LED lights to replace Gas lights

I recently changed my acetylene head lights, in my 11 T, to LED lights based on an article in the Jan/Feb Horseless Carriage GAZETTE. Using the 3500K 6 watt COB bulbs I was very happy with the results. The light color is comparable to the gas lights. I didn't notice it at the time, but with the lights off and the engine running, I get a faint...

Thanks for your comments Jim. Tried the light bulb and still pulsating. I guess the brass antenna is to strong. I suppose I should consider it free energy and live with it.

Oatman, Az. Our club went there about 4 years ago. We stopped in a local cafe for some coffee and dessert. While there a group of motorcyclists came in. They had parked together in front of the place. While we were there someone came in, and asked, Who owns those motorcycles? . A burro had bumped one of them and it was like a domino effect!

I was looking for something else in a photo archive and I found these photos of a head made by Economy Motor Head CO. It has For Ford Model T Motor cast into the head. The patent date is October 1925. Is anyone familiar with this head? It has a curious combustion chamber shape. I would imagine that it would require a special head gasket....
Last post
First thing that caught my eye (after the swirl) was the shape of the combustion chamber - maybe the predecessor of the hemispherical head... call it a Semi-Hemi? It'd be fun to try out just to see what it did - would it scald the cat or be an anchor-dragger?

Presto! Change-o! Off with the diskies, on with the wires. The disks performed flawlessly, but I think they look funny on a stock car. I think that they look great on speedsters, however.

I'll be curious to see if it changes your top speed for next years Montana 500, Tom... I was always told by some old timers the diskies were more aerodynamic than the wireys, but it'd be interesting to take a known car (like yours) that has speed records and see what difference the wires make to the discs.

If you have that option, by all means, install them without cutting them. After countersinking and riveting the liners on, make them as round as possible before sliding them onto the drums from the rear. You won’t be disappointed with their performance and if you are careful, they may last until your next rebuild. Good luck. Jim Patrick

Agree, must be issue of the screw shaft too, as the threads shouldn’t end in an abrupt stop, rather that last groove should be smooth opening.
The little drift pin should then be in the reduced section of the shaft. That keeps the gear from vibrating back towards the flywheel since the spring loaded pin is now expanded in the rear most...

Yes. You can buy just the pads. I would suggest upholstery thread and needles to repair your top. Then you should be able to use tar from inside a coil to slather on top of the stitches. That would be authentic for the era.

Are the 1919-22 floor mats the same as the 1923-25?

- 1915-1919 = same floor mat (flat firewall shield)

Something I've noticed is there is a Made in USA in the corner of the Ford script on original mats. This is something that has been omitted on the new ones. The starter versions have an embossment around the starter switch. My '14 has an embossment around the speedometer cable hole. This is a very early '14 made in '13.

I measured an original gaslight hose from the radiator tube to the headlight. It is 10 . The one from the radiator to the frame rail pipe is 5 1/2 . The one for the frame rail pipe to the tank is missing, but I think it is 28 . Does anyone know the original length? I wish we could buy the correct hose!

When I cut the hole in the splash shield for the generator hose, I started with a very small hole, maybe 1/8 dia. I drilled a 7/16 hole in a block of wood, and centered it on the block of wood, held in place with a floor jack. I carefully used a taper punch to enlarge the hole to the original size. Can't tell it from the original!

Dont the early steering column shafts have a different steering ratio so the pins are in a different location or are the gears just a differnt size for the later columns?

I loved the idea of the hub cap force amplifier for removal of a hot radiator cap. I watched the video too! I would caution everyone concerning reaching across the steam path for removal of the cap. On the recent T towing thread many folks commented about removing key so you don't lose it. Here is a little free information regarding Stromberg OF carburetors.
Not all OF's were for Model T's. There was also a version made for Overland cars. The major differences are:
1. The mounting holes are slightly further apart to fit the Overland manifold.
2. The mounting holes are not threaded as the T version of the OF is, they are are...

Mark, I just avoid them. I have so many OF bodies that need parts I spend time on those.

If you look at the last photo I posted, the gas line hoses appear

Model T oil pressure tech question?

First post
Recently acquired a Model T Speedster. It has an aftermarket oil pressure system. Don't have a clue about the Builder.
I started it and zero oil pressure to the gauge. Oil is as supposed to be, upper petcock. The pump and filter are above the Model T sump could it needed to be primed? 3.jpg
Last post
Share some answers to my original question.
Drained the oil. Then pulled the filter (There is a bolt on top that drops the filter housing). It was seriously clogged with crud. Cleaned the housing inside and out. Filled the housing with fresh oil, then added fresh oil Non-Detergent to the engine.

I make a needle of my own design that uses the original seat. I do not like drilling out the original seat to put a modern type seat in.
Most of those do not pull the needle open as this design does.

How many different stock T wheels are there? Looking through videos and have counted at least three including the wire ones.

There were a few different wheels used throughout production. First in 1909 you had the very skinny spoke wood felloe wheels with the smaller diameter hubs. Next you still had fairly skinny spokes in 1911 with the larger diameter hubs. Around 1913 the spokes got a little larger in diameter and I think the felloe got a little thicker so I would...

I have the drive shaft ready for assembly. Before I do final assembly a question, the bearings sleeve is 3 1/16 but my bearing is only 2 7/8. 3/16 of play on the sleeve is correct. Don’t want to start tightening things up and set end play in not.

Just thought I'd share a shot and my excitement! Got my 1915 cut-down touring running yesterday, and actually drove a 'T' fir the first time! Even though we have two other T's in the family, I've never been behind the wheel. Yesterday was the first time since the early 1960s the car ran under its own power and just over 1 year and 4 months from...

I think a cutoff touring made into a pickup is very cool! Mainly because that was what was done back in the day to do what was needed to be done. Same thing with tractor conversions, I've always wanted one. Dave

I've dealt with whitewalls that have browned and that is a completely different animal. Typically it will clean away with Bleche-Wite. At worst they can be wet sanded clean with 600gt sandpaper. I've not seen whitewalls that turn brown experience the inconsistent surface degradation of the rubber where you'll have a dense hard spot right next to...

The pulley pin on my '26 is sloppy in the crank hole. The pin is not worn (0.375 ). Is it safe, or even possible to drill out the hole in the crank and the pulley to the next standard bolt size ( 0.391), or is there another fix. The hole in the crank is already 0.386 . Obviously I'm concerned about keeping a hand held drill running true through...

And this would be 1910-1911, this is where the change from the babbit bushings to the bearing spool was made (probably really showed up in late 1909, but as we all know that is really 1910's starting date).

What is the spacing between the insulators on a wooden firewall?
That is the spacing between each of the 8 ceramics that go through the fire wall?
I have measured 2 coil boxes and have some variation in the range of 1 or 2 32nds.
