UPDATE - What’s up with Distilled Water ??
UPDATE
I finally found some at Target - $1.29 per gallon.
I use it primarily to mix 50/50 with antifreeze for the T
I also picked up another shortage item - Siracha.
Due to a bad crop of chili peppers this year, it is in short supply.
Most retailers are out of it.
Target is becoming my new go-to over Walmart.
The world is right again

What’s up with Distilled Water?
I used to be able to get distilled water at Walmart for under $2 a gallon.
Walmart hasn’t had distilled water in a long time.
I went to every major grocery retailer and no one has distilled water.
Desperate, I went to Amazon. Prices range from $6 - $8 to over $20 a gallon.
So, what happened?
Is Distilled Water the latest worldwide shortage item?

I suppose so. I read that a Sriracha shortage is expected. I'm down to one bottle, so I decided to get another one next trip to WahMart. Nope. No Sriracha. I was thinking of getting a gallon of distilled water to put in my windshield washer. I guess that's out. I don't buy much stuff, and what I do buy has been staple, everyday stuff for years. I never go to the store anymore without finding several items out of stock. Not to mention prices fopr many items jumping 15, 20, 30 % or more. Maybe we need to mob-up and go rush the Mexican border... maybe they have stuff!

A couple of days ago I went to Safeway to buy a gallon of distilled water. None available. However, Fry's (Kroger) had plenty. ($1.29 / gal.)
UPDATE: 7/2/22 Local Safeway has distilled water back in stock. @ $2.49 / gal.

Depending on what you need it for, many uses you can take demineralised water instead unless you really need the very pure distilled water.
For your battery or in the cooling system of the T, demineralised water will do excellent, as it is essentially the minerals that you don't want in there (deposits in the battery and shale in your engine and rad)
Demi water is cheaper, available at most parts stores or you can buy a filter and make your own..

When in trouble, do not fear, blame the second engineer !

Bob,
WOW....
I know that things are expensive out "west", but those prices are obscene.
'Guess that I'd better stop complaining....I used to get distilled water at Walmart for $.88 (88 cents), Price went up last month...now it is $.98. I use it for my Cpap machine.
I'd send you some, but the darned shipping would probably be $10.00 a gallon....PLUS, the plastic gallon container is pretty thin...it may not hold together for the ride.

Re: What’s up with Distilled Water ??
I make my own! I have a 1 gallon Pickle jar with a big cork and some copper tubing. I fill the jar with water from my well put the cork with copper tubing in it and set the jar in the Florida sun, run the coiled copper tubing into the shade to discharge into a plastic jug... takes about 1 day to make 2/3 gallon how much do you use?
Do it right or do it over, your choice. Drive like everyone is out to get you!

Re: What’s up with Distilled Water ??
I always wondered if there is an issue using the water from a dehumidifier.

Re: What’s up with Distilled Water ??
I'd be cautious about using dehumidifier water. It could have mold, dust and lint in it. The same is probably true of air conditioner condensate. A fan forced dehumidifer, an air conditioner, or a dehumidfier that is part of an air conditioning duct system would have a lot of air passing over the wet coil and collection pan. Any airborne particulate matter in the air stream would tend to get caught on the coil or in the water in the pan.

Re: UPDATE - What’s up with Distilled Water ??
How about buying your own distillator, there are 'small capacity' units that are not very expensive. Might take a while, but if you have time.

Re: UPDATE - What’s up with Distilled Water ??
I saw Adrians post about distilling your own water so I googled "Personal water distillers" and they are available on line and at different department stores. The prices range from $60 to $420 depending on what you want.

Re: UPDATE - What’s up with Distilled Water ??
If you live in a sunny area, you can make distilled water as described above. If you have an old satellite dish, you can cover the face of it with aluminum foil and set it up to focus sunlight on your raw water bottle during the middle of the day. Your vapor tube ("worm" needs to run downhill to your collection bottle, and both the tube and collection bottle need to be kept as cool as is practical.

Works great! Auto shut off. Not the cheapest model but it’s high quality stainless steel.
