I replaced bushings and kingpins in the front end. Im new at this but watched you tube videos and think i did well. after that I wanted to take my spokes from black to natural. this was really hard.
Stripping paint off my wooden spokes and refinishing them. On one wheel, I took the hub apart but left the hub side with the bolts going...

You've only got 6 hub bolts, so how do you hold 12 spokes and keep them in position? Answer, you put the bolts between the spokes, then 6 bolts WILL hold 12 spokes firmly in position to the hub!

Here, this may help you understand or decide to re-spoke your steel felloe wheels, but you'll have to build a Spoke Press to do it. ;)...

More a curiosity question. I’m going to strip and refinish naturally finished spokes. Spokes and wheels are solid. It seems it would be easier than sanding , scraping, etc. But I don’t want to do something that might permanently damage the wood.

While this was NOT on hardwood spokes, I have a bit of experience with steam/pressure washing wood. Basically, wood has 2 kinds of fibers. Strong load bearing fibers, and soft sap wood. I found the high pressure washing would do little to NO damage to the strong load bearing fibers, BUT, would damage the soft sap wood fibers.

Hello. I am in need on one 30x3 (24 ) all white Firestone Non-Skid tire for my '12 Touring car. Would prefer new. I have one new front tire and both rears (23 ) so far but no more fronts coming until February I am told.
I am in Northcentral Ohio.

I checked with Chaffin’s, who normally carry the bands separately, and they are not available at the moment. Sorry I did not make it clear. I am using custom brackets that support the Rocky Mountain brakes and drop the axle. So different brackets are not an issue for me. I just need the right bands.

Late 12 7 rivet pan. According to Mark Herdmans research.

It has/had the reinforcement plates on the ears. Only 1 ear remaining. I’m including 2 ears from a 3 rivet pan that a person could modify. This is a very solid pan… no rust out. $500 plus shipping. I can ship via Fastenal or will put in a large box with garbage bag/spray foam around it....

I am experiencing skipping when I am under load in high gear. Starting, idling,and low gear are fine. When I go into high and accelerate or climb even a small incline I get repeated skipping. I have adjusted spark advance and GAV. Ultimately, when I remove the coil box cover and drive under the same circumstances it goes away completely.

You are correct, it is not.
The pinion bearing is .562 dia rollers. Axle bearing is .500 dia rollers.

Just saw a FB ad for half a dozen 1986 NOS tires for $1500. I wouldn't take them if they were free. I was delighted by my NOS white Firestones. Coming out of the original wrappers they were beautiful. Country roads ate them up PDQ. When I see guys brag about running on tires that are decades old, I bet they don't drive hundreds of miles at a time....

Just had to rebuild my transmission due to a cracked drum.
Got it back in car and was having a time getting pedals adjusted. Found my problem I think. Pedal has gotten loose on the shaft. The pedal is from an older rebuild before I got the car. Now I have to fix it. I don’t want to pull engine again.

I try not to use replacement pins for this reason. If at all possible I use tapper pins & leave extra so if the pin comes loose later it can be driven
deeper to tighten it. You will need the proper tapered reamer to make the hole. I buy the longer tapered pins & cut to length. Welding should

While ash or maple or oak wood tack strip is strong, it is hard to form, have to use steam to get the curve shape, tried that on my '26 and took a long time to get the wood pieces in place. Same with the '24 runabout.

My new AC brakes were apparently dragging a bit on the passenger side and after a long drive i discovered that it had heated the hub enough that the seal failed and i had bearing and axle grease all inside the hub. It migrated outside enough that the AC brake lining is also contaminated. I tried cleaning it up carefully with brake cleaner and also...

I know of no MFG. that recommends any procedure for cleaning oil contaminated linings. I have cleaned lightly contaminated woven linings
with lots of chlorinated brake clean, soak, dry, soak, dry again until they look new. If they don't look like new discard & replace. It comes down

I have some pieces of Mr Roadster brass glass setting channel

Dimensions of the pieces-
Large piece with radius on ends: 38” x 9 1/2”
Straight piece: 37 3/4”
2 short pieces: 11 1/2”

The straight piece and the two short pieces are mitered on the ends and form 90 degree angles. When assembled it makes a large frame… I have no idea what it was...

Every time while driving my grease cap on the fan hub untwists and falls off. No matter how tight I twist it on it is missing after a tour. How can I keep it on ?

If the fan has a grease cap, it screws onto the back end of the shaft. The shaft is hollow, so that the grease cap will force grease into the void between the two bushes. Oil is for the later aluminium pulleys with the brass plug.

SOLD!

This is a used set of 4 Universal T Driver tires and 4 rubber stem tubes. (2) 30x3 and (2) 30x3.5

These tires are about 15 years old. They have about 5/32” to 6/32” of tread remaining. I removed them due to some sidewall cracking. They would be good to use as rollers or for a car that just goes to the ice cream stand a few times a year....

In response to a USB/Bluetooth question. You can show a picture of this and explain that Tony Stark's (Iron Man) first prototype for an arc reactor . It was not nuclear based but used a smaller version of a Model T Magneto to act as a magnetic shield to repel the shrapnel in his body from entering his vital organs and blood stream. :lol:

Just tried a solution to clean parts ...
Hot Water & Dawn x5 Powerwash dish soap.
Spray parts with Dawn, let set for a minute then brush in the hot water. 2nd application might be needed, but ECO friendly & easy to dispose of.
Worked well on 40yrs of grease & crud.

This article mentioned a new vehicle being built in Boston in 1924 called a Mayfair using Model T Ford parts. As per usual it didn't last too long (went bust in 1925 according to Clymer, see attached par of list)
