Going to be a busy June in California. Auburn Swap Meet on the 2nd, SCVMTFC Endurance Run on the 9th then the San Diego National Tour on the 16th. F.A.S.T is also reporting a potential Hill Climb in Virginia City on the 14th/15th. Hmm, can you get from Virginia City to San Diego in a day?

You lock one shackle to help the rocking back and forth to a minimum. You can also use a simple panhard bar.

I made a front bearing socket out of a socket because you can’t use the ford wrench with buffalo hubs. I just milled a close enough form in the ratchet side since there’s no real torque on the bearing.

Re: weld repair on axle by the keyway
Chadwick, we need to differentiate between patch and repair. For a tour patch I would find a way to keep the key in place (gum, glue, whatever) and tighten the s**t out of the hub. Leave the cap off and check it often. By now it should be clear that welding is the worst option. As John mentioned in ...

Re: weld repair on axle by the keyway
The simple answer is that there is a high quality replacement part available to replace the damaged part. Economics would be that, unless you are equipped and qualified to cut a new key way, a machine shop would probably charge close to the price of the known good replacement part. The new keyway wo...

My two cents. The first reply by John answered the original question accurately. There are several areas you have to check on an axle, bearing race areas, seal surfaces, ta...

Both the Ruckstell and KC Warford give the same low gear that is quite effective. The Warford offers an overdrive. I think you’ll find that the overdrive seldom allows higher speed. What it does allow is lower rpm for a given speed, thus helping prolong engine life.

What did your chapter do in May?
After record rains, a few seminars and a pancake breakfast, the Redwood Empire Model T Club had it’s first tour of the year. A dozen cars met for donuts and coffee. We then toured Alexander Valley, full of world class vineyards. Even if you don’t drink wine the vineyards make for nice scenery. After...

Awesome looking speedster Mike. Can’t wait to see it in person. Now the pressure is really on to finish the Mercury.

Re: Who is using the Forum?
Maybe the question should be “what is the forum being used for”. It’s is hosted by the MTFCA using membership dues. Should we have some more focus on club activities. We have an off topic forum but no place for club and chapter related happenings. Frankly at this point all the “technical” questions ...

Re: Brass Step Plates
No, the T did not come with step plates. That said, there are thousands of documented accessories and their use can and should be considered “period correct”. I dislike the term purist as it is often used as a term of distain. If someone wants to strive to have as correct a car as possible, more pow...

I looked at all the photos and don’t feel the need to give an opinion as it is very well presented. Unsolicited opinions don’t do anyone any good.

The best donuts are at the Mt Hamilton Observatory. The ride on the back side is pretty nice too.

Re: Carbon Trail
Yes, wood is basically carbon waiting to burn. That said, to get a carbon trail in your coil box would require a dire problem in the plug/wire or more likely water in the box. You didn’t wash the original dirt off, did you Larry?

Re: 1914 Speedster
Brass speedsters tend to be registered in the 12-14 range depending mostly on what lights they have. Most speedsters are dated by the donor chassis. My Mercury is registered as a 19 even though the body was not manufactured until around 23. Others just get dated by whatever title you might have. The...

Good news from Mark. The Chaffins 270 cam has always been an excellent cam. I’m running two now and wouldn’t hesitate to install one in any T.

Like Jerry said, there’s always something. A new Ruckstell kit is a big investment, I wouldn’t hesitate to replace the axles and probably use a roller pinion bearing.

I’m not a nit picker. It’s correct enough and if it goes for the catalog estimate 14-18k it’s a good buy.

Redwood Empire Model T Club safety inspection
Today our club had our spring safety inspection and pancake breakfast. We had a great turn out and inspected several members cars. I was busy and didn’t get much in the way of photos, hopefully someone will add some more. What did your chapter do this weekend? Andy 02BF25F8-9833-44B2-9F66-3F0778DEB1...
