Re: Stewart 102 Speedometer bouncing
I inspected the head and found that the drum was able to move at least 0.060" vertically. Against my better judgement I removed the tiny brass strip that holds the main shaft and bent in slightly to allow for only 0.008-10" of vertical movement , and the result is a much smoother reading, but it sti...

Re: Stewart 102 Speedometer bouncing
Yes, it has me stumped. It runs silky smooth with a reversed drill driving it, holds various speeds steady, and the odometer reads fine too. I was thinking that the cable may be a tad too long and binding or putting pressure on the speedometer input mechanism so was thinking of changing the position...

Re: Stewart 102 Speedometer bouncing
I tried the plastic liner trick and it helped somewhat but it still bounces around. It even bounces when the car is stopped with the motor running and sometimes sits at 5 MPH with the car not moving. I may try repositioning the swivel so that the cable comes out lower.

My rebuilt Stewart 102 is bouncing between 0 and 40 MPH and it's not the speedometer's fault as it is silky smooth when using a drill (reversed) to spin it. The cable is clean, not kinked, and lubricated and the swivel appears smooth as well. Any chance it will improve with use?

Might consider selling these separately as no one seems to want the package of four. I have not test run any of them but they are all complete with pressure tested floats. I'll take $200.00 for either of the NH straight throughs and $150.00 for the Simmons/Wizzard, and including the shipping.

Dan; If you look close, the top carb on your CFM chart is a Stromberg OF. Hey Mark; I think that if your driving is mostly under say 35-40 MPH the 4:1 is (just) OK. I live in a flat area and used my cars to test rebuilt carbs so I'm often over 50 MPH and with the 4:1 ratio, it's more like aiming the car rather than steering it. Lots of good comments about the timer case and the rollers but nothing about the O.D of the actual timer case and concentricity and wear in the timing cover. Wheeler-Schebler carburetor
Restored and tested Wheeler-Schebler carb and related hardware. Included are the heat stove and flex tubing pieces. These carbs are a direct replacement, and actually better in my opinion than the Stromberg OFs, but not near as common. Asking $650.00 including shipping.

U&J Carburetor/manifold
Restored, tested, and guaranteed U&J carb and correct H-1 aluminum manifold. This set-up really works well (Stan was right), tons of power and a smooth idle. I test-ran it for 3 weeks on my '26 and have sold the car so the carb is available . I'll also include the linkage that was set up for an acce...

John, you can still have the carb (thanks to Richard in VA). You were the first to express interest, but I wonder just how long you think I should hav...

Stromberg OF Carbs. Rebuilt
I have three rebuilt Stromberg OF carbs. Complete, tested, and ready to go. I used some of the Tim Morsher steel replacement parts on these carbs. All three have new steel needles (identical to the originals) and the extra choke spring added so you can use the stock T choke mechanism to pull the cho...

Re: stromber "OF" carburetor literature
Hey Mark; I'm a little surprised that even a decent "kit" could cover the multitude of issues to be dealt with when rebuilding these 90 year old carburetors. I'm no Stan Howe (RIP) but have done maybe 50-60 of these carbs and have yet to find one that needs only a major cleaning and new gaskets. Of ...

Re: stromber "OF" carburetor literature
I too am very interested in what would be in a Stromberg OF rebuild kit. If it's not just a "gasket kit", it should include a new (long) needle and seat, a throttle shaft (assuming your body (bore) is not worn beyond use), a choke return spring, the roller, or the complete arm to operate the economi...

Re: Wanted: U and J carburetor bowl
Dan : Your chances of finding the correct bowl are zero, and even if you did I wouldn't trust it not to crack. Chuck the U&J body in a lathe and trim the bowl mounting surface to fit a steel or brass Holley G bowl. No one will know the difference unless you tell them.

Thanks for all the input guys. The sediment bowl that I broke off was not very rusty but it was in very tight to get the proper orientation. Thanks guys but I've never had any luck with an "easy-out". To me they just apply even more pressure to the surfaces you are trying to separate. I've run Pru, Z, and Reeder heads and the Prus gives the best performance of the three as well as better head gasket sealing surface area over the Z head. All run with a stock cam however.
