Can't figure out why this is bored into the engine side of the this firewall....what's it for? It is only 5/8's deep and it does intersect the mixture control rod that passes through that slant drilled hole. Is there some sort of vibration damper that fits inside to keep the rod from turning on it's own whilst the car is traveling? You can see it...

I think I have seen vacuum gauges on Montana 500 dashes in the past. If not has anyone run a vacuum gauge on there model T and know what the vacuum is under acceleration? I know this changes with altitude just looking for ball park figure from hard acceleration to WOT.

I painted the engine & exhaust with Rustoleum 500 degree engine paint waited about a week and started the 1916 T and it burnt the paint off the manifold exhaust and tail pipe. Is that normal or do I have a problem?

In the Canadian province of British Columbia in 1922 they switched from driving on the left to driving on the right.
Curiously While I have seen/found RHD hogsheads in both aluminum and cast iron, I have not seen one with a starter.
Perhaps ford switched to selling LHD cars there in 1919 anyway!

I will soon be installing new felt window channels, regulator and window glass in my 1927 coupe. I plan to reuse the bottom window channel. I have never done this before, so need guidance. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Since I have been unable to find a low cowl firewall in steel, is there somewhere I might find a pattern or template to make one out of plywood?

I'm currently restoring a late 1911 touring car that has a November 1911 engine serial number, which matches the title. The original firewall still has what is likely the original patent plate shown in the picture below. This number is roughly 2000 higher than the engine serial number. Does anyone know what this number signifies?

I have just replaced one of the rear axle seals on my 1916 Tourer, and have refitted the wheel. However, despite having it on and off a few times and rechecking the fitment of the keyway, there is about an 1/8 difference as opposed to the other side, and I can see the edge of the brake shoes on the side I have removed.

I have a 1921 studebaker and it uses the spring steel rings between the block and the manifolds. I found that some of mine were missing and I wonder if there is a general source that makes these for model T and other cars. Does anyone know where I might find some?

So I jacked it up and put stands under the rear axle, reset the air fuel mixture, choke, crank it over twice, turn on the ignition and it fired right up.

Does the linkage go under or over the lower radiator hose? When I got mine it was routed under. Currently the rod connection at the timer is rubbing against the belt when fully advanced and has been for awhile before I bought it. I’m assuming that I need to bend the rod to lengthen it. I have the tool to check the timing.

My wife recently inherited a 1926 TT. I, as the make-believe mechanic, am finding this simple machine to be a bit more complex than I thought. The car starts and runs on the battery just fine. However, when switching to magneto it shuts off. I have not yet created the light bulb tester, so don't know about power from the mag. I do have video of it...

I need to replace the bushing at the front of the oil pan that the starting crank goes through. What is the best and easiest way to remove the old bushing? The bushing is probably frozen into the pan.

I have a friend who just received his new Hartford tubes with rubber valve stems. He needs to know if they will fit through the wood felloe of his wheels? I know the ones made in this country ten or more years ago would not. That's really a shame too, because when Firestone and Monkey Ward were making tubes, they would fit.
