I have a friend with a 13 (no starter or generator) with Mag issues.
History -Restored in Virginia in the 80's and stored in a controlled garage with very little use. Imported to NZ 2015 and only done a few miles since.
Last year it wouldn't run (even idle) on Mag at all. We recharged the Mag in the car and now it runs but not a smooth as when on...

1. Measure out voltage with an AC analog voltmeter at the terminal on hogs head to chassis ground. A light bulb parallel to the meter will help. It should be at least 6 volts at idle and increasing as you rev the engine. Can get up to 20 volts approximately at higher RPM. If this...

Yesterday 10 early Fords left New London and traveled 125 miles to New Brighton. I am happy to report all 10 crossed the finish line. 2 -04 model A, 1-model N, 1-model R, 2-model S runabout, and 4-model S roadsters.

I recently obtained an original copy of the Hyatt Roller bearing catalog covering the period from 1897 - 1916.

In it, Model T Ford axle bearings are listed as part number 16080 for the RH side of the car and 16079 for the LH side.

I wonder why Ford specified different part numbers for the two sides, perhaps the rollers are wound in different...

Here is a pair of NOS Early Pinion Bearing Races. These are stamped Hyatt see pictures. I took these out of a Ford Dealer in Tn that closed in 1928. When was last time you saw one of these? Extra to me, undertaker will not let me be buried with them.

I dont know too much about Model T coils but from what I understand when checking a coil and you find the primary or secondary windings are damaged that the coil is not rebuildable.
I noticed that Snyders and Langs and maybe others sell the secondary and primary windings. Does this mean I can use these to rebuild those non-rebuildable coils ?...

Another thing that you may want to consider is the fact that other makes of cars might use that same distributor cap.
While other applications for that cap may be on some rare or orphan brands of cars, it would still open up a slightly larger market for reproduction caps.

I have noticed an odd situation with rear spring for my 1927 coupe. The end of second leaf on the right side is not in contact with the bottom leaf. The attached photo show the situation.

While not shown in the photos, there is a slight wear pattern on top of the bottom spring below the end of the second leaf.

Is this problem??

I made my own spreader with a piece of 1/2 pipe & some 1/2 all-thread & a couple nuts and flat washer - I ground down one end of the pipe to catch one of the top housing bolts then swedged a 1/2 connector to a point to catch the spring eye - piece of cake !

My 27 coupe has run poorly for a number of years. I had the fuel tank cleaned and sealed by a shop in Omaha, before running it for the first time. ( shop is no longer in business).
It ran great for about two years but started to lose power.
I replaced the pistons, put in new valves, with no or little difference.
At the moment, it will not start....

Based on my experience, I would dismiss ethanol gas as a likely problem unless it's very old. I use it, and haven't had any Model T problems that I attribute to it. Of course, I drive enough to use it up before it can go bad .

I had to take my head off to check for a blown gasket. After cleaning it up and putting it on, all of the bolts torque to 45 ft lbs (Z head) except for the bolt that held the horn on. I even tried leaving off the horn and the bolt tightens down past finger tight, but beyond that it keeps spinning and never fully tightens up. What can I do?

FWIW - the Service Manual does in fact direct the mechanic to both fill the hub cavity with grease as well as fill the hub cap with grease.

I believe that was a direct reflection of the quality of the grease used during that period, and the fact that the car was expected to see much more severe and wet service than we typically do today.

This is a candidate but without a serial number. ( Aussie Serial Numbers are generally preceded by C xxxxxx from Canada factory)

The S7 is probably the pattern number, so if they had flaws, they would know which pattern was causing the problems. Patterns have only a limited life, based on how hard they are used.

Pressured washed the frame got 99&44/100% of the red clay off
as far as I can tell this is a piece of copper tubing used as a shim for worn brake pivots.

So my brother said that old grease (from the 60's and 70's) mixed with modern grease can have a chemical reaction that can cause the grease to become corrosive and damage the wheel bearings. I know all the old should be cleaned out anyway but if that's true and you don't get it all out.........Any thoughts?

Bryant is right. The grease stiffener (soap) can react chemically with other types of stiffened grease. With the exception of wheel bearings, I use lithium grease for lubing everything. Lithium grease is very common and sold about everywhere.

