Couple of choices - Muratic acid. It's messy and could be dangerous. Google stipping nickle plating from brass and you'll find you-tube videos on how to do it. It's addressed mainly at removing the plating from plumbing fixtures, but essentially is the same process.

Adjusting clutch

I have the Ford Bible but it only outlines the procedure to adjust the clutch fingers if the clutch is slipping. I have the opposite issue- the free clutch isn't. Iwould like to do a clutch adjustment starting at the fingers - then move on to the linkage. Is there a specification for adjusting the clutch fingers?
Last post
I would suspect your link between the clutch lever and the low pedal needs adjustment. Maybe the low band is too tight. You should be able to move the pedal down to about 1 1/2 inch above the floorboard before the low band locks the drum and you move in low gear. If the low is too tight, it will begin to lock when you reach the neutral position,...

I would like to get rid of my water pump on my 1915 touring. With a 23 belt, my fan hits the crank start. I think a 23 1/2 belt would work but I can't find anything to fit. The model T belts jump from a 23 to a 25 7/8 My crank pulley measures 3.5 across. I just want belt that will go around the crank and fan. HELP! Bobt

I found out that my crank pulley was too large (about 3 1/2 across) I'm going to order a smaller one and a 23 belt. Sorry, No pictures, Technology is passing me by. Thanks for all the input. Bobt

2 man tops are used on the 14-early 22 Touring cars. A Roadster top in the 14-22 era isn’t called a 2 man top. It’s simpler to install than a Touring top as it has just 1 set of bows. ( 2 bows). Touring cars have 4 bows in there set.
Make sure your top bows are in good stable shape and the wood in them is good. Usually it need to be replaced....

Compare the width with a common later hogshead. If the early one is that one inch narrower around the flywheel area, it is '09 into late '10. If the early one is the same as the later one, it is later '10 into early '11. The engine pan/lower crankcase also is narrower on the earliest cars.

Thanks Tom

Yes, you need to do the inner seals also. Check the sleeves and bearings for wear since you can't deal an axle wallowing around in the tube.

I reinstalled the original windshield frame back into the body. The brackets that are riveted to the frame hit the posts that the knob for the sliders attach to and the brackets that the knob screws into is out of alignment with the sliders. There are no adjustments that I can find. Boy is this hard to explain. I'll try and take some photos, maybe...

Richard: On my '26 coupe the brackets with the threaded stud that mount to the 'A' pillar are installed so the stud is below the center point between the two screws. If reversed, the stud will be above the center point and I think the stud and windshield bracket for the arm will then interfere. See it that is the case. And the arms are installed...

As for the lube/don't lube argument about the lube attracting grit, I've heard that same argument from back in the '60's from farmers regarding farm equipment. Trust me, ANY lube is far and away better than none, rust and dry parts will eat up components far faster than oily grit. Been there, done that. ;) Dave

I’m putting together a home made depot hack/huckster. I just received my reg and insurance cards. What are some ideas as to where to store these documents ?

I have the registration card plastic laminated at Staples, then keep them under the rear floor mat of my touring car.

Working on a transmission that had a low band slipping, drum got hot. This is a repro drum. Was wondering if drum is shot? Anyone seen this and used the drum? I have contacted drum maker and am waiting for reply. Did not find any cracks when mag fluxed.
I know band should not be allowed to slip, but that boat sailed. Just wondering if anyone has...

I believe the issue would be what caused the drum to get overly hot and not any issue with the drum.

Every time my elder son is transported in the ambulance, we score sheets and cotton blankets as they are no longer laundered. The sheets are dustproof and the blankets hold them down. This is one small upside to being 24hr carers.

Hello All:
Curious what the earliest 09 was where the frame was no longer modified with reinforcing Fish Plates. I've heard estimates on this, but not seen or heard of actual surviving documentation?
Ford Build Sheets show a date for chassis assembly inspection, and a date for finished car inspection. Anyone know what a typical duration between...

I found an on-line program to convert the build sheets from *.pdf to *.jpg
The quality is poor but is as good as the original they sent me.

Some good ideas there Herm, what are you using for a plug in the drain? And are you taking width off the shoe?
I milled of the cast iron, only, off both sides of the shoe, up to the lining. These shoes are crude, I won't be using them again.
The drain plug is large zerk size. The plug was a Allen wrench, flat plug.

I’m building a speedster and have a cut off Overland touring body that this speedometer fits perfectly in a factory hole. I was wondering if this gear, 60 tooth 8 pitch, would be the correct gear used with a 1 1/2 to 1 swivel? If not which gear do I need?
Last post
I meant 2 1/2- 1 swivel. I think I need a 58 tooth gear for 21” wheels. I’ve got Model A wheels on an Overland axle with a T frame so I can make any gear fit. I just happened to have the one already.

Thanks for the pix Robert. Interesting stuff. Seems like the tubes are too stingy for an outside oiler, what does that cylindrical item do ?
As for the ball-end nut, is it possible the two pieces didn't originally go together ? I've seen hinge pin finials that were threaded to go in the body of the hinge . . .

Can the TT ratio be determined in a sealed housing and the axles stuck. In otherwords are there any outside markings? I am at a swap meet and a fella has a rear end he says is 5:1 but no physical way to check it. Thought about pulling the worm but the bolt heads are about to the point of needing a cuttin torch.
Last post
I will double check as I have 2 in the garage, but I think if the bearing will come out of input side you can count teeth as well. Assumption is rear doesn’t have torque tube on it. Just a thought. No outside markings that are a sure thing from my experience. Like a box of chocolates.....

First post
Hi everyone,
I was cleaning my radiator today (1915 brass) and it suddenly developed a pretty substantial leak. Upon removing the radiator cap, a steady stream of drops started pouring out of the overflow tube at the bottom of the radiator. It is definitely coming from the tube and not anywhere else, since plugging the tube with a finger stops...
Last post
Quick fix is to shove a piece of rubber tubing over it that just fits snugly. If that fixes the leak, then the overflow tube has some internal perforations and should be fixed correctly by a radiator repair shop.

Chuck,
If you contact Susan Yaeger (she is listed on the contacts at: ) and provide her your zip-code, she can probably put you in contact with some other folks from that same area. (It might help if you give her some other zip-codes near you.)
And driving your T is also a good way to meet other folks.
Good luck,

Just purchased an air pump for my fuel tank to replace the one missing on my 1911 Chalmers. Was hoping to find out what oil or grease those of you who use hand pumps, use.
Thanks!
Last post
From the Colman Company for care of the pump;
When it's time to take out your lantern, remember to oil the pump cup on the tank's pump plunger at least twice a year with a light machine oil. This allows the cup to seal against the inside of the pump barrel and insures the pump will work smoothly and push air into the tank properly.

How do you remove and install 27 brake shoes? I can't remove the spring much less reinstall it after the shoe is fitted over the tabs and the brake cam.
Last post
I don't have hard time. I have the shoe off the car and attach the spring. Then I put the shoe on the backing plate and then push one of the shoe tabs on the cam and then use a screwdriver and pry the other on. It works for me.

The ball choke is actually a muffler - it changes the tone of the allegedly annoying hiss that Winfield carbs have to something less in your ear ... I've never really noticed that it was particularly annoying myself, but I guess some people do.
Maybe because I run the car a little faster and that hiss vanishes out the back with the greater...

We in India are restoring a Ford Model T Town car. We have two questions regarding the spare wheel.
1. Did the town cars have spare wheels which was mounted on the side?
2. In some discussions which we came across, the town cars never had any mounted spare wheels.
Please clarify which of the above is correct.
