Hello everyone, it's Randy. The Ford Model T was built throughout the late 1900s, the entire 1910s, and much of the 1920s decade. This means that there were Ts built during the First World War. Were there any Model Ts used during WW1? If so, what were they used for? Were they used as supply trucks, staff cars, troop transports? Thank you for your...

Hello all,

Sorry for my inexperience but how do I use this brake lining rivet tool?
. In the picture I think 1 is the correct rivet punch? I don't know what the other punches do.
. Item 2 in the picture, that is for drilling and counter sinking the lining right? Mark it with a marker from the back of the brake, drill it through from the back of the lining...

I discovered that there is a little ridge near the bottom of the tool that makes it not flop around on a vise. That helped a lot. Some of the rivets went on better than others. I have one completed. I did only a few rivets at a time to make sure the holes aligned. I marked about 3 holes at a time and drilled them then riveted 2 leaving one free so...

It is time to put the brass trim on the firewall. How to bend the pictured sold brass half oval at a 90 degree? I have read several places to do not heat it that it will break. I am thinking of just putting it into a vise and bending it, will that work? Is there a better way?
Last post
I heated it cooled it 3 times before bending with a MAPP gas torch. I never saw it turn red. I just got it 'real hot'. I notched it once, bent the two parts together until they kissed then notched again to get to 90 degrees.

Like you say it all works. Depends on the application.. The lower the grit the harder it is to turn. When doing mains or rods, I use medium grit and don't bolt things down too tight at first. Follow the directions and be sure to add oil frequently. A couple applications doesn't hurt. Smiley face.

I would expect to see improved economy and more consistent response to the driver's throttle, carburetor adjustment, and spark timing inputs... in short, a smoother, sweeter-running engine. Torsional vibration would likely be reduced in both bandwidth and intensity.

Zinc scuff plates

Will Brown » Thu Sep 02, 2021 3:46 pm
First post
My early '26 roadster came with what I believe to be zinc door sill plates. They have some minor damage. I would like to repair what is missing on one of them and fix the crack on the other. Can this be done? Also, what is the best way to restore these sill plates? Glass bead sandblasting or would another method be better?
Last post
Can't help on welding cracks in zinc, as fumes from zinc are very dangerous to your health.
On mine, just left the few bumps and cracks as 'patina'. The repro parts in aluminum don't look good to me at all. So keep your originals original.
Just buffed the surfaces of the plates on the buffing wheel, then a coat of wax, provided a nice sheen that...

David, I take your point about the thread starting somewhat deeper in the lug nuts. My concern with the A model nuts was that the length of thread in the nuts would not be as long as a T nut, and so it may bottom out on the stud before engaging on the hub centre.

The key to using the second pump is the type of chuck you put on it. The pump has no check valve, and uses the valve in the tube stem to do that job. That means you have to use a chuck with no center pin, so it will allow the valve to close between strokes.

If you need to have threads on the end why not use a piece of all thread or a cut off bolt and weld it on the end of the handle. That way you don't need to weld a square shaft and then turn it down to round and thread it.

Hi all,
I'm a newby in Australia so while I've had my head in deep research for 6 months I am compelled to ask what some may deem as stupid questions...
I bought a 26 touring cutoff as a pile of completely disassembled parts. Probably 4-5 different cars in the body alone.
The assembly of the chassis and body is progressing well, and I am now...

Have you considered joining the NSW Model T Club? There might be someone in the club who has a 26/27 engine they could sell you.
I'm in the Parramatta area. I've got a 26 Tourer and a 24 Tudor you're welcome to have look at once the lockdown eases up.

My 26 T had the transmission rebuilt many years ago. I'm finally getting to the restoration. I would occasionally crank the engine over the years. Now I had it on jacks and when I crank a wheel turns. Off the jacks and it won't roll. Something is locking it up in gear. Any suggestions on cause and how to fix? Thanks in advance. :)

My '22 touring has been in storage for a few years and I have been cleaning her up and noticed that one of the Firestone tires is showing a small crack running from rim to tread on side of tire.
Is this normal, and is this something to be worried about?
I have had the tires for about 7 years and the T has few miles put on her since I got her.

Pulled the Fordor into the shop today, and adjusted the valve clearances. I also resealed the intake and exhaust manifolds with new one piece copper rings from the land down undah. FTRS makes a great product. I added a slight chamfer to the manifold ports. That really helped getting the rings to seat into the ports.

TT rear axle oil level?

I am working on a TT. The truck is claimed to be an '18, but is a mix of other years.
The fill plug is just slightly below the axle tube.
That seems like the level would be too high. When compared to a non truck axle.
What is the correct level? Thanks.

The TT needs to be filled all the way to the bottom of that rear plug. Leaving it lower like is appropriate for T car rear ends is not appropriate for the TT rear end. Also don’t overlook the importance of the seal at the back of the driveshaft tube...

I'd think putting the lever in neutral (with the clutch stuck) would have the car in high, and that forcefully rocking it back and forth would probably unstick the clutch. If not, 1. Check all linkage. 2. I would suggest getting the engine in running order, if it isn't already, then place the rear of the car on secure stands and start and run the...

They were recalled (Chevrolets), but a few are in private hands. The cooling fins were solid copper bar rings with cast iron poured over them. Since they did not inoculate as they poured the iron, the rings came loose in a short time in operation and cracked the cylinders. Interesting story from times past.

So I was digging around in some boxes of parts that came with my car. Found something that gives me hope.
Two babbitt washers and other real axel parts. Makes me think that bronze washers were put in place. But I have trust issues and I'm going to pull the rear apart and look for myself.

I test everyone I get for personal amusement. Maybe 1 in 50 pass. Then go in the trash.

Pistons are cheaper than heads. I'd be inclined to follow Mr. Prus's advice and modify the pistons. I'd want to avoid taking much material off, and I'd want all pistons to match in weight and contour. A different style set of pistons might be a solution to consider.Your block may have been decked, and you could have a rod that is longer than it...

Wonder if anyone here on the Forum is using a Motor Inventions aluminum Airburner in place of the Ford Hot Air Pipe. Last post
What I am familiar with has a cast aluminum body with a round ball enlarged area @ the disk. The screw is to set the spring tension for the movement of the disk. It is actually designed to be an automatic choke. I think the ideal thing to do is to remove the auto choke feature disk.

It began in 1962 when I purchased my first Model T, a 1926 Tudor sedan, fully restored, for $ 475. It was my daily driving car in Seattle. Shortly after the Model T came Floyd Clymer’s book “Henrys Wonderful Model T”, which taught me about coupelets. It became a dream of mine to own one someday.

There used to be an elementary science class experiment wherein hot water was poured into a beaker, then the beaker was plugged with a rubber stopper and immersed in cold water. The water in the beaker would break into a boil due to the pressure drop. A Model T cooling system is actually a pressure system in that it has about 14 psi of atmospheric...
