Does your engine have a modern neoprene camshaft seal? I have a New Day and I know that when you use a modern seal you don't use the large brass washer / shield over the camshaft.

Listen to Jerry - there is nothing holding the studs in place that secure the wishbone ball to the pan. Wire the studs together so they can't turn.
If corrosion has thinned the wall of the wishbone tubes too much they might bend at an inopportune time. When in doubt, replace!

You might want to consider sending your coils out to be checked and adjusted. Other than that, the switch is certainly suspect. I didn't see any photos of the timer brush - I'm curious as to it's condition.

I use a New Day and have never oiled it. Occasional cleaning is all. The Montana 500 racers often cut a circular block of wood to fit in the cap, mount it to a drill and scuff the contacts with very fine sandpaper.
This is what my cap and brush looked like after 5400+ miles.

Re: Carburetor still acting up….
My '17 came with a G. I had it rebuilt and it ran nice. It is a more complicated carb than some. After doing some research, I bought a rebuilt NH from Russ Potter because my reading indicated it performed better than the G. I had a chance to run the engine on a dyno, first with the G then with the N...

Re: Newbe 1919 Touring Questions
Another thing to check when assessing the spokes - with the demountable rims removed, look at the conditions of the tenons (the part of the spoke that pokes thru the felloe.) If it looks like a wart, it has been compromised and the spokes are on borrowed time. A good whack on such a spoke sheared of...

Re: switch and ammeter wiring
There is a difference between the photo and the diagram. In the Photo, the "bright" headlight wire goes to 5 on the terminal strip and the "Dim" to 6. On the diagram those two wires are reversed. Not a big deal but confusing. This drawing appears to be old but I don't know it's source. It shows the ...

Re: WOSP Starter Wiring
I would just convert everything to 12 volts. That said, if you keep the wiring for the starter separate from everything else there should be no interaction. The WOSP has a built-in solenoid so you can run a cable from the battery direct to the post on the starter and run a jumper from said post thru...

Straps should not pull forward on the front axle? Are you concerned about pulling the wishbone ball out? I tow in a closed trailer. I attach two straps to the front axle, two to the rear. I put axle straps around the axles as close to the wheels as I can get them, pulling straight back or forward. I...

A wire loop attached to a block of wood or something. You have to spear the loop with your dangling crank.... speed and size of loop determine the level of challenge.

Re: Planning a visit to the Henry Ford Museum
What day do you plan to visit? I agree with others that you could easily spend the day and more in either the village or museum. Piquette is also great with it's focus on the Model T and the other early Ford cars. Perhaps someone from that area will have some time to help you out. My advice - whet y...

A few comments. A centered mirror atop the windshield is pretty useless if you put the top up. What if you want to fold the top of the windshield down for old-time air conditioning? Yes, I have a mirror on the right side. There are times it comes in handy. All mirrors shake (the Antique Motor Sport ...

Re: Rear view mirror options
After trying other mirrors (clamp on) I settled on a pair from antique motor sports for my 1917 Touring. In my opinion they are the best available. For extra coverage I have a Model A type mirror attached to the spare tire on the left running board.

Depends - I've tried rebuilding carbs with usually unsatisfactory results.... When I send them out to Russ Potter for rebuild they come back good as new - ready to bolt on and go. One mod I have done to mine and other's carbs is to install a Scott Conger "Full-Flow" valve which insures enough fuel g...

Re: Loose spoke tennons
Time to re-spoke. If you have demountables you should remove the rim and look at the felloes. Your tenons need to fill the hole and be tight. Often the end of the tenon is eroded by years of moisture and stress. You don't want the wheel to come apart at the least opportune time..... I had some spoke...

Actually, they're rather ingenious. Fokker died in 1939 so it is possible some of these found their way onto European Model T's.

I vote for a starter - I'll go one step farther and vote for a 12 volt WOSP geared starter from Snyders. Totally trouble free (no bendix issues) and you can use a smaller sealed AGM battey tucked away somewhere. You will have to pull the engine and install a flywheel with a ring gear and a coil ring...

I have a Bergs "low" black radiator. It cools great. The only issue is when I've put a motometer and dogbone on it eventually the filler neck comes loose. Radiator Coolant
It is generally agreed (at least amongst us northerners) that a 50-50 mix of water and ethylene glycol is the optimum cooling mix - both for cooling and freeze protection and to protect against corrosion. What got me thinking is the fact that such a mixture behaves a little differently in a unpressu...

I'd like to second the suggestion of installing one of Scott Conger's full flow float valves (assuming it's a NH). It will improve fuel flow and should end your leaking woes. It certainly made a difference in my touring.

To build on what Keith wrote - I don't have a generator either. The LED's don't draw much current and the Hot Shot keeps the battery ful...
