It has been dribbling out of the carburetor recently and I suspected it was the needle housing for the needle valve on the inlet. The top of the 27 Canadian touring needs the 2” wide straps replaced. Also It also doesn’t fit very well, the drivers side is not tight, the passenger side seems fine.
I understand to replace the straps will require pulling the staples.
Before I take on the project, I think it would be best to follow the top manufacturers instructions.

Ideally, you should not have to remove the entire top to replace the straps. Just pull back the top material in the areas where the straps are attached. Then remove the staples, (I hate staples), and sneak in the new straps, pull them taut, then tack them to the bows, (or use staples if you want to).

Couldn't locate anything using the forum search for my concerns...
Was looking for some pictures (and guidance) of other's T's showing valves properly seated and without head installed.

On the last start up, I noticed coolant bubbling out from the rear head and knew I needed to replace the head gasket.

I was watching a video on youtube of a father/daughter rebuilding the valves. He applied a gritty paste to the valves and had her turn them back and forth several times. I'm guessing this was grinding down the irregular highs/lows to reseat them....

Has anyone had experience with using a cordless (20V) tire inflator on high pressure Model T tires? Not looking for the kind that plug into a cigarette lighter. Rather, ones with an 18 - 24V Li-ion battery.

I have a Milwaukee and it works well on all my tires some large and some hi pressure, I should of bought it years ago as it sure makes it easy in tight places. It has memory settings and auto shut off.

John is spot on, again. I have great respect for those who do their utmost to save/use original parts, especially if they are from early cars. I have yet to buy a reproduction exhaust manifold for any of my 20 s T's because they are cast differently at the rear when compared to originals.

This Heinze coil box came in for lid repair. There was a chunk of wood missing on one side. I also noticed one of the contact springs was loose, then broke off.

Model T switch tumblers were made from pot metal that often swells and gives problems after the last 100 years.
Add a bit of rust on the steel parts and it gets stiff.
Careful lubrication and working it can sometimes bring it back around, be careful not to break it.

If the tumbler does need replacing it is not a quick / easy job but possible.

I had a starter retrofitted to my 2017 Touring by Duncan and Fraser/Bob Chantrell in Adelaide (12-volt system). It's a bit too stiff. Can I make the starter a little softer by reducing the voltage? If so, how can I reduce the voltage – just for the starter?

All my srater equippef T's run on 6 volt standard systems.
It helps that my son works in the solar power industry and he makes my battery leads, probably a bit on the overkill side.
The biggest problem is purchasing 6 volt, 18 watt festoon bulbs for the indicator lamps I use! I think I now have another lifetime supply in my stash.

Mike makes perfect sense. There is no need for the dog chasing tail scenario of modification fix a previous modification and then having to repeat same over again. The stuff to do what has been done in the video is all available. There is no need to re-invent the wheel at every step.

I have a 22 T with a 26/27 Engine & Transmission. Has Ruckstell & large drum RMB installed. Engine starts right up and is strong, but The car has always struggled to move. Low & reverse needed high rpm and often will stall, especially in reverse.

Was this a scrap drive or just a wrecking yard over run with T’s getting ready for the scrapper. I think I’ve seen this before but can’t remember where. I’m thinking it’s in the early 40’s or before. Looks like it was few other makes too but not many.

Looks like a Rootlieb kit to me. Speedsters are worth 7-12K for the most part. Use that as a start to determine value.

On this one, wheels add to value, as does the Ruckstel. Looks like a real nice paint job. Cannot see much else.

I just saw a 26-27 T roadster pickup for sale in Longview, Texas by a salvage yard on Facebook marketplace. Price $2500.00. Ad states no title, no motor or transmission, and I do not see top irons or bows. Picture is not a close up, but it doesn't look like a rust bucket and fenders don't look all bent up.

My 27 touring has a crack / bend in the the lower section of the the front bow. Wondering is I should attempt to repair on the car?
I have a lathe so I could cut it off at the break and make a dowel to fit inside, then braze up the joint.
Anybody tried this repair?

