Hello,

I have a '26 touring where the steering wheel has a good two-inches of play. All connections from the pitman down are good. I suspect the play is in the steering box.

Assuming my suspicions are correct, can the problem be solved by replacing the pins, gears, and pinion?

Also, can this work be accomplished with the steering column...

Unscrew the cover, take out the three planet gears, turn them over and reinstall them on their pins.

Worked for me, reduced the play quite a bit!

The cotton linings look a lot like cotton web you can buy by the roll off Amazon, can I use cotton web that's the right width and length of course? (I need to just replace my low band)

Craig makes a valid point. Changing bands is a labour intensive and time consuming task for even the more experienced T owner. To that end, to push the process further down the line, I don't bother with cotton linings at all, preferring to use longer lasting Kevlar linings. Others have different opinions about using Kevlar linings.

I have acquired a CenterDoor with A/C Brakes that I am totally unfamiliar with.
Does it look like they are mounted correctly?

They have a adjuster nut to set the band adjustment. They ( new reproduction) have a eyelet that lends better to using rods. When I set mine up
in the beginning I used a clevis & made the cables out of 60's Chevy truck parking brake cables as they have a 5/16 fine threaded end on them
giving a more flexible adjustment options other than...

Magneto has been running fine for the first and last 1,000 miles in my 24 coupe.

For the first time ever the engine is dying when switching to mag.

I started the car on battery 3 times, switched to mag and the engine died.

How thick is that piece? could be a piece of clutch plate or clutch lug shoe but I think they are different thicknesses. I have had clutch plates

I don't like the location of the original starter button, so I am wiring a solenoid in my wife's 6v speedster (negative ground) and have found two vastly different wiring diagrams:

Solenoids are not all the same! if it has one small terminal then it is most likely internally grounded. If it has two small terminals one marked s
& one not marked then the unmarked one is a ground. If it has two small terminals one marked s & one marked i the i goes to the coil to to

I finally took George Akins advice and pressured my fuel tank using the exhaust on my 1924 Depot Hack. For years I have had trouble climbing hills unless my tank was completely topped off.

To the neigh sayers, there is no risk of explosion. Any oxygen in the tank is displaced by carbon monoxide. There is an aticle in the MTFCA Carburetor book...

I have a set of '26 roadster sill plates that are semi decent except for a couple cracks. Is zinc repairable?

I use Muggyweld to repair Winfield cracks. Great stuff. Low temp, like soldering. As for you sill plates, it just depends on the repair.

The a-oogha sound is still associated with Model Ts by many, as is the rumble seat. As far as I know, no T was ever factory equipped with either. The electric Klaxon was probably not compatible with pre-1919 Ts with magneto only AC power.

The journey:

Last fall I joined this forum.

Shortly after I found a local model T club and joined, along with my 12 year old son.

I was immediately welcomed and impressed by the people as well as the car. (the club has work days regularly at least 1 -2 per month)

I wasn't completely prepared to get a car... but I was inspired to begin...

I’m sending back the odometer/speedometer.

Once it is turned on, I then have to start it tracking mileage. I dont want to have to do that, the app does the same thing.

Odometer and/or trip meter on start up. Is that too much to ask?

Auto start would be awesome, start moving and it turns on. I had that feature on older bike computers. Not sure...

picture number one illustrates that the two studs hoilding the cover are alined with the control knob. This is the way all seem to be. picture number two is the timer I bought last month. the two studs holding the cover are off set from the knob by 90 degrees. Has anyone seen or have a two piece timer that is like number two?

I recommend filling oil filter completely, disconnect oil lines , outputs on pump, and fill with an oil can and turn engine by starter. Works everytime.

Hi all, I hoping for some history on the aftermarket gas tank suppliers.

Not available? Who has the patterns for inlet and outlet castings? Was the business offered for sale?

I plan on making one for my 09 . The sheet metal forming doesn't look that difficult. I'd prefer not to rob my original tank parts for the project.

Your 1909 round tank with riveted brackets likely hard to replicate. Don't know if this builder of the later round tanks and oval tanks could help.

The inlet and outlet maybe could be used as the later types used, but may not be exact as the original. You could call the builder and ask, he may help if you supply the original tank as pattern....

I just noticed that my two T's have different connections at the draglink/pitman arm connection.
Which is correct? Bolts and safety wire, or nut and lock washer?

As posted, use bolts, castle nuts and cotter nut to bolt end. The bolts pass into the cap but will thread into the drag link. The nut and cotter keeps bolts in place.

Thanks to all who responded to my previous post. My 1916 with a 1921 engine is positive ground. To change it to negative ground I plan to:
1) reverse the battery cables
2) polarize the generator by briefly touching B+ to the field terminal

In a stock T ignition system, running on mag, depending on the node, the coil is being fired with either a positive OR negative charge. AC current is in play. Running on Battery, it depends on how the coil is wired internally. I am told ford & kw coils are wired differently.
If you really cared, you could match your power & coil for optimum spark...

i have made another run of Quick Bolts for fitting the mainbearings in Models A and T Ford ( 4 sets ) ... these are made from mild steel bolt stock as the originals ... the quick bolt reduces the time and labor in fitting the mains by reducing the time needed to remove and tighten the original bolts ...set includes the 6 bolts , nuts and forked...

Hotrod front spring perches. The consensus is these are used to put a Model A front axle under a T front spring and frame. They appear to be forgings and NOS as the threads are covered in wax. This gasket has holes for both of the center water passage openings.

Does the blockage of one opening have any significant effect?

i have for sale several single connecting rods ... these are re-babbitted and checked for alignment ... i can machine cut X oil grooves for an extra $15 each ... currently have Standard diameter , -.010 ,and -.020 ... price is $80 each NOT x grooved ...$95 each with machine cut X oil groove and drilled for dipper ... postage is included in lower...
