There are brass plugs at the end of each passage. Remove the plugs and soak the carb in carb cleaner. I use an ultrasonic cleaner. Use a wire through the passages to ensure there’s nothing in there. You can plug the passages back up with soft brass like brazing rod. Vapor blasting will make it prett...

I believe that John is referring to an early video where a pry bar is used to break the hogs head loose. Chadwick, we need to differentiate between patch and repair. For a tour patch I would find a way to keep the key in place (gum, glue, whatever) and tighten the s**t out of the hub. Leave the cap off and check it often. By now it should be clear that welding is the worst option. As John mentioned in ...

Both the Ruckstell and KC Warford give the same low gear that is quite effective. The Warford offers an overdrive. I think you’ll find that the overdrive seldom allows higher speed. What it does allow is lower rpm for a given speed, thus helping prolong engine life.

Re: Put in Bay Trip for T's
Looks like a great place to tour, but a little far from California. Looking forward to pictures and maybe a story in the Vintage Ford.

Re: 2023 Model T, 6 Day Golden Gate Tour Pictures
Unfortunately circumstances only allowed me one day of touring. But it was a good day and I saw some old friends. This was a great bunch to tour with. Of course seeing my picture reminds me how much I need to go on a diet.

Sounds like Pat may have an opinion on rats. They get into places you’d never believe and the mess is disgusting. There’s always little dead rats in the nest too. Not a pleasant memory. That’s an excellent example of a hard to find crack, Mark. If available, wet magnaflux is definitely the way to go...

I suppose what I said may have come across as condescending, it was not my intention. I’m glad you were able to get you motor to someone who knows what they’re doing.

I agree with Scott. Find a knowledgeable person to help with this. These decisions require first hand examination and measurements. No offense, if you don’t know the name of a part you probably need a good deal of assistance in this.

A lot of speedsters run straight pipes. They sound good but they all have a certain RPM range where they get kinda raspy. A more engineery guy could talk about pressure waves and such but all I know is it just happens. Adding an auger in the pipe can mitigate the problem by breaking up the waves. I ...

I hope you’re able to form a local chapter. Being involved in a chapter can sometimes be work but is rewarding. While you have been enjoying your T, odds are there are others in your area that just need an excuse to get out there.

Today we had a flash tour. On short notice 4 cars went on a short tour then stopped at the Sonoma County Museum to view a collection of mostly moveable art by Michael Cooper. He builds the most elaborate kinetic sculptures. I couldn’t get any photos in the museum but some of his pieces can be viewed...

So it runs rich and has a big cam. You can see the effects of reversion in the intake ports. Cylinders #2 and #3 lean out due to the reversion. Since the carb is rich the center cylinders actually end up with a better mixture at idle as you can see by the exhaust color. You see this effect on the co...

What did your chapter do in May?
After record rains, a few seminars and a pancake breakfast, the Redwood Empire Model T Club had it’s first tour of the year. A dozen cars met for donuts and coffee. We then toured Alexander Valley, full of world class vineyards. Even if you don’t drink wine the vineyards make for nice scenery. After...

Maybe the question should be “what is the forum being used for”. It’s is hosted by the MTFCA using membership dues. Should we have some more focus on club activities. We have an off topic forum but no place for club and chapter related happenings. Frankly at this point all the “technical” questions ...

No, the T did not come with step plates. That said, there are thousands of documented accessories and their use can and should be considered “period correct”. I dislike the term purist as it is often used as a term of distain. If someone wants to strive to have as correct a car as possible, more pow...

The best donuts are at the Mt Hamilton Observatory. The ride on the back side is pretty nice too.

Yes, wood is basically carbon waiting to burn. That said, to get a carbon trail in your coil box would require a dire problem in the plug/wire or more likely water in the box. You didn’t wash the original dirt off, did you Larry?