If you have access to someone with a TIG welding machine that can be repaired on the car. If you were close I would do it for you. I have a Miller Sychro-Wave SD welder. TIG welding does not produce any spatter, so no worries to surrounding area. That's not a difficult repair in the right hands.

After reading all the responses and thinking back at what I had done, I went out to my shop and carefully unbolted the shifter and pulled it out slowly while trying to see where the fork was in relation to the collar groove. Sure enough! The fork was on the right side of the collar groove. No wonder I only had one gear. Works now...

Doing a full rebuild on my 22 centerdoor engine. Everything shows minimal wear so i ordered standard adjustable lifters. The problem is they wont go into the block. They seem to be one or two thousandths too big. Suggestions? Is there a reamer out there that would work for this?

Mark, see if a local machine shop can hone the lifter bores for you instead of reaming.

It has been my experiences that most chucking reamers need a minimum of about 2% of the diameter (-in this scenario about 8 thousandths) to keep the flutes loaded during the cutting process. Otherwise, you generally get chatter marks in the bore finish which...

Should the bushing go that deep into the bracket? If so, you may get a better fit on non worn section of the shaft closer to the pitman arm by fitting the bush flush with the end of the bracket. Either that or using a longer bush.

I just finished installing new axle shafts in a Ruckstell differential and I’m wondering if I did right to use anti seize on the tapers. Evidently there has been some debate on the matter. I also installed new hubs. Any thoughts appreciated!

Harvey, it is a good idea to re-torque the axle nut after driving the car a bit. I always leave the hubcap off after pulling a wheel to reminds me to do the re-torque.

I have two glass spare headlight reflectors. They are both the same diameter, but one is thicker and heavier than the other. Since the headlights are John Brown, I would assume the lighter one would be what was used. I'm not willing to remove the reflectors from either one of my '13s to find out!

Put the car back together and when I checked the oil prior to starting the car it had oil in it (I installed a dipstick years ago).

Hey guys I need more advice. 1926 Coupe here.

Problem:

So I have new triple gear bushings with 10 Thousands thrust.
The driven gear is pressed flush with the brake drum shaft.
New transmission shaft from Lang's.
Trans shaft installed as far as it will go and torqued to spec.
When I took it apart it had the three thrust washers for the clutch...

I know the 2nd owner started a partial restoration on Daisy in the mid/late 60's after being stored since 1935.
Cleaning up the wood on her, while the firewall is original, the hood boards are replacements built by Syverson Cabinet, from their Des Plaines location they vacated mid 60's.

Working on getting some anti tarnish coverings made for my car and a few friends. May even make these to sell. So far we have worked out fitted headlight covers for 13 14 models (earlier models will come soon) hub cap covers and speedo covers. Pototyping of the rad and cowl lamps are progressing. I'm pretty sure that that the covers would retard brass tarnish and greatly reduce reflector tarnishing. Applying and buffing plain Carnauba wax would probably delay brass tarnishing as well as anything, and covering the waxed parts with well-fitting covers would offer further protection by keeping dust, moisture, bird emissions, and busy fingers...

My '26 speedster came with a low head. I have a high head in my stash. It looks like the high head has larger water jackets (better cooling?). What would your suggestions be on which would be best and why?

The high head does have a larger water capacity, but the low head has a slightly high compression ratio (i.e. smaller combustion chamber).

This is what I saw listed on TBay. Didn't know if it was true or not. May be why the guy who originally put it together used the low head. Is this why the 22hp vs. 20hp? The low head is already painted, so I...

When ordering new tops from Classtique, on their order form, roll up rear panels are listed as an option on most ant year they supply. They sure are nice providing “ flow thru ventilation” on any touring car!

Dropped off a 1914 Windshield Frame along with the brass Glass Channel to mount it in. The shop calls me to inform that their Plate Glass is 3/16 thick however the Safety Glass is 1/4 thick. The option they gave is to have Plate Glass cut and then tempered however he also felt like that was against the law to use tempered in the Windshield...

I have never seen 3/16 plate glass in original windscreens in Australian bodied T's. My 1915 Canadian sourced tourer had 1/4 glass and the brass channel. Other spare frames I have found and traded were all to take 1/4 glass. Is this a Canadian thing?
If 3/16 glass was mounted in our components without bedding tape, it would rattle and leak water...

