Well, it depends on the type of gasoline you use and the weather.

If you use a heaver gasoline with kerosene blend then the Hot Air Pipe is necessary to help vapourize the fuel.

If you follow the literature after 1917, the hot air pipe is a necessity for winter and cool weather. For summer or hot weather it can be removed.

Also in cold weather...

My neighbor didn't need those panels on his house roof anymore, after water leaked in around the attachment areas, rotted the roof and fell into the attic.

I checked the gas tank and it is very clean, It does have the front top Iron. About the only thing missing on this car is the 2 rear top bows.

I have a 4 cylinder chevrolet cam turned down to a t block. It has a lift of approx .270. It fits into a t block and all lobes line up. $75.00 plus freight.

One more easy thing to check that can cause this problem is the bolt below the timer that goes through the front of the oil pan into the bottom of the engine block could be pointed up instead of down and will hit the terminals on the lower side of the timer every time you advance your timing and short out that cylinder. I have a 27 T that had this...

A variation on the welding suggestion would be to weld a small piece of scrap metal across the cup and whack it out from the back with a drift and BFH if any persuasion is needed.

I get it now. Makes sense. I normally run a diode conversion cutout.
I have been running a heavy duty period aftermarket mechanical cutout with no problems with a kill switch & idiot light.
I will keep in mind the grounding out possible damage @ a hi rpm use.

You can make the split pin holes line up with the castelations by sanding the back face of the nut on a flat surface. Do it a little at a time. When the required tension is reached and the holes line up, fit your pins. I have never seen the dippers used as locking devices either, although it is common practice on other vehicles.

The spring loaded mount looks like the one that was on my Jumbo Giant.

I don't know how long a stock driveline would survive 70 MPH, but a 5 bearing engine with a counterweighted crank making about 45 HP could push most Ts to 70 or beyond with no durability issues.

I finally got a picture

Really appreciate all the responses and all of the information. Great tips and instructions on how to do this myself. No ill will against the guy who mounted them. He's a hobbyist as well. I'm going to use the ideas from this post to break down the tires and see if I can straighten the rims.

When backing up or going forward in close quarters or tight places place the handbrake in neutral ( straight up position when everything is adjusted right ).
The car car will go in reverse or forward in that position. I do it that way to keep from getting my size 13 boots from getting in the way instead of trying the tippy toe method!!

My lazy way is to use about 120 psi from a small nozzle while introducing solvent or gasoline into the spray. This cleans old gunk out to my low standards 😁 but if the drain area is bent up, I’d follow Bob’s advice.