Mark, setting the crown wheel to pinion gear mesh by the gap between them ignores the need to set the correct rolling fit on each tooth. They are best meshed on rolling fit rarher than backlash. With that fit, the backlash looks after itself

I would say, leave it as is. Unless you can PERFECTLY match it, so it is impossible to detect. It is only original once, and like a T with the original paint, it will always be restored or repainted if you change it.

It was a good opportunity to wipe the dust and oil from our 1907 Buick this year. We didn't drive it at all last year. The chain drive and two cylinders make it a nice contrast to the model Ts. Other than a model T Speedster there were no cars before 1927 and few restored cars.

Good day everyone
I got my first model T running two days ago. It’s a 1911 with an original coil box. When I turn the key from battery to mag I get a spark plug type shock. Is that normal?

Iam looking for any information related to the American Bosch front plate distributor. Parts books, installation information and the like. 48CD81C0-7475-4D03-BA7A-8D5FB5EFA56F.jpeg this is a type T448 that I have obtained. Any help is much appreciated.

I have an original cast iron unit with the distributor. When I bought it the front plate had no bearing or bushing where the bottom of the distributor main shaft would be supported. Is this correct?

I also have one of the aluminum reproductions and it has a roller bearing at that spot.

Have for sale a working Generator. It works on battery as seen in the blurry gear photo (tested on my old lawn mower battery). I assume then that it would work in a generating capacity as well? At least I feel like I read something like that years ago. I would assume since it runs as a motor, then the field coils, armature, etc are all good....

It became important for me to do something with the 1919 Harley-Davidson engine. The bike has been gaining in value and parts since the acquisition of a basket case in 1973. A total rebuild isn't an option for me at this time but I believe I can reassemble it and at least get all the parts in one place and maybe fire it up. One of the crank pin...

I had the opportunity to drive Rob’s model B Ford on last Wednesdays mini tour in New London about 40 miles. The most distance a model B has traveled in 100 years. Happy to report the car performed well. Would have done the 125 mile run on Saturday but due to illness the car had to leave. Was sure an honor to be in trusted with it’s care....

Hi all,
I just took off the hogshead to change my bands. One of the mag coils has no covering on it. It's the one by the starter hole. Is there a way to cover it up with something like RTV, or liquid rubber? Thanks.

Look at the flywheel ring gear! In my opinion the missing insulation is the nat sitting on the trunk of the elephant in the room. The much bigger problem, are the teeth worn so much on the flywheel. And what all that metal in the oil has done to the babbitt. ???

For sale: One pair of John Brown Model 15 headlights, Ford Script. Right now they are in pretty sad shape - someone with more money than brains had them nickel plated for use on a Hot Rod, so they look absolutely dreadful. And it looks like much of the writing on the bonnets was worn off during the process. I still think there is enough left here...

USED rear car axle spiral wound roller bearings part # 2508, these are for both inner and outer and left and right side, lightly used very good condition and measure .002 wear or less on the rollers, no loose cages, limited number available, most have no makers markings but some say Hyatt and a few Ford, all are the original style spiral wound...

Thank you George, this is to go on my fathers bitsa he built in the late 50's as a kid. You can deflect the fronts with a bit of knee. It is a glorious collection of parts. Probably has round fellows, but not being picky. If a nice set can be found, I'll be happy.

I can supply a very limited number of the proper timer control rod swivels with nut for earlier Model Ts. They are NOS New Old Stock and there will be no more when these are gone. If you do not have a threaded rod, I will throw in ( until they run out) a later control rod that you could cut off the end and thread for the swivel. Priced at $45...

NO these are the correct 12-32 OR 7/32-32.
Ford Model T catalog shows 7/32-32.
See attached info below.
Note that the 2 sizes are only 2 thousandths different and do directly interchange.

I have seen a very interesting device for adjusting buzzer coils, the ECCT tool.

Nice, but for my taste this is a little bit too pricy. I will not pay 400-500$ for such thing when I need it possibly 1 time a year.

So I will try to do it in old way , by measuring the drawn current and setting it to approx 1.5 Amps. I also plan to build a little...

The first thing to check on a coil that does not buzz is the points. As for capacitors, I believe a coil can both buzz and emit a spark with a bad capacitor, but it will not work correctly. Capacitors can be checked using a good analog ohm meter. A Model T ammeter or any other common dashboard type ammeter will not be accurate enough to give any...
