I have both and on paper the A wins hands down.....it's faster, holds the road better, bigger etc. etc. That said I find much more joy in driving my Model T. For me I think it's the simplicity, history, and the fun to drive 2 speed. Do not get me wrong I love my A as well but if I could only keep one the T would be the keeper.

I decided that I wanted to give LED lights a try. I purchased 5-30 volts non-polarized bulbs. When they arrived I installed the first bulb and it light up nicely, but when I installed both neither worked. I tried again with one LED and one incandescent and it worked. One incandescent alone also works...

LEDs are polarity specific, as they have a positive and a negative contact. Most modern light bulbs have a diode bridge included in the bulb so the connected polarity will not affect the LED operation. Meaning, the bulb is NOT polarity specific even though the LED IS.

A few months ago this engine came to me with the message: Can you make it run again??

For sure, Canadian 1926 Touring models, electric starter and generator were optional or (could be ordered with out) I found an unmolested Canadian 1926 engine 60 years ago and there was a blank out plate over the starter and generator. Also there were cast brackets to hold kerosene lamps attached to the windshield stanchions for non electric cars....

After this order is made, it's an open question whether suppliers will pick up the connection to the manufacturer. Any road it will be some time before they are available again.

The box says it’s for 15-17 model t. I’m assuming it’s a regulator for mag lights since it comes with two new bulbs. They are 6-8 volt. The instructions are so bug eaten and rotten they just crumble. I have no idea where it would mount, it comes with one bolt. Anyone ever seen them before?

They describe it as a current regulator . That suggests a choke , or inductor, which can be used to regulate mag output at higher engine speeds. I don't know why it would matter how it was mounted, unless it was oil-filled, which it may very well be. Another possibility is that it is a capacitor, which could accomplish a similar function. I'm with Scot ...I've been in 3 or 4 parades and no more for me. I do not have an aux transmission. Stop and go===stop and go...PLUS our old vehicles were always towards the rear...just in front of the emergency vehicles. Having sirens blasting in your ears for an hour (or close to it) is NOT fun.

Was the magneto coil wrap cotton or linen? Has anyone tried wrapping their windings with 100% lite weight cotton twill?
Comes in 1/2 too.

One thing I would point out is that with the cotton twill, you can bias the tape one way or the other and it will remain perfectly flat against the project, when pulled tight. If you are using any other tape which will kink or buckle when tugged sideways or other direction, you'd want to avoid that.

I've never used fiberglass tape in this fashion...

My problem is with a 1920 engine.

The two different sized crankshaft pulleys are listed for 1920, one at the end and one at the beginning of years they fit.

I used the larger size pulley that should make the fan turn slightly faster!!

There are two types I know of-
•1923-mid 24 with rib going outside of apron
•1924-25 and Ford Replacement Fender with rib under apron.

How difficult should it be to roll up the door glass? I have installed new safety glass in the drivers side door, and it is very, very hard to roll up. The glass is very tight in the channel.

I am in the process of installing the glass in the passenger side door. I have placed the glass into the channels but have not installed the raising...

We are in the planning stages of putting together a model T tour in Eastern Europe, with the antique automobile and model T club of Hungary and the caretakers of the Jozsef Galamb museum in September of 2024.

Over the last few months I’ve read number of posts on different builds, restorations, and trips. With current roads and their maintained speed only a dream when the Model T was being built, how well do wheel and axle bearings hold up?

Also kingpins and spindles? Are speedsters stressing these parts when pushing to limits?

I thought I would splurge on the Timing Indicator with LED kit that the vendors supply. It is supposed to make it easy to find the 15 degrees ATDC.

I bought this rim at a swap meet for my Model T shortly after getting into the hobby. I thought it was a T headlight rim until noticing differences with a T rim. This one has a 9-1/8 diameter rather than the 9 diameter on a T headlight rim. There are also 4 steel pads on the outside of the rim, equally spaced. Does anyone know what this is used on?

I passed it around at the T club meeting last night. No guesses as to what its use was. If it had been modified in the past, the rim showed no tool markings on the inside of the rim where it might have been welded and ground down. I’m just curious enough to see what’s under the paint. Mine came with the pins. They are necessary to align the cam gear with the cam. It can go on either way because the crank is exactly the same position at 180 degrees.

