Hi all,
I took this off my new 27 tudor. I haven't seen any example of the upper housing anywhere. Does anyone know what it's from or what it does? I'm guessing it's a stoplight, but again, I've not seen any other examples. It has a bracket that holds it on to the tea cup clear glass light. Thanks in advance.

I just sold one at the Luray Swap in Oct. Was complete, with lens, but also was a bit more deLuxe with a blue glass 'eye' above the nickel rim. It glowed too when the stop lamp was lit..

Hello all
Thinking about having my model t cylinder head shaved to increase the compression it has stock pistons could someone tell me how much could be cut and be safe or would it be worth the time and expense to do so.Thanks Harold
Last post
Harold, its not just the compression but equally important is the combustion chamber. Z heads have a combustion chamber that is much like the one Ford settled on for the Model A to increase its performace.

4 gallons an hour? Darn, that sounds anemic for a hot engine, depending how you're feeding it and how hard you push it. I think that's what I spend, maybe a hair less but not much, on my slightly fast but not Fronty-engined '15 touring... I may be wrong, but yeah, I can get more than that out of my gravity fed stock system...

I hooked up a MAG horn 2 my 26 Model T. I connected the horn's body to ground and the terminal to a switch and then to the Magneto. When I ran the car on a MAG and turned on the horn, the engine died. What am I doing wrong? Is the horn taking too much of the Magneto power?

Ok so I’ve decided to run a model a manifold setup and carb on my TT. The manifold kit is on its way and I have a Model A Marvel carb ready to rebuild. My block is the later 27 with no hole between cylinders 2 and 3. I would like to set it up to run the throttle off of the column rod so I’m just wondering what others have done to rig something up....

Here is a photo of what I did to use the over the top linkage on a Winfield Carb. My engine was originally a Vaporizer. When I bought the car it had a Model A Zenith using this setup that I modified for the Winfield. For the Zenith choke a couple of 1/4 drive universals were braised into the choke/adjuster rod.

That tool may work ok on babbit bushings but it requires a lot of pressure to cut the brass bushings by hand. I face most of the material off in the lathe and then install the bushing and sneak up on the fit with the tool shown in a drill.

An other(may be stupid) early magnéto coil question.

During the rebuild of a few early and later magneto coil ring rebuilds I found out that the center of the coils on the older coils is about 1/2 earlier than on the late coils.
Just wondering why this difference?

I didn't think about this, but it's true, the stator coils on an early 09 would be 1/2 wide, where the later ones would be 9/16 ... a pre-2500 T would definitely be within that 1/2 coil width era.

Today my friend Bob Barrett went on to his final rest. He passed away on Sunday December 6 after a long illness.

We keep losing our legends... Bob, you will be missed by a LOT of us. And when you see my dad up there, tell him I love him, and thanks. ;-)
BTW - I still have the Pierce tail light. It is a dear treasure to me, and plan on using it on the speedster project.
We'll miss you for a long time, sir!

This morning I checked the website and found that the new tyre is now listed.

I assume the £0 price means not that it's free, but that it's not yet for sale. But listing it on the website must mean it will soon be available.

I'm OK with their tread... it's a composite of what was available of the finest 3000 mile tires ... If I can get an honest good 30x3 akin to the NZ (and earlier) Non-Skids (which I have run to the cords) I will be more than thrilled. Hope they run well on dirt gravel roads...
Anyway, I saw that and I am almost drooling on my keyboard. :D

As I was changing the oil, brass pieces fell out of the drain.
After calling an mechanic, it turns out I had a loose triple gear. Pulled the engine out, to find and fix the damages.
However it seems all 3 of the triple bushing failed in a similar fashion
:?: Why the bushings failed in such a way? :?:

Sintered bronze is a fickle mistress... it's a wonderful material until it work hardens, then it's an if and when proposition - I have some machinery that dates back to the late 1800s that is as amazing as when it was machined, running bronze castings and bushings... I also have some WW2 era stuff that, similarly, you would think is 21st century....

What is the original shaft diameter of the crank at the pulley? I understand that there were 2 sizes of cranks.
Thank you

Jerry, I did say that the crankshaft diameter at the pulley was the same for all years. I did not consider the early waterpump cars. The pulley at the fan belt information was given for general information to all readers, some of who are new to the Model T. Sometimes things get lost in word of mouth over the years.

Thanks,

My sister found a copy of this invoice on a Facebook page about Milwaukee:
Ford Invoice 1917.png
The car was ordered on Aug. 2, 1917, appears to have been built about August 13, and delivered Sept. 8.
There is a Heiser Ford in the Milwaukee area today, I assume a successor company?
At any rate, a fun read.

The bottom part of the T is there, but faint.
The engine assembly date is Wednesday, August 29, 1917. The car was shipped ten days later. It was made almost a month after Mister Schlitt ordered it. We would call it a 1918 model.

When I pulled it out, the hogshead was off. I'm hoping to do it all in one...

Never a problem with steering column and firewall in place.

Getting it running and getting it ready for road use are two entirely different things. The latter of course will involve getting it running, but so much more is needed than just starting the car to see if it runs.
It may run if you add fluids, oil, water and fuel. With a battery hooked up, you can hand crank it to see if the coils buzz, and then...

I wanted to get your advise. On my 27 when the hand brake is in the neutral position the rear brakes are holding. I have lined rear brakes. Achieving precise handbrake adjustment in combination with the clutch and low gear settings can be a real challenge.
Having one piece brake rods adds to the frustration and I’ve often considered adding a flexible cable or similar at one end of the brake rods.
I have cured all of this by using the Clevis Pin that has a sliding element built into...

I seem to have a lot of excess thread on the front engine mount. Is something missing?
The spring has 7 leaves.

An 8th leaf and a proper castle nut will take car of at least 3/8 of that extra thread. Then check for the split pin holes. Or, find a correct replacement.
