Try draining the sediment bowl and check for rust or water. Do the same for the carburetor bowl. The fuel should flow freely when you open the valve at the bottom of the carburetor. Tom VanMeeteren, specializes in early ignition parts. I was able to get parts for Atwater Kent system. He posts here so look for a post and contact him. I won't give his contact info without his permission, but a search of the foram is easy to bring him up. He is real helpfull and is knowledeable about all makes from 1900 on.

First thing to do is to clean out the bolt hole. Use a screwdriver and loosen any rust or crud that may be causing your bolt to bottom out. Then use a tap and to see if you can run it down a little more. You can strip out head bolts if the holes have packed in crud.
Over tightening has stripped more than a few bolt holes and bolts also.

I would say, leave it as is. Unless you can PERFECTLY match it, so it is impossible to detect. It is only original once, and like a T with the original paint, it will always be restored or repainted if you change it.

Thanks for passing on Eric Hylen's pictures. It is great to see those early cars. I think about you guys driving the early ones when I drive my '07 Buick. Not too many cars feel and drive like them.
The open air and the low RPMs along with a bit of gas, oil and exhaust in the air is like nothing else. :D

I have an original cast iron unit with the distributor. When I bought it the front plate had no bearing or bushing where the bottom of the distributor main shaft would be supported. Is this correct?

I also have one of the aluminum reproductions and it has a roller bearing at that spot.

Look at the flywheel ring gear! In my opinion the missing insulation is the nat sitting on the trunk of the elephant in the room. The much bigger problem, are the teeth worn so much on the flywheel. And what all that metal in the oil has done to the babbitt. ???

I have only worked on my own engines for the last 8 years, so not much terribly broad experience for quite some time. Stipe's 280 responded very well to standard 7 1/2 degree advance in my '23, but lots of research tells me that this combo would benefit from dialing back some, thus my recommendation to contact Dan for a different gear with less...

I bought the Lazzars rebuild set. I've started disassembly. The ram comes out as a unit. I took it to the auto paint store to get the paint color matched.

A point you might want to think about. Most of these old units, the shaft and bushings/body are worn. With wear, you change your cylinder firing as the shaft wobbles and the air gap between the cap and rotor changes. A car putting around at 35 or less, might not be much of an issue, but ideally you want that gap to stay pretty close to the same...

Thank you George, this is to go on my fathers bitsa he built in the late 50's as a kid. You can deflect the fronts with a bit of knee. It is a glorious collection of parts. Probably has round fellows, but not being picky. If a nice set can be found, I'll be happy.

NO these are the correct 12-32 OR 7/32-32.
Ford Model T catalog shows 7/32-32.
See attached info below.
Note that the 2 sizes are only 2 thousandths different and do directly interchange.

The adjustment shouldn’t change the pitch of the tones, that’s determined by the length of the tubes. I personally think it was made this way to circumvent patents. Very cool!!!
