Re: Do I have to tighten the low band some more?
Adjustment should be with plenty of free play in the low pedal but it should go no closer to the floor than an inch when fully depressed. If you are having to make that adjustment often, check to be sure you don't have a cracked drum eating up the band lining.

Re: What to expect after buying a car
I agree on almost everything. Bronze bushings are easy to find online by size. I was able to pick them up at a store just 35 miles from me. While wood felloe wheels are best done by a pro, new spokes for steel felloe wheels cost about $144 a wheel and assembling them ain't rocket surgery. But the s...

Having to guess what you will sell is like guessing how much gas you need to buy when you fill up. When I run to an outfit with that policy I tell them I'll go buy my gas someplace sane. And I do.

The original 10-32 hole was good enough for several decades, and the one I already fixed with new aluminum is fine, so I expect I will do the same on these other two. I can't rotate the post. It has an oil line.

On the other hand, if you buy used parts at a salvage yard there is a tax on them.
Taxes at swap meets vary by state. Most states don't bother. At least one seems to have a tax on the books, but doesn't enforce it. And some are pretty aggressive, including threats to sellers in their instructions.

Mag post screws: correct thread?
The last time I had the hogshead off my 1915 transmission I found one of the mag post screw holes stripped out. The simple solution was to fill the hole with new aluminum, redrill, and tap. The screws were 10-32, so that's the tap I used. Recently, despite my great care to be gentle, both the other...

When I had the sign business I used to set up at swap meets. My absolute favorite was on the grounds of the Pate Museum, west of Fort Worth. I had called them last week and I just emailed them again asking for the deadline for attending. [/size] Just to be clear, there is a deadline for buying spaces or for entering a car in the show. The oil that came out appears thinner than I expected.
That would be engine oil leaking out at the ball cap and running down inside the tube to the rear axle. Keep your U-joint packed with grease.

I had to grind a little off the side of the collar bolt to clear the inside of the tube.
It was the irregular inside of the tube that was the problem, so that's where I did the grinding. Some tubes have that problem, and some don't.

I can't tell you about those outer seals because I haven't used them. I use the stock felt washers. I suppose too much grease in the Hyatt bearings can be a problem, but I believe the usual mess is caused by rear axle oil leaking past the inner seals. I was told to install the neoprene inner seals ...

Yes. According to some internet reading since I posted it has to be "open cell" foam. I aim to hunt up some of that and try it.

Bravo! Nicely done. As I watched I wondered, "Would this be better with music?" I think the answer is no. I like the ambient sound. It adds to the realism. The one standout technical glitch is wind noise. Let me know when you get that one figured out, because I haven't yet.

With red heat they can be put back into shape.
I have squeezed them cold in a vise with no obvious ill effect. I assume they were spread by being used for other things than band adjustment, as they were more than a negligible ¹⁄₆₄" "too big".

It's earlier for sure, but I don't know the year. I'm also not sure it's a 1917. The ¹¹⁄₁₆" end seems rather big to fit into the space around those transmission nuts. There are some Z tools that I like a lot better for the job.

Just for appearance, a repo like this is great. If you do much driving, especially on trips, you want a functioning can or cans. But as most of us have found, original cans are scarce and expensive.
