The first year we were in our house (1978) I didn't have car projects ready to work on so I played with some little stuff. I have always liked scale models. It is as easy to get lost in the detail as it is with the big stuff or other interests.

I dug the box of my Model S model out again today. Here are some more pictures of it. It is 1/12th scale. I had my fun out of it far before completion but the study of it was enormous satisfaction. Models tent to bounce around and disassemble. Dust and stains have taken their toll but it's fun to dig the box out and enjoy what's left.

This “thing” was found after a wash out in a creek in Pennsylvania recently. A friend sent me the pictures and I figure this would be the place to try to figure out what it might have been part of.
Any guesses? It’s very bazaar looking 🧐

Way back, a long, long time ago was a game show called Liars club
the contestants had to guess what a thing was. 4 celebrities explained what the thing was.
Only one was telling the truth. Most things were turn of the century products/tools.

You don't say whether or not the spark plugs had been removed? If the engine is upright and the plugs have been removed, the holes in the head will be like funnels and allow much water in. If it is laying with the valve side or manifold side up, water could get in, however if the valve side is down, it will only get in if the engine is submerged...

Maybe a dumb question. Can I use a grounded out T coil on a test stand for something else?
Grounded out meaning the high tension lead grounded to the commutator terminal.
Thinking 6-12 Volts to operate the points. The tests may be several minutes long.
All testing is non-destructive meaning the coil could be cleaned up to use in a box as intended...

I believe that's part of the (gas) generator. It may be that the half globes on the threaded pipes would be closer together when in operation, or a part may be missing. I think they are for regulating the amount of air mixed with the gas. (?)
You'd shut off or regulate the lamp by turning down or turning off the gasoline at the base/font....

It knows this because it knows where it isn’t.
By subtracting where it isn’t from where it is or, where is from where it isn’t (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference of deviation.

Yes, it is cedar. I was thinking of finding some smaller trays from the 1910’s, 20’s, or 30’s on eBay or somewhere else to organize tools. I might need to find some ford script tools as well. Solar Battery Charger/Maintainer

I've been playing around with using solar to maintain the batteries on my motor home - starter and house batteries.
I have a 100 watt solar panel and a control unit. The unit is variable in voltage although to Model T folks, I don't think you could set it to 6 volts.
Question: If I leave it hooked up 24/7 and very seldom use it, what voltage...

Concerning a Model T 6 volt battery, the Optima type batteries do a very good job of holding a charge in vehicles that are not driven regularly, provided there are no parasitic drains.

The '37 and '38 Chevrolets were good cars. I'd love to own a '37 or '38 coupe. Starting in '37, most all the body wood was gone, and the engines went from 3 to 4 main bearings. All models had hydraulic brakes. They still had a floor shift, and the Standard models had a straight front axle on leaf springs, with single-acting hydraulic shocks all...

I know some of you have a 6.7 PS diesel. S&S Motorsports is coming out with a new high pressure pump to replace the famous CP4 pump. This CP4 is famous for failing and trashing out you fuel system. If any of you have had a CP4 fail you know how bad it is. Looks like a good job. I can post link to YouTube video showing it if you want.

Another reason I have a 6.2 gas F250. Diesel engines cost a lot more to buy and it seems to maintain. I can buy a lot of gasoline for the difference.

I'll start with three large Whites. I somehow got to ride in each of these. The first two were restored by...

I am reading about timers rght now because I am stumped as to why even with a new timing rod,my timer's rod connection hole is straight up when the lever is in retard position. I have a 26 with an older New Day on it. The one with reddish brown color. When the spark lever is all the way up the tab on the timer is about 1/4 inch to the left of the large bolt at the top of the timing gear cover. I am standing in front of the radiator looking in and the tab is to the left of the bolt. That is the position where the timer is...

While this question does pertain to model t parts, I am really trying to figure out what I should expect from my lathe. I was going to try and chuck a model t transmission shaft up and true the flange like Mike Bender did in the model t tips video. I figured I would first indicate it in, and if that worked out, then I would buy a steady rest and...

Sounds like you are on track. Good job.
I find it quite satisfying to do a blueprint job restoring transmissions.

Uh, I mean, a gentlemanly, polite discussion ?
Much has been posted in the subject of the pyroxylin finish on bodies for the Improved '26-'27 cars, and how they were a satin or low luster finish. This photograph is from promotional material for the new series, and it sure looks like it's about as shiny and high-gloss as anyone could wish for....

They coulda rubbed some kerosene on the car and cliced a few pictures! :D
Shiny wouldn't last long in the country anyway, mostly the city folks probably kept theirs shiney because they had cobblestone streets and weren't driving in mud. OF course there was the Autobowl if you got mud on your tires!

V nosed trailer with the slant

Has anyone here got a V nosed trailer with the slant. I have a 18 foot v nose and it pulls worse than my 34 foot toy hauler. I think it is due to the square edge at the top of the V. I have seen a few V trailers with the slant top and was wondering if that would pull better. INPUT???? Thanks
Last post
Tire types and tire pressures on the combination will have an effect. Condition and suitability of the tow vehicle is important. The type of trailer suspension can be a factor. A hard cover over a pickup bed or a camper shell might reduce aero drag of the combination.

Well the good friend of mine that helped me get started into Model T's back in the early 90's had this short dog truck for years.I have always wanted it but he would never price it to me. Even right before he died, I tried to get it and he didn't really want to get rid of it.
Well he was taken to the hospital and couldn't come home and later died...

Stanley Steam car wheel question

First post
I'm wanting to buy a rim spreader for a 1922 Stanley 7 passenger touring. Not my car but wanted to give it to him as a gift. Would any of the ones out there work or does it have to be bigger than what we use on a Model T.
Last post
In 1922 Stanley made two distinct models, the 735 and the 740. Most 735s used 26 wheels and most 740s used 23 wheels, but time has a way of slipping different parts onto cars, so who knows what size are on the car.
Further, Stanley used lock-ring style rims, not split rims. Still, who knows what is on the car now.
Thanks so much for the info...

When I go through a drive through in my T, I usually pay in 2 dollar bills and half dollars. The reactions can get pretty amusing. The manager told her how and then told her that they...

So, you've got an extra $200 laying around. How could that be bad luck? :)

I have no first hand advice. However, when we have a Cooker Tour , it seems most of the folks in our chapter start with fully cooked food that is simply warmed in the manifold cooker. Helps to prevent the possibility of undercooked meat. So, I'd say pick your favorite chili recipe, cook it at home the day before, then warm it up in the cooker. Or,...

Family home movies. (Not mine) 1929 Franklin, Lincoln Highway road scenes, small towns, landmarks, steam trains, motor court cabins. If you have some time on a cold winters day it's a good window into what auto travel was like for one family in 1929-30.

I just finished watching the two videos and what I think is amazing is that these people went on a cross country drive from Phila to Alaska during the 1st year of the depression and thought nothing of it.
Early in the first video when they are driving on the concrete highways it's easy to see the oil trail in each lane.

My thoughts too, Rich. Some solutions require tools or methods beyond what some folks have access to, so alternatives are welcome indeed ! The success of this forum is that posts are most always polite and respectful. We may not always agree, but we can always agree on good fellowship.

Hi Guys off topic this time, I recently purchased a 1951 Rover 75 P4 know as a Cyclops for obvious reasons. Previous owner has passed away and had it for 60 years and it was always garaged. The interior woodwork is great and I want to keep it that way. Sun exposer when out and about is my main concern.
What do you suggest?
Thanks
