Power reduction at the starter

Hello everyone!
I had a starter retrofitted to my 2017 Touring by Duncan and Fraser/Bob Chantrell in Adelaide (12-volt system). It's a bit too stiff. Can I make the starter a little softer by reducing the voltage? If so, how can I reduce the voltage – just for the starter?
Thanks in advance for your helpful advice and

Hello Anton. Your mention of the Chantrell owned Duncan and Fraser car caught my attention. The D and F car bodies were built in Adelaide, South Australia. They are correctly described as tourers. The Americans use of touring is short for touring car.

All,
The Bay Area Horseless Carriage Club is stepping in to take over the “Bakersfield” swap meet. The event will be the same location and date, Price per space will be 65 dollars. More information will be forthcoming soon.
This is just a quick announcement moments after the vote to let everyone know Bakersfield Lives again.

Unfortunately, yes. There is no overnight camping in the spaces. That is a rule of the airfield. It was discussed with them and is a non-negotiable thing for them.
I will poke the people who control the website to post the available camping options.

I would suggest taking the manifold to a respected specialist welding shop for their opinion. Perhaps they will recommend one of the fixes suggested here, but which one? You have points in your favour. The crack is not under stress and is in the relatively coolest part of the manifold. In my limited experience with a welding service here, I would...

Mike makes perfect sense. There is no need for the dog chasing tail scenario of modification fix a previous modification and then having to repeat same over again. The stuff to do what has been done in the video is all available. There is no need to re-invent the wheel at every step.

Model T’s for WW2 scrap drive?

Was this a scrap drive or just a wrecking yard over run with T’s getting ready for the scrapper. I think I’ve seen this before but can’t remember where. I’m thinking it’s in the early 40’s or before. Looks like it was few other makes too but not many.

When I think about the remains of T’s from 09-13 that were scrapped during that period of time it makes me cringe. But that’s what happened to early V8’s too.

I have a lathe so I could cut it off at the break and make a dowel to fit inside, then braze up the joint.
Anybody tried this repair?

If you have access to someone with a TIG welding machine that can be repaired on the car. If you were close I would do it for you. I have a Miller Sychro-Wave SD welder. TIG welding does not produce any spatter, so no worries to surrounding area. That's not a difficult repair in the right hands.

Mark, see if a local machine shop can hone the lifter bores for you instead of reaming.
It has been my experiences that most chucking reamers need a minimum of about 2% of the diameter (-in this scenario about 8 thousandths) to keep the flutes loaded during the cutting process. Otherwise, you generally get chatter marks in the bore finish which...

Hi everyone,
I just finished installing new axle shafts in a Ruckstell differential and I’m wondering if I did right to use anti seize on the tapers. Evidently there has been some debate on the matter. I also installed new hubs. Any thoughts appreciated!

Harvey, it is a good idea to re-torque the axle nut after driving the car a bit. I always leave the hubcap off after pulling a wheel to reminds me to do the re-torque.

This one was recently re upholstered, looks like the covering is stapled in place, if so does this require pulling all the staples and then replacing them?

I don't think the line across the radiator on the touring is a fender brace. It appears to be attached to the radiator shell. I'd guess it's an accessory or owner added item for the purpose of retaining a lower radiator winter front to prevent the radiator from freezing in cold weather. It evidently isn't for mounting a license plate.

I need twelve of the 1926-27 rear curtain fasteners for the open car top irons. The current offerings (RH) fit if you don’t try to sandwich the side curtains in between.
The Model A Roadster has snaps (LH) that fasten to the windshield with smaller holes. The Model A open cars also use the same side curtain fasteners on the body as do our Model...

Just a reminder that the annual old car swap meet in Marrietta, Ohio is Sat March 7th starting at 7:00 am. Lots of vendors with lots of model T and A stuff. Brake pedal free play

I'm trying to establish if the cam portion of my brake pedal is worn enough to warrant replacing the pedal. The pedal stroke seems to be too short, and so the band needs to be overly tightened to compensate, at least it seems that way.
The pedal supports are new reproduction parts.
Question: How much pedal free play can be considered within...

I already started the welding and filing process on the pedal cam, but the last two posts present viable, inexpensive solutions. Thanks for those.

There is an interesting post in the Classifieds, and since myself, Steve, and a few others kinda hijacked John's ad, maybe it would be best to continue our discussions here.
So my next questions are; -in looking at pictures of Brad's (-and other's Boring Bar), it appears that the Engine Block's Cam bores become the 'datum' for aligning the...
Last post
A few comments: 1) If you are reaming the rear bushing to compensate for a front or center cam bearing bored off center, that's just plain bad practice. Replace the bearings or adjust your method of boring them to get them concentric with the OD. Reaming them to size in a bench vise is a good way to get them off center. They should always be bored...

Happy New Year's to all of you model t enthusiasts in or near Utah. A few of us are getting together for lunch on Saturday Jan 3rd at 1130 am at the Red Robbin in Murray Ut. Not planning to take my speedster this time as the weather looks to be not in favor of speedsters this week.
We're just hoping to meet a few other T people, talk about cars...

Definitely keep in touch Chuck ! It would be great to meet up with you folks ! And yes, there’s a lot of good Model T type roads in “Uta-Ho” !

Have a new Rootlieb speedster kit with flat dashboard. I want to add a rounded sheet metal cowl. Looking for sheet metal cowl, or plans or patterns. I would buy a metal cowl, or a set of plans or drawings.
If you have made one I would like to know how you did it or who did it, any information would be helpful. Best to contact me here.
thnx,...

With the firewall and rear mounting frame in place, use stiff cardboard to make a pattern that fits the two components. That will give you the shape you need to cut in the steel sheet. Custom made for a custom fitment. No need to follow a plan .

On the Top Support Irons that bolt to the Seat and support the Top Irons where the top pivots, how does the interior Upholstery wrap around this Support? Was it hand-stitched underneath, or ?? We are specifically working on a 1914 Touring, but any of the early open cars will likely be the same. Any pix??
TIA!!

I'm helping a friend with an original 36 Ford Sedan. He needs a new original type battery. I used to work at Ford Obsolete in Long Beach in my younger days, and as I recall the battery he needs is listed above. If those V8 boys are as picky as me, why can't he find the correct battery for his car?

Metallurgy may differ. Plates that have been bent and straightened will be somewhat hardened, which may affect their magnetic behavior. Soft steels magnetize easily, but will not hold magnetism well. Harder steels and steel alloys will hold magnetism. Field pieces uses in association with permanent magnets are usually very soft steel.

I am working on returning another barn fresh car to active duty but have struck a hurdle. No 1 cylinder was way down on compression. The valves were actually quite reasonable so the plan is to ream the guides to take new oversize stem one...

For half a century, members of the Rose City Model T Club have had access to Hand Cranked Coil Testers (HCCT) to tune up Model T coils. Nearly two decades ago, the club invested in a Strobo-Spark and it was a game changer. Today, the Electronically Cranked Coil Tester (ECCT) is available, which tests coils using dwell instead of amperage.

Karl, Some early 1909 Fords came with three tier sidelamps, and they are larger than a two tier sidelamp. I hope this helps. Russ Furstnow
