I'll try and get a Mag readout next time he plans to start the car as from what your saying that would clarify the mag output. Its a good starter off the crank and runs smooth on Battery so I doubt its a fuel issue.
Maybe a coils clean up and check is also on the cards.

Anybody seen the shim in Ford parts books? I’ve seen the mag field coil / block 1 piece spacer on one of the engines I tore down and it’s a factory spacer I think. Seems like the vendors would sell them as I remember but not the crank/ transmission one.

Yes that 1 piece coil shim is quite common. Steel with 4 holes. The vendors dont sell them....

A flat top piston will dramatically lower the compression in a stock bore engine (3.750”). Would probably have to overbore to 4.000” just to correct the compression back to stock (3.75:1). Any mainstream high compression head would be a good addition to this motor, and would doubtfully raise the compression above 5:1. I would not be concerned...

Be careful. Caps for Bosch front plate distributors are not the same as caps for clip-on style distributors.
thanks for the heads up! I’ve been doing research till I am blue in the face. Is this cap one for a clip on? I noticed a different part number and manufacturers logo.

Mike Coats, are you any closer to discovering the source of the extra electricity.

The spark voltage from the coil is the only voltage that is high enough to provide you a shock.

That high secondary voltage comes out the bottom button of the coil and it is a very short trip from there to either one of your coil primary voltage sources.

The interior is excellent and any blemishes on the exterior are so minor that they wouldn’t be worth fixing. It also has those mechanical upgrades that make it a good T for touring....

Good catch on the Horn... But I'm not really sure but that it could be correct? Mine has a different horn but a later build. I think I'd be happy driving it after a good cleaning and the seats and top don't look too awful bad from what we can tell in the pictures. Just thinking a good wash job and an engine/coil tune up with some air in the tires...

Another thing that you may want to consider is the fact that other makes of cars might use that same distributor cap.
While other applications for that cap may be on some rare or orphan brands of cars, it would still open up a slightly larger market for reproduction caps.

Based on my experience, I would dismiss ethanol gas as a likely problem unless it's very old. I use it, and haven't had any Model T problems that I attribute to it. Of course, I drive enough to use it up before it can go bad .

The S7 is probably the pattern number, so if they had flaws, they would know which pattern was causing the problems. Patterns have only a limited life, based on how hard they are used.

Bryant is right. The grease stiffener (soap) can react chemically with other types of stiffened grease. With the exception of wheel bearings, I use lithium grease for lubing everything. Lithium grease is very common and sold about everywhere.

I would say, leave it as is. Unless you can PERFECTLY match it, so it is impossible to detect. It is only original once, and like a T with the original paint, it will always be restored or repainted if you change it.

I have an original cast iron unit with the distributor. When I bought it the front plate had no bearing or bushing where the bottom of the distributor main shaft would be supported. Is this correct?

I also have one of the aluminum reproductions and it has a roller bearing at that spot.

Look at the flywheel ring gear! In my opinion the missing insulation is the nat sitting on the trunk of the elephant in the room. The much bigger problem, are the teeth worn so much on the flywheel. And what all that metal in the oil has done to the babbitt. ???

One more time around!

I bought the Lazzars rebuild set. I've started disassembly. The ram comes out as a unit. I took it to the auto paint store to get the paint color matched.
