmission. It’s like downshifting into second to get up the hill. I seldom use low ruckstell and the low pedal except for parades.

I mounted 30x3 1/2 Blockley tires and tubes on buffalo wheels. They took about 2.5-3.0 oz of weight to balance. Yes the stem was on the heavy side. This was still less than I used on universals on the same wheels and quite a bit less than wards riversides.

Re: Cleaning NH Carburetor
There are brass plugs at the end of each passage. Remove the plugs and soak the carb in carb cleaner. I use an ultrasonic cleaner. Use a wire through the passages to ensure there’s nothing in there. You can plug the passages back up with soft brass like brazing rod. Vapor blasting will make it prett...

Re: How to avoid a broken transmission drum
I believe that John is referring to an early video where a pry bar is used to break the hogs head loose. While I’m sure many have used this approach, when you place yourself in public as an authority on something you must be sure to demonstrate proper practices. A lot of people use YouTube in lieu o...

There is a wide range of cam grinds. Unless you are an engineery kinda guy or have a lot of engine experience your best bet is to get real world feedback. FYI, Steve Is one of the guys I’d listen to.

Judging by the color this band has been slipping a lot. It may be the notch but you have to give some thought to driving habits.

Every tour is a good tour Scott. I’d love to go on these local tours all over the country, but California isn’t really centrally located. Thanks for sharing your story.

Re: Gotta see BIG movie coming out this October - lots of Model T's
Since the movie is over 3 hours long I suspect I’ll wait for it to come out on video. How come the don’t have intermissions anymore? These movies keep getting longer and longer and a guy can only wait so long.

Which tour? The speedster info usually comes out in the new year. You could contact them through their website for the rules.

Re: SCVMTFC 53rd Annual Speedster Endurance Run & Lowland Tour - Save the Date
It is unfortunate timing Ed. Virginia City as a background for a hill climb would be great, but doubtful I could attend both. F.A.S.T. is technically a Model A thing so scheduling is probably not going to take MTFCA events into consideration. I’ve pretty much committed to having the Mercury ready fo...

Going to be a busy June in California. Auburn Swap Meet on the 2nd, SCVMTFC Endurance Run on the 9th then the San Diego National Tour on the 16th. F.A.S.T is also reporting a potential Hill Climb in Virginia City on the 14th/15th. Hmm, can you get from Virginia City to San Diego in a day?

You lock one shackle to help the rocking back and forth to a minimum. You can also use a simple panhard bar.

To the original poster. Lock N Stitch will make an excellent repair if, as previously mentioned, your block has sufficient integrity to take it. I made a front bearing socket out of a socket because you can’t use the ford wrench with buffalo hubs. I just milled a close enough form in the ratchet side since there’s no real torque on the bearing.

It’s likely the quality of the bulbs. They should have built in regulation so that voltage variance isn’t an issue. There just too much junk on the market.
