I can not believe you hauled that back from Hershey, it was a nice original looking radiator, tells you how hershey was this year, that would of been gone in a heart beat on a good year!!

Re: Knocking When Engine Decelerates

I had one years ago that did this, some one had replaced the cast iron pistons with aluminum ones, the bore was to large from years of the cast running, the cast have a lower oil ring to keep the piston from slapping, the aluminum do not and that is where the noise come from at least on this engine....

Re: Help! Engine Rod Knock Babbitt Disintegrated

Check your crank for roundness with a good set of mics or dials if crank is out of round it will just do this again, some install new rods with out checking crank and this is what happens, not saying the crank was not ground but to loose a rod in that short of time makes me wonder.

Re: Engine noise from freshly rebuilt engine.

John has a point on the lifters, I chased that one down once myself, another one I had was a .060 engine with the older square sided pistons, before the champhered the top corners of the pistons, the piston was hitting the head gasket from over bore, but that noise sounded like one rod noise.

Re: Engine noise from freshly rebuilt engine.

Pull the head and see if pistons are hitting it, rods will stretch on revving engine, had an A engine that block and head where both milled to much and caused this noise?

Re: Metallic Ping Sound

Just pulled one apart with a noise, who ever built the trans only used two washers instead of three under the clutch drum, that allowed the brake drum to move backwards and the six bolts where tapping the oil pan, but an extra was the ring that holds the clutch spring on was rubbing against the ball...
