Yes, AMES actually built and sold their own car for a while. They did not build very many, and it was basically an assembled car, which meant it was made up of a chassis from A.O. Smith Co, Axles by Timpken, Engines may have been Lycoming, Continental, or Waukesha Engine Co. and transmissions by Brown-Lipe or other manufacturers.

The S7 is probably the pattern number, so if they had flaws, they would know which pattern was causing the problems. Patterns have only a limited life, based on how hard they are used.
I have some REO running board brackets that actually show the wood grain from the pattern, as they were too cheap or too careless to bother with touching up...

Jason, Did you lube the bolt threads and bolt shoulder when you installed the head. Doing so can over tension the bolt and then the heat expansion of the aluminum head adds even more bolt tension.

I suspect a helicoil or equivalent will be needed, but try other ideas first.

Bryant is right. The grease stiffener (soap) can react chemically with other types of stiffened grease. With the exception of wheel bearings, I use lithium grease for lubing everything. Lithium grease is very common and sold about everywhere.

Another thing that you may want to consider is the fact that other makes of cars might use that same distributor cap.
While other applications for that cap may be on some rare or orphan brands of cars, it would still open up a slightly larger market for reproduction caps.

Try draining the sediment bowl and check for rust or water. Do the same for the carburetor bowl. The fuel should flow freely when you open the valve at the bottom of the carburetor. Note, drain enough to be sure you are getting fuel from the tank and not just the gas in the bowl. Particles can be filtered out using a coffee filter in your funnel,...

I would say, leave it as is. Unless you can PERFECTLY match it, so it is impossible to detect. It is only original once, and like a T with the original paint, it will always be restored or repainted if you change it.

I have an original cast iron unit with the distributor. When I bought it the front plate had no bearing or bushing where the bottom of the distributor main shaft would be supported. Is this correct?

I also have one of the aluminum reproductions and it has a roller bearing at that spot.

Look at the flywheel ring gear! In my opinion the missing insulation is the nat sitting on the trunk of the elephant in the room. The much bigger problem, are the teeth worn so much on the flywheel. And what all that metal in the oil has done to the babbitt. ???

One more time around!

I bought the Lazzars rebuild set. I've started disassembly. The ram comes out as a unit. I took it to the auto paint store to get the paint color matched.

A point you might want to think about. Most of these old units, the shaft and bushings/body are worn. With wear, you change your cylinder firing as the shaft wobbles and the air gap between the cap and rotor changes. A car putting around at 35 or less, might not be much of an issue, but ideally you want that gap to stay pretty close to the same...

Thank you George, this is to go on my fathers bitsa he built in the late 50's as a kid. You can deflect the fronts with a bit of knee. It is a glorious collection of parts. Probably has round fellows, but not being picky. If a nice set can be found, I'll be happy.

NO these are the correct 12-32 OR 7/32-32.
Ford Model T catalog shows 7/32-32.
See attached info below.
Note that the 2 sizes are only 2 thousandths different and do directly interchange.

The adjustment shouldn’t change the pitch of the tones, that’s determined by the length of the tubes. I personally think it was made this way to circumvent patents. Very cool!!!
