Any Clock Collectors out there?

Post by Mark Osterman » Mon Jan 03, 2022 6:32 pm

Here is my 1880 Howard tower clock. Only runs for one day because the weight only goes to the dining room floor. Not sure why my wife doesn’t like the idea of putting a small hole in the floor for the weight cable. 😄

It looks predatory... Salvador Dali would have married it!

Add a couple pulleys and route the cable back up to the ceiling. Could look pretty cool.

Good one!
That thing has got to be loud. Even my windup wall clock is loud when the house is quiet.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

Instead of putting a hole in that beautiful floor why not put a nice and appropriate pedestal under it. Then it may run for three or four days. Sorry, I always get in trouble for thinking. Frank

Very nice. I would love to have one. Not cheap! I almost bought a very small example some years ago, (a Howard "0"??).

I'd think it would make a very pleasing sound in a space with good acoustics. In a large space with a harsh echo it might sound sinister...

Very cool clock. Been a member of the NAWCC for a long time (pun intended). I grew up in Waltham just down the road from the Howard company. I used to tinker with them but now with a T. Ha!!!

This one was built about 1745. Still going strong.

Didn't lay it, but knew the guys who knew the guy!

Got to meet a lot of very interesting oldsters back then, including Fred Selchow, the fellow who invented Scrabble...what a fine and distinguished gentleman he was, and always had time to speak to me, when many other far less auspicious folks did not.

I was the youngest member of the organization for a number of years.

Many years ago!
