NOT good.
Pulled the engine to put a rebuilt transmission on.
Put the car back together and when I checked the oil prior to starting the car it had oil in it (I installed a dipstick years ago).
Changed the oil and pulled the head thinking I had a blown head gasket. Replaced the head gasket (didn't really look bad) and reassembled.

Cocoa Mat

I was in a local IKEA store and noticed they had cocoa floor mats for sale. The mats are perfect for the rear floor of 1910-1916 touring cars and are very reasonably priced. They are large enough so that they can be trimmed and fitted to the floor and look to be durable and nicely made. If you need a correct looking rear mat, this may be the...

I found a very similar mat at Home Depot for about $11.00 and it worked great until someone got into the car with something on their shoes that left a big stain on it. I took that one out of the car and it is now in front of my workshop doorway and I spent another $11.00 to get a new one for the car. It is like nothing ever happened.

It's been 11 years ago that posted looking for information to identify a carburetor. Turned out to be a Wizard or Simmons, no markings on it.

My Carburetor has no markings as to whether it is a Simmons or wizard, but it definitely outperforms the sway back Holley NH.
It idles slower and runs smoother at all speeds. Mine doesn't have the preheat element. I think I would be leery of putting power to the heating element!

There are enough parts to build up some good chassis to be sure. If you’re a tinkerer this is Model T Heaven. Model T Haven sold all parts they had. Could this be some of those or someone else’s. I’ll bet there are good rear axle Hyatt bearings in those rear ends.
Some nice Model T’s have been built up from worse parts than these.

Resetting the fingers from a wider clearance down to the smaller 13/16 will decrease spring tension, hence less lock up pressure, hence MORE slip. That would be a step backwards for you. Likely your spring is weak. Thats the purpose for adding more clearance(widening) in the 3 fingers is...

With all due respect, I am not looking for generic speculation but what I am looking for is what is considered authentic on the 'color' of Brass Glass Channel?
Was the Windshield Frame originally painted (dipped??) prior to installing the Glass Channel, -followed by the installation of the Windshield Glass, ...or was the Glass Channel installed...
Last post
Without question the setting channel was never painted on new ford cars. I have owned enough original examples and studied unrestored cars to say this is established fact. It was also very common for owners to paint over the brightwork on their cars as they aged. The ford owners manual for 1913 recommends repainting the car once a year. Paints...

Cleaning up parts on Daisy (1914 Touring), working on the front fender irons. The headlamp pickle forks are DB's, but I'm not familiar with the mark on the actual fender iron.
Anyone?

The second photo clinches it. The C over H is much clearer on that iron. Interestingly, that same mark was on components of my Canadian 1915 tourer.
I wonder just how much of the Canadian cars was actually Made in Canada.

My 1924 touring is having problems in performance. The #3 cylinder is not working correctly. Have replaced all plugs, wires, cleaned all contacts in coil box, rebuilt good coils. Good compression in all cylinders (40 - 44). Yet when you short out each cylinder, #1, #2, and #4 will short out the engine, but not at #3. All 4 will spark with a strong...

I disagree with the clearance specs as provided. Way too loose.
4-6 will pass a lot of oil into the U-joint especially if you are using a transmission screen.
.0015-.002 is what I fit to in this part with babbit, same as for rods & mains.

Nasty timer.... Clean it up, then try using Marvel Mystery Oil. Apply oil frequently as Ford recommended. One member suggested drilling a small hole in the lower part of the timer to allow oil and grunge to escape. That sounds like a good idea to me, since it would prevent an accumulation of gummy wear particles and fouled oil.

There has been various interpretations of the accident that killed Ken Meek. Blame was placed on a broken shock absorber perch but evidence suggests that it was broken in the accident and not the cause. Too much speculation has been placed on the broken parts after the accident and not how they may have failed during the accident. Not to mention a...

Early road work and fixing Model T flats

Here’s an interesting newspaper article about early road work in the Model T era close to Waco, Texas. It gives a clue about old car owners and the accepted nuisance of fixing flats. We can only imagine the hassle of going to town and being dressed then having to get out and fix a flat. Evidently road maintenance was still being done by mule power.

When my dad was eight years old his family moved from South Georgia to central Florida, a trip of about 350 miles. The car was a new 1924 T Model. What was surprising to everyone and almost unbelievable, they made the whole trip without a flat tire. Almost unheard of in those days.

Happy New Year's to all of you model t enthusiasts in or near Utah. A few of us are getting together for lunch on Saturday Jan 3rd at 1130 am at the Red Robbin in Murray Ut. Not planning to take my speedster this time as the weather looks to be not in favor of speedsters this week.
We're just hoping to meet a few other T people, talk about cars...

Factory Roadster pickup or Runabout

I have a 26 Roadster pickup but my question is in 26 specifically did the back of a factory roadster pickup have a embossed back for a turtle deck or were they all smooth I do know you could have the dealer install the pickup bed on a Runabout when new and mine has had a pick up bed since at least 1961 but not sure what it started out as originally

This conversation comes up every few years. I’ve seen both types of back panels on supposedly factory pick ups.
I wonder if Ford would make two separate back panels, when one would work. Seems opposite of Henry’s way of thinking.

Me again with more tire questions. Trying to find something that will fit before Coker's sale ends. What I have now are 2 rims that measure 22 3/4 inside, 24 1/4 outside and are 2 7/8 wide outside. Appear to be 2 1/2 inside rim width. All measurements are in inches.

30x3” rims are 24” in diameter, with a tread width of 2-1/2”
30x3-1/2” rims are 23” in diameter with a tread width of 3”.
What am I missing ?

I use to keep track of the grey circles to the left of a topic. This always let me know what was the last topic I read. I look at this forum every day and when I looked for the grey circle to see what I read last night it was way down by a topic I read on 12/27. Four days of stories are red and have not changed to grey. Is this common for others?

Several can be found on-line, obvious from the 30's or so, as a promotional by Firestone.
Perhaps sold or maybe just image items that Firestone dealers kept in their store fronts. Lid recess held matches.
Also you can find rubber ash trays with the glass tray molded within a Firestone tire, only miniature.

After reading the posts here I’m of the opinion that the spark lever is being improperly used. That’s right. It wasn’t common, but it wasn’t unknown either.
The most common modification I see in early photos includes electrified gas lamps. Maybe 40% of early brass Fords were equipped with them, Ford dealers stocked the lamp conversation sets and of course would happily install them, since it was a profit item. Customers were happy too,...

September 1925 Serial number is a 1926 model engine and body car.
It should be called the early '26 style.
Maybe a picture of the body and fenders would help identify it.
1926 production started August 3rd 1925

I know the physics of balancing and how it applies to balance beads and the theory of how they work. I am NOT a tire professional nor an expert in Balance Bead applications, and given that the factors involved have changed, the specifics of what went wrong in your application are beyond any certain analysis at this point.
However, I can...

Which is better, the ruckstell shifter with the C like the clutch release fork or the fork with the two pins and the rollers on the pins?
I know the rollers on the pins can develop flat spots and stop rolling.
Last post
My opinion; Many prefer the one with pins, long nose, because it allows them to preselect which function the unit is going in to. The long nose one also has more value. The rollers are hardened so should not be an issue for a long time if worn ones are replaced.
