I am trying to help a friend find a particular 1922 Ford Touring Car, motor #6178671 which was purchased from Niles Motor Sales Co. in Alma, Michigan on July 1, 1922 by his grandfather. They have found the original bill of sale and registration for the vehicle and thought nothing more of it. I, however, being a bit of a history buff suggested that...

Thank you for the build dates information, I will share it with my friend. Also, both vehicles were listed on the original bill of sale as Touring models.

What year do you call your Model T ?

Question....
I purchased a Model T that was built in October of 1913 and it is titled as a 1913 car, but that is the same month they started the 1914 body style.
.
If it was your car and someone came up to you in the parking lot and asked what year your car was, would you go by year of manufacture or body style? If you read Michigan law related to...
Last post
Here in Florida, they asked for the serial number of my T. They immediately entered the year as 1927 and came up with a weight for the car (Florida has a tax based on weight). I guess some states know the engine numbers of a T.

12 volt starter

by

First post
I am starting a pie wagon project and plan to have interior lighting which will recuire 12 volt system. I have read the posts suggesting that running 12 volts to the starter is hard on the flywheel and ring gear. My question can I have my 6 volt starter converted to 12 volts and if so would the converted starter be as hard on the fly wheel?
Last post
Why not just buy a 12 volt battery and run a separate circuit for your lighting? Cheaper than replacing a starter. You probably have a charger already, so you only need a battery.

Curious whether any early 1909 Tourings were detailed with Black accents the way the Red Touring was. This would be seen on the fender and body welts, as well as the door frames. Hard to tell from some original photos where even the red body pin stripes are difficult to see.

I have a frame that appears to be a '25 ( only 2 rivets on on hand brake pawl ) It has a serial number C726397, does the C indicate Canadian? Also the front crossmember is located on top of the side rail instead of above, and the side rail is stepped to allow for this. Can anybody shed some light on this ?
Last post
Thanks, yes I am starting to think it may have had some changes to suit some ones needs. Frame is super nice condition with only mild surface rust. It may end up under one of my cars.

Were these plugs used for military? or some other application ?

thanks for the help, Bob
Last post
The plug is typical Ediswan type, with the dual in-line nubs to twist and lock in the socket. Bayonet style.
These plugs could be had in rubber (plastic today) plug or metal banded.
The metal band holds up better, but cost more in the day. Used mostly for plugging to sockets for trouble lamps or dash lamps.

Bryan,
If your title says 1913, I wouldn't go to the SOS and ask that they change it. That said, Michigan usually titles a car by the Model year, not the year of manufacture. Being built in 1913 your car probably has both '13 and '14 parts --- as time passes you will become more educated as to the unique features of your Model T. If the engine is...

I agree it would be better without the modern hardware, but you can easily replace the Phillips screws and put on a brass cap nut in place of the hex nut.
While a mirror on a Model T may not be rock steady, it doesn't have to be. As long as it shows you what's behind you, you don't need to see the details.

“Let us not forget that the Model T was one of the most customized cars of it's time.... often beginning soon after it rolled out of the factory. I consider my car's equipment to be part of it's history and have...

On my “day 2” 1919 centerdoor I’d buy a pair of bud vases and go to a 1919 Hobby Lobby to purchase plastic flowers. As it already came with an NH ‘straight thru’ carb, I’d probly spend a dollar on an earlier aluminum intake manifold. Also in ‘day 2’ I’d find a $12 Waukesha Ricardo Head...

Ignacio, Lots of options. I have built five speedsters over the years. Cannot remember all the details of all of them. On one, I raised the bottom bracket enough that the upper (sideways) bolt went just over the top of the frame rail. I bent and bolted a flat steel (strap iron/bar stock) from one of the bottom bolt holes (the back one as I recall)...

Hi all, Back again after the Texas armageddon freeze. I've spent the last few weeks recovering and finally getting down to rewiring the house for solar critical load panel and a generator for hurricane season.

23 Roadster..Does the coil box lid secure the coils in any way? I don't have a lid for mine, and had a coil loose connection at the bottom contact. That made me wonder if a lid would have prevented this from happening. That being said, does anyone have a slant style coil box lid for a 23 roadster? Thanks..Tommy.

