1923 Touring Car Body Hardware???
by
George Hand » Thu Jan 20, 2022 2:43 pm
Awhile back I bought a '23 Touring Car in pieces, the body sheet metal is currently farmed out along with the wood, I need to come up with the hardware for the reassembly. I plan on asking my friends here questions to get me to that goal. For starters the catches for the doors have 4 flat head machine screws, my pile of parts only had 1 out of 12,...

Quick Change Transmission Bands

JBog » Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:44 am
First post
I bought some Guinn wooden transmission bands to replace my worn out cotton bands. I've never changed the bands before, but I know that my 20' engine has the quick change bands. Do I really need to remove the hog's head, or can I replace the bands through the transmission inspection area?
Last post
Thanks! I guess I can see what happens through the inspection door and if it doesn't work out just pull the hogshead.

Does anyone have the correct measurements for the side board width on a model TT stakebed?

I found the attached to be of great value. It came from a Model A site but the earliest AA appears to have used the same as the TT arrangement.

Hello!
As I am attempting to fish out a washer from the transmission I found one of my triple gears has a pretty significant rock on the pin. The other two gears feel good.
The transmission was rebuilt about 10 years ago (per previous owner) and runs pretty quiet. I had no idea that there was this issue.
Soooo, where do I go from here? I...

My failure happened on a trip to Napa.
The sound in the trans is like a rattle can paint spray, especially on deceleration. The wobbling gears will end up grinding off the lip of the reverse drum. Ask me how I know....

If you have been following my blog, then you know what I'm up to.
If not, then here are some photos. I am in the process of making drawings for the body sills for my Centerdoor. Using photos and measurements taken from my original wood pieces and pieces owned by Terry Miller, I'll show you briefly what I've done. I'm not ready to show final...
Last post
Having received some rough pieces from another Centerdoor that is long gone, I’m readjusting my sill thickness to 1 1/4 inches instead of 1 5/16th inches.
I’ll probably cut new wood to the larger size and creep up to the smaller size. I’m not sure how much of a difference 1/16th inch makes over all. I do know the floorboards are 5/8ths inch...

I used TopFlite fuel resistant model airplane paint from a local hobby shop. It is the only thing I have found that has survived the toxic Minnesota gas formula. My Model A carb has lasted 8 years, still solid. The Rustoleum on the engine pan underneath turned to goop long ago.

I'll get straight to the point. When I purchased my 1916 touring it had come with a set of top irons and bows. Assuming they were correct for the car, they sat in the corner for a while. Tonight, I looked over them more carefully as I am planning on doing the top soon, I realized they may not be correct for my car after...

Well I have decided on making my own panel. I will have to get a good 4x3 or 4x4 piece of 18 gauge steel to do this, there is a place in town I will check with this week. I still have to figure out where to take it to have the ribs put in and what to do with the hump.

If I were a first-time observer of the diagram and chart below it, without the benefit of the discussion that preceded it all, I would have the following questions:
1. In the Venn diagram the intersection of the three screw head types is labeled 'slotted', the diagram title Early Ford Screw Heads but including the Model T era and US Made Fords...

My cars you do not have to adjust the mixture when at idle or cruising speed. Are the balls seating properly? I would try stuffing a rag or taping around the out side where the intake of the balls are to see if it will idle.

A while back I posted a question about sending a couple of Ts to Alaska. The cars were from a good friend who passed away. One of the cars sold, but this 1922 pickup is coming to Alaska. I thought folks might like to see it. It has Hasslers and a Ruckstell and is in very nice shape. The other car was a 13 touring in similar shape.

Yes, the truck was posted on the for sale list a while back. The 13 was bought by someone in California. In a way, I am glad. I would have had to scramble to find storage for two more Ts. Though, a touring car would have been nice to fit the whole family. The Speedster project takes up a lot of room in the shop right now…

What seems to be the best quality rattle can paint on the market? I've been using the pro grade Rustoleum with fairly good results, but wondered if there is something better out there.

I’m finely getting around to replacing the wooden bows on my 27 Roadster. Looking back through the Forum I’m getting 3 different measurements. Any idea which is correct? I bought the top kit so maybe there’s enough material to make the up difference if go for either the long or short bow measurements ?????

Thanks Dan. Yes I understand that 2 1/2” slides inside the Iron itself, just wasn’t clear on the exposed part of the Bow.

I'm trying to find a 13 tooth pinion gear for a Ruckstell rebuild. All the vendors seem to be running out of pinion gears. Does anybody know the story about what's going on with this? I was ok when the shortages were just about TP, but not this!

A friend of mine came upon a Eifel motor and transmission that was made by Ford in Germany in the late 30’s. Anyone here know anything about this Eifel motor, or is there anyone that can put some sort of price tag on it?
Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

In Europese countries cars were and are taxed by the governments through some or other way of calculation which involves the horsepower or the engine capacity.
So there has been a tendency for lighter cars with smaller engines or reducing the output, while in the U.S. there was a trend towards ever bigger engines (There's no substitute for cubic...

How well does the head lamp removal tool (that is listed in Snyder's and Lang's catalogs) work.
I do note that one has a T-6575-T number and the other lists it as 1243. There is a significant difference in price. I wonder whether they are the same tool.

Here is an image of one that has the part I am missing:

Hi all,
Has anybody tried to repair the broken window crank shaft on the 26-27 Tudor? I need to fix driver's side rear crank and passenger side front crank. I got a repair kit from Langs and I've been looking on line and haven't found anything on how to redo it. Thanks,
John

John: I think that's odd too. I asked Lang's and they said the roller is fixed to the arm, not a roller really. I wonder if anyone ever modified one to roll and if so, how that worked out. jb

I am working on the chassis of my newly acquired '23 Model T and want to tidy up my emergency and Rocky Mountain brakes. I'm not sure the control rods to each are in the right orientation and I'd like to find any reference materials that would help me see how they SHOULD be installed.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

I know it does not look like the original ones but has anyone used this? They are very reasonable.
You have to scroll to the bottom of the page.

Buckeye is one of the few places to buy that regulator farther down the page, as it is only used on early 6 Volt alternators.
They are easily destroyed by a battery charger.
Langs did have them a few years ago and may still have some.

May I ask. What are the thread sizes for the OF float valve caps?
Are the caps one or two hole cross-drilled for bowl venting?

I haven't bought the kit yet, I just figured I should...

There are three dimensional pressings involved in forming the body of the 26-7 tanks which would demand suitable dies and press to manufacture them.{read capital investment}
The round and oval tanks can be rolled up using existing equipment in any good sheetmetal workshop.

I’ve got this Stewart model C speedometer that works fine but the numbers are rust stained. The number decal also is starting to peel off.

I’ve used the “Paint” application on my windows desktop to create and print replica decals for my airplane. It has an option to use an inch scale with 0.01” resolution, and prints out very accurately. I don’t have the number offhand, but Avery makes a decal paper for inkjet printers that has a clear adhesive overlay to protect the printing.

I have read a lot of the disinformation about Henry Ford building the T to run on multi fuels. I do know the ford tractor could be run on kerosene once the engine was started on gas and warmed up.
The real question is can a stock T...
