NuGrape soda delivery TT Truck

Here’s a neat photo of a Sodawater delivery TT Truck. Use to see NuGrape in this Central Texas area but that was in the 50’s -;60’s but not much after that. The angle of the shelves kept the bottles from bouncing around a falling off I would imagine.

Speedster Question

I posted this in the wrong place so I moved it here. Has anyone run an auxiliary transmission with a low, straight, and overdrive without a low gear drum or band in the transmission and shifted with the auxiliary? This would turn the high/low pedal into a straight clutch pedal. Pulling the drum would reduce the rotating weight of the transmission....
Last post
If you are just looking at gearing ratios it may be worth mentioning that what looks good on paper inst always the easiest to drive. A warford can be shifted easy between d to o and back but nowhere near as easy from u to d and we'll d to u could be very noisy. . .Of course this is assuming original equipment not repro.

Hi all
I'd like to positively identify this tail light / license plate assembly. Its in Australia, so if it came here in 1926-27 its likely a Canadian part. The drop arm looks like the standard US part for a 1926-27 roadster-pickup. The license plate holder and light body look like standard Canadian 1926-27 parts. Its a factory assembly - the...

Here are some comparison photos showing the (apparently) Canadian Roadster Pickup assembly next to a standard fender mounted 1926-27 Australian (Canadian) assembly. According to the FHA site by 1924 there were over 15 million automobiles registered for road use.
By this time, late 1920s, automobile thefts and...

Thanks Dan. Mine is stitched on that curve. If I can get it to fit I may use it to protect the door panel The escutcheon ring around the door handle seems to be longer that the cutout in the door so i may have some carving to do to get it to fit.

I don’t know if a small flexible cable could be had in the 20’s but since air was available that’s what was used in the manual.
The Ford Service Bulletins for April 1919, suggest the using of an old speedometer cable as a snake to clean out the oil tub. Ford may not have had speedometers with cables, but other automobiles of the period did.

So the car was built in 1971.
That means it has been like that for 52 years.
That makes it 'older' than many of the used parts were when the car was built.
That means it has 'existed' longer than the original cars that donated to its construction.
That makes it a genuine 'correct classic' in its own right :-)

Location of back curtain straps 1922

Can someone please post a clear picture of where exactly the woven rear curtain straps are supposed to attach to the touring body? I know the early style L shaped saddle bracket is where the D ring attached on 1921 and earlier T’s, but I don’t think that will work on the later straight style brackets. Help!!!

I think it’s a 10 cause of how dark the paint is . Must be green.
It may be - but remember that film at that time was color blind and not sensitive to red. That tended to make red go very dark to black depending on the amount of UV light it reflected. I love these old photos. They really make things come to life again.

Got an original Ford pump at Luray.
Replaced the leather and it blows air with the air hose off. Connect it to a bicycle tube, and it does nothing
There’s no ball bearing present in the hose fitting, either.
What obvious item am I overlooking?

I now have a 12 volt battery in my 1915 for the tail/brake lights and turn signals. I was afraid a 12 volt tire pump might draw too much juice from a battery without a generator, but I tried it and it was fine. I still carry a Model T tire pump as a backup, and it still works as it did a hundred years ago. It will blow a tire up to 70 psi, but you...

Hi all, I'm considering two different rear view mirror options for my 17 Touring... the clamp-on version or the suction cup type. I'm hesitant to do either because, for the clamp-on clamps right on the metal window frame and there's a metal slider behind the mirror that touches the windshield. This doesn't seem like a good idea. The suction cup...

You could actually use that single contact plug in your double contact socket if you connect only one of the pins to the battery supply, and make sure the shell of the socket is grounded.

Thread Size, Early Spark and Throttle Rods

Original Smith » Wed Jun 14, 2023 1:39 pm
First post
For years, I've been using coil point nuts as a jamb nut for the spark and throttle rods on my early cars. I don't know if Ford did that? Next question is what is the thread size? I'm thinking 12-32? If a jamb not isn't used, the vibration from the engine will eventually wear out the threads.
Last post
Keith, on our RHD cars the swivel end is on the right side of the car, quite near the carburetor. Because of the twisting change in geometry between the control arm on the throttle rod and the arm on the carburetor throttle rod, the swivel end needs to be fitted to the steering column end.

I took the 23 touring out to check it out before next week's Manhattan, Ks tour. After 15 miles and a long uphill pull it started to smell a little warm so I slowed down. I'd put a straight radiator cap on instead of my usual moto meter. After a few miles it was smelling hot so I pulled into our church to check and perhaps fill with water. The...

the little bit funny oil doesn't surprise me...it takes only a fractional amount of water to make oil look odd...I foolishly started a T at about 0 degrees 2 winters ago and shut it down long before it got warm. I ended up with 2 stuck valves the next summer. After I got it running, I changed the oil and boy did the green/grey oil give me a start!...

Rebuilt Carb or Rebuild Carb

I'm considering rebuilding the carb on my '26 Roadster. The car starts well, idles well and runs good in low, but when shifting to high it almost wants to die and loses all power briefly. It will come out of it and continue in high. (Yes, I have newly rebuilt coils) Is it worth buying a rebuilt one or could I probably do a good enough job on my...

I’m wondering if you have the mixture set to lean. I’ve seen people doing this. I find that i definitely adjust the carb on my 27 (NH) in the middle of rich and lean. Just a thought.

There were two models. One like the one on the trailer at Chickasha where a belt drove the engine block you were burning in. And the other where you could put a whole running engine on to drive the second block you were burning in, as in the shop picture. I suppose if you left a complete running engine there, you could use it to run the line shaft...

Darel, doesn’t the angle that the arms are positioned/cast limit the ability to turn on an early T set up? When I didn’t know anything about early Ts I bought a set of those for about $250 and didn’t discover the difference until I mounted them on an early axle couldn’t get them to work. Unfortunately I also straighten the arms trying to make it...

Does anyone have a graph depicting rpm vs. mph? Is 50 mph 2000 rpm in high gear? (TT truck, ruckstel, and warford excluded. Stone stock car only)
Last post
I don't think they are directly related. MPG will also be affected by the grade uphill, downhill, level. And it will be affected by the wind speed and direction. Also the weight of the vehicle and load. And will be affected by the condition of the engine. Too many variables.

I have a photo in my files that I cannot post right now that shows the comparison of a later sedan to a Centerdoor. It shows a 1/2 round molding that covers the seam from the roof to the rear metal panel.
Is this accurate, or was the rear panel just nailed over the roof with nothing to protect the seam?
Last post
I found this:
“The roof is of the soft type with artificial leather reinforced and padded, making it as durable and substantial as the old fiber board type , and eliminating the possibility of vibration noises.”
The above is talking about the new Sedan coming out in 1923

I took off the spare tire/rim off about 6 months ago but don’t remember how to remount. Have two bracelets near top and one bolt on bottom to secure rim then use bolt to tighten.

You'll need the rim clamp to be like factory. Plus the shouldered nut on that carriage bolt.

Well, it’s official, my valve guides all uniformly mic out to .314
My newly purchased .312 valves actually mic out to .311, so 3 thousandths across the board!
My research indicates that the rule of thumb for valve clearance between valve stem and guide to be:
Intake 0.001-0.003
Exhaust 0.002-0.004
Still seems like a lot of sideward movement in...
