Excellent suggestions. Funny thing, maybe I’m going deaf but my transmission was quiet right up to the failure. It was an expensive education for me but I’ve added checking the gears to the list of routine maintenance. I’m also going to take a much closer look at the flywheel and other “remains” to see if there are any more clues to “why” or “how”?

Original or repro ... how is the oil captured in the post to be delivered to the front bearing?

Well mines an e timer, I’ve had it so long I forgot which one it was.

In defense of my Holley G, it was rebuilt by Russ Potter in 2019. I know he replaced the Venturi. It has performed very well for me, giving satisfactory performance in whatever I asked it to do. I think I will be able to detect any significant performance differences between the two.

I put this product on my exhaust manifold because I replaced the stock hood that had a heat shield with a carbon fiber one. The hood was getting hot and it concerned me. Whether it was needed or not doesn't matter. It did the job! I can drive for an hour and able to touch the wrapping material. Theoretically it is also supposed to help extract the...

Information on the 490 is scarce. 3.7 X 4 bore/stroke, overhead valve, HP variously given as from 20 to 27 HP. No figures for torque, compression, peak speeds.

I believe that the numbers for specs of a Ford T and Chevy 490 are:

Model t - 177 cu/in - 20 hp
Chevy 490 - 171 cu/in - 26 hp

You are missing the rest of the bracket assembly.

That particular set-up has an additional bracket that screws into the door sill. Then, you attach the horn to the permanent bracket on the sill with a single bolt and nut or wing nut.

It's designed that way to prevent theft. It allows you to easily detach the horn and take it with you, if so...

A coil will operate without a capacitor at all for a short time, then the points will look like the photos above.

The last time I checked there didn't seem to be any points anyplace good enough for those coils.

For no more than you need, it is much cheaper to just send them to Ron or Brent, rather than gather all the tools an materials you need...

Are Optima batteries that good you ask? Yes, they pretty much are. And, as you've been told, besides the momentary load of the starter, there is very little else to drain the battery, especially when your lights are off and your magneto works. You could literally go for weeks...