Can anyone shed some light on whether to use the original one I have or switch over to a solid state one.
A description of the original one could result in generator failure and the solid state ones sound like they
are more reliable. I found them on Snyders web site and the cost is a lot less that replacing a generator
if the relay gets stuck....

Well it so happens I pulled the canvas off the speedster project and started scroungeing up parts stuffed in nooks and cranys in the shop and i had bought 1 of those diodes! and had a cut out in the bag with it and was apparently looking at doing this during the last work on the project.

This post is only for dye hard T guys. I've been searching for years for original 9/16 upholstery nails, and have not been successful. They only used these on the end of the binding on early cars possibly until they started using hidem welt. I was using 7/16 until recently. The rest of them are 3/8 .
I sort of scored recently by finding some 1/2...

Here is a great, European or British all brass lamp. This could be a very large side lamp or a headlamp. It is all brass and is in nice condition with a good beveled lens. Very high quality. It measures about 16 tall and 7 3/8 rim and 6 3/4 in depth. A great lamp that would date from approximately 1900-1905.

Here is a nice, original, brass, large size Solar Model 128-C side lamp from the 1908-1912 era. This large lamp is about 11 tall and 7 1/4 diameter rim. The large round lens has a crack but the side lamp and red jewel are good. It has the Solar tag on the front as well as the Solar stamp on the burner. It is an impressive and early side lamp. I have new parts for a Ruckstell than I am building. I've had the parts since last September and my wife said it's time to put it together.

I plan to fire up the oscilloscope and the capacitor meter to check the coils. The points have just been cleaned with a file. I prefer filing rather than sandpapering the points. I found that old Briggs and Startton engines won't start very well with sanded points. Filed ones seem to work well. I realize that these Ignition systems are different...

I recently bought a 1923 T. The wiring is terrible. I have looked at the catalog and have seen the wiring kits for the headlight. I don't see if there is a cover or grommet or rubber piece that goes from the wiring to the headlight. Is there a separate piece? Also, does the kit come with one side or do I need to order two to do both lights? Thanks...

I have been working on the wheel rebuild and I got another front hub to replace one of the ones I had that had a spun bearing race. While bead blasting the new one and getting the races out, I noticed that the rough casting was about 1/10th of an inch off center. This made it tough to get to the back side of the race on one side and the rough...

Hi All,

I have just stripped down the axle on my 1916 tourer. I notice that the half shafts with the half shaft gears attached rock up and down against the spider gears. I'm assuming this shouldn't happen - any idea of possible cause?

This topic was recently discussed on the forum and the majority opinion was the current replacement fiber discs are too thin, using two (or more) thin spacers is not recommended, and, it's best to custom fit a single brass spacer to take up the end-to-end clearance. Personally, I would never use 'a steel washer or a ball bearing' for this purpose....

Les's method is the least expensive. Some old tractors had a similar arrangement. You could even omit the rheostat and just add a switch, which would allow turning the generator completely off.

I would like to add a panel under the seat of my 22 runabout pickup. This car appears to have been rebuilt by someone made some things up as the went along. The body framing under the seat looks odd to me. I want to make a pan we to go under the seat to give some support to the seat springs but I want to know what the framing should look like...

Has anyone seem one of these or have them in their collections?

It looks useful, but did it actually work? I would think NOT to use this when the engine is running as the little ball would be a blur to see I guess.

But could be a bonus when turning over slowly as that would show both TDC and spark firing in one tool.

There have been several fancy doodads to set timing over the past 100 years. Currently Lang's sells one that even lights up (for $87). They are all less accurate than going by the pin position, which has the advantage of costing the perfect price — nothing.

How much difference is there between the steering columns from 1919 to 1924? Will they interchange?

What would be causing excessive play in the steering of my 1920 Roadster?
It's rarely caused by just one thing. More often it's a combination of several small problems that add up to one big one (worn bushings, gears, pitman arm ball, etc.). Look everywhere in the steering system.