Hello. I can't figure out some details about the seat assembly kit from Cubels for a 1915 Roadster. I would be grateful if some of you could help me with these questions:

1. See picture #1. Are the lower extensions of these seatback vertical posts supposed to sit on top of the seat riser cutout, as shown in the picture, or is it supposed to go...

The one in left corner at the rear looks to me to be the one possibly for on the right side where the door latch goes. From the angle it looks like the whole back section is too high for the body metal. Unless you don't have the tin against the sill at the bottom. The part on the floor looks like it might the top for the back panel.

I sourced this unit for a guy in India who has a 1915 T and wants to add a starter, but also wants everything period correct.
I got it from Dodge Riedy who got it to me here in Idaho a few days ago.
The bendix was completely stuck at first. After a bit of coaxing with penetrating oil, dunk tank and carb cleaner, I got the bendix working again....

Wondered how fan was fitted, on Jack’s the large gear has pulley for fan belt. Instruction page notes T fan bracket remains in place.

This fabric item was between the front spring and the frame member on my ‘13. It appears to be long grain top material. The 1915 parts book shows an identical item, I’m wondering if anyone knows the purpose of the four small brass rivets ? IMG_3733.jpeg

Hey, can anyone in the group share the known measurements of the Model T transmission early Brake Drum Top-Hat bearing? I see some of them given by Benson Archives parts listing pages, but would prefer to have actual measurements, even if a little worn.

Would like to communicate with anyone knowlegable with the late Model T (and early Model A) innertube valve stems:
Schrader 777, 888, 6300
Dill VS6, VS74 , VS 74, TR 16 VS 74, and VS-74A
Trying to understand the transition from Model T (wood spoke wheel), through the late Model T (wire spoke wheel), to the early Model A.

I reinstalled my magnets and I am using the KR Wilson jig. Reading over the comments on this forum regarding this issue I see people say they shoot for an overall variance of +/- 20 thousands. I can't find any mention regarding the magnet height relative to the trans shaft. The book says anywhere between 13/16 and 53/64. Is this measurement not...

Unless the clutch hub has worn the shaft, losing its press fit, the center shaft need not be replaced.
A light facing with a tool post grinder in a lathe (same way a crank flange is squared up) will take care of any slight...

I don't think the line across the radiator on the touring is a fender brace. It appears to be attached to the radiator shell. I'd guess it's an accessory or owner added item for the purpose of retaining a lower radiator winter front to prevent the radiator from freezing in cold weather. It evidently isn't for mounting a license plate.

I need twelve of the 1926-27 rear curtain fasteners for the open car top irons. The current offerings (RH) fit if you don’t try to sandwich the side curtains in between.

The Model A Roadster has snaps (LH) that fasten to the windshield with smaller holes. The Model A open cars also use the same side curtain fasteners on the body as do our Model...

I'm trying to establish if the cam portion of my brake pedal is worn enough to warrant replacing the pedal. The pedal stroke seems to be too short, and so the band needs to be overly tightened to compensate, at least it seems that way.
The pedal supports are new reproduction parts.

Question: How much pedal free play can be considered within...

A few comments: 1) If you are reaming the rear bushing to compensate for a front or center cam bearing bored off center, that's just plain bad practice. Replace the bearings or adjust your method of boring them to get them concentric with the OD. Reaming them to size in a bench vise is a good way to get them off center. They should always be bored...

Have a new Rootlieb speedster kit with flat dashboard. I want to add a rounded sheet metal cowl. Looking for sheet metal cowl, or plans or patterns. I would buy a metal cowl, or a set of plans or drawings.

With the firewall and rear mounting frame in place, use stiff cardboard to make a pattern that fits the two components. That will give you the shape you need to cut in the steel sheet. Custom made for a custom fitment. No need to follow a plan .

On the Top Support Irons that bolt to the Seat and support the Top Irons where the top pivots, how does the interior Upholstery wrap around this Support? Was it hand-stitched underneath, or ?? We are specifically working on a 1914 Touring, but any of the early open cars will likely be the same. Any pix??