I assume we are looking for early Fords, but do not limit yourself to Model T Folrds. My choice would be a Model K, perhaps a late production one. My other choice would be the original engine from Model T number one, for the original engine was replaced soon after assembly.

Danny, Since you don't have to adjust idle after you get it dialed in you could simply attach a wire or other method to prevent it from rotating until you find one of the barrel retainers. I didn't realize those round barrel types are so fragil.
I have plenty other things to do until parts get here. But not long and she will be on the road!

Doesn't address a 1921 Touring specifically, but these may be somewhat helpful:
Regarding keeping the backrest spring pack in position, it is suspended by straps that are tacked either to the wood support slats (for cars that have them), or from the upper tack rail (for cars where the spring pack sits directly on the metal seat back).

When this forum went to this new format years ago, one of the pro's of it was to be able to post pics of just about any size with no problems, as opposed to the old forum. Steve Jelf used to always promote that.
Seems lately tho, about 80% of the time I try to post a pic, of usual MB size , it gets tossed out because the PIXELS for Height and/or...

I like it but will not purchase one. I don't play golf and I also suspect that getting parts would be a nightmare.
The Chinese manufacturer used the Ford name in the advertisement, but I doubt that Ford can do much unless somebody from the USA buys one. I think that Ford could require that the U S purchaser buy a license. I'm not a lawyer, but I...

Would a Klaxon 18B Delco-Remy make a good ahooga horn for a 26 Touring? Time period correct?
Thanks,

By the way, thanks for the link. Wish I knew parts were available. Would have bought the gaskets as that was a little work. I bought some FelPro gasket material which is fairly thick but worked fine. Used a leather punch for the bolt holes.

I’m still fairly new with model Ts. I just purchased a 1915 roadster. I’m probably going to need to put a radiator on it as it has the original round tube on it. It’s not in the greatest shape and it probably leaks. I haven’t put water in it yet as the car has been sitting idle for About 49 years. Hard to believe I put gas in it and it started but...

14 and 15 radiators will interchange, but are not the same as Keith pointed out. A 15 radiator uses a radiator round tube bent to a slight V for the head light wire. I've also noted on two different 15 radiators, the factory moved the priming wire hole down, and slightly to the left. Why is anyones guess. Sometime in 1914, Ford stopped using the...

Before you get started be sure an authenticate some of the versions that currently exist. There are many differences in the old photos of the original and the museum pieces. Seats, side lights, headlights, exhaust etc. Also there are pictures of #1 that could help as well

Carb runs great on new engine start, but dribbling a little fuel from the passage screws. They were a little loose but don’t want to snug them in until I ask. Not tapered and nothing to seal on the lip. I am thinking a touch of pipe dope maybe. 91CEE119-B52D-4B5E-8127-80967E763A7D.jpeg 8417E65E-E303-416E-9FB9-80FA983AC312.jpeg

I understand that but the burr needs to knocked down also or it doesn’t have a flat surface for the edge of the small collar on the screw to seat against and seal. I deburred the threaded hole surface and snugged it down and all is fine. The burr was keeping it from seating 100%.

Looks like the castings may have never been buffed and polished except for the face. Take them off the car and give them a good buff and polish job. They may need more than just Rouge and a polish though. Some emery and a sewn wheel might be in order 1st.

A Model F would be nice, say a 1904 with a rear seat unit.. A 2 cylinder auto with a strong engine over the Model A, similar to the AC engine, I assume. Not as many around as the NRS series. Eligible for the one and two cylinder tours. Anything 1904 or older are in a special class.

Henry Ford was fascinated with watches as a child. He learned to take them apart and reassemble them at an early age.
Georges Frederic Roskopf developed “La Prolétaire” (People's Watch) in 1867, intended to be affordable by the masses.
I suppose it's possible that young Henry would have known about him and his watch, n'est pas?

I used plywood for the 1919 on my car deck instead of using the wood slats as original. That was over 30 years ago as it was a piece of cabinet grade plywood. I’ll bet Ford would have used a single sheet of plywood if it was cheaper and readily available. Anyway it’s held up well.

Be sure to get a coil that is for points ignition, not for electronic ignition, as the Amperage of the coil for electronic ignition is too high and will fry the contact breaker points.
As you are using an old distributor i asume your car is still 6Volts, most 6Volt coils are not available for electronic ignitions.
If your car is 12 Volts be sure...
