THIS 27 CHEVY ENGINE'D DOODLE BUG WAS BUILT BY A LEO CAVALEAR IN 1948, FROM A MECHANICS ILLASTRATED BOOK, IT WORKED OUR FARM MANY YEARS, IT NOW LIVES IN NEW YORK, IT HAS A 1927 DURANT REAR END FOR STEERING-THE I BEAM IS FROM A BUILDING FROM BOSTON, TWO TRANSMISSIONS WHEN BOTH PUT IN REVERSE IT WOULD CREEP AT WALKING SPEED.

You coming this year? Just teasing, but it will be the largest gathering of pre 192... ever for IHC equipment.A Whiteman wrote: ↑Fri Jul 24, 2020 10:11 pmWell, once this virus is resolved (when/if) a trip to the US will be on the cards (my daughter is engaged to a Texas based chap). I would love to take up the offer to drive those tractors, even just up the track and back. So what show and where do I have to plan to come to? (Even though it may be "years" away I would like to pencil that it in

Haha would love to. Here I am a year later LOCKED DOWN again. Our government's beloved leader has a thing about talking, not much actually gets done though, so she just puts us on ice when the virus breaks out again.
Looking forward to seeing pictures of the gathering !

Herb, if you are an IHC guy this is the show to see. Big single cylinder friction drives will be in attendance. The offer for driving a prairie tractor stands if any of you guys want to make the trip. Oh and if you think your T is slow you ain't seen nothing yet! Some big pieces are being hauled in from at least four or five states. Heard rumor of one coming from the east coast!

Mike P isn't fudging facts. The Albany, MN IH show will be awesome!
In my under-a-rock view, we have a bit of a revelation for fellas that have expressed interest.
See if this is interesting. Getting dark. View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBoup8VTBrg&t=2s
Son drove up for tomatoes that I got earlier today. I forgot the gas can on the tomato run when I filled my pickup tank but he didn't.
Lots of small issues but in less than two minutes the Twin City 21-32 engine in a VERY early chassis runs. And pretty good!
Much to do/learn yet. The Stromberg M-3 carb especially. Happy. Yes I've blubbered about it thrice so far.
This engine had not been run-in with a belt from another tractor. FRESH. Like a certain Mack truck engine of Paul's.
Just crank it.

IH years are always strong in Albany yet lots of colors of tractors to be seen.
Michael, I shouldn't post after yours but this is special.
And it'll be good to see you.
A tiny taste of things to come this weekend. Oop, this site does not support embedded. That's OK.

Re: Share Your Tractor(s) - old ones that is ;-)
Thought I would share my latest old tractor find. This was just a couple months ago, during our heat wave out in the PNW. I dug this out of an old quansot hut at a former dairy farm about 50 miles from my place. I had heard rumors of it and decided to chase them down, because you just never know if they're true or not. My lesson learned is to do it because the gems are still out there.

Re: Share Your Tractor(s) - old ones that is ;-)
One more shot of the Big Bull's 2 cylinder engine. It's currently stuck, but all complete. To start it, you stick the hand crank through the spokes of the left/rear land wheel. I have no idea what you do if you happen to shut it down and the wheel spoke blocks the shaft where the hand crank slips into. This thing weighs over 8000 lbs, so you would need to hitch up the mules to move the thing enough to get the crank attached to start it. Gee, wonder why these things never made it very long in the tractor world????

Wow!
I might have an old photo of something like that tractor. I got the photo from Washington Missouri a long time ago.

Wow! I just don't know what to say! Very lucky find! Very, very lucky.
I started a little bull between the spokes like Rich shows to parade but another fellow was tasked with the same so I let him drive it thru.
It might have been interesting to use that clutch that might not disengage.
It hasn't been paraded in several years. Oh, no brakes on the little Bull's either.
I believe Gile twin-opposed engines. They do run pretty!
Embarrassing to admit that they were contract-built by Minneapolis Steel and Machinery.
Builders of the Twin City line of tractors. "Built to do the work. Not to meet a price."
Bull tractors were not.
I don't have many jealous bones in my body.
Very happy for you. Really rare piece of ag history!
Do show us more if you would.

Had to look again. Look at that bull gear in the outrigger wheel! Good eye Rudy! Must have been for the tractor pulling thing at that time...
or not so much. My guess is trying to put two pulling wheels under your turd!

Re: Share Your Tractor(s) - old ones that is ;-)
Hi Rudy and Michael. I've attached 2 photos of the optional "land wheel drive" on the Big Bull. In early 2019, Aumann Auctions sold a Big Bull from the late Alan Schurman auction in Woodland, Washington. It also had the land wheel drive on it. At the time, they noted they had not seen a Bull with this, but mine also has it. I'm not sure how good it did, as the wheel itself has no provisions for attaching any growzers or lugs to it, so if it hit any soft soil at all it was pretty much worthless. One of the many things which helped bring about the Nebraska Tractor tests to insure farmers actually got what was promised to them.

Just thought I would post this.
My latest "fix it project".Not a restoration as people would accuse me of just converting it.
1980 Wheel Horse E- 141 electric tractor.
the little yellow 1 is my E-8 GE Electrac just for size comparison.

Re: Share Your Tractor(s) - old ones that is ;-)
That old Twin City 21-32 tractor I’ve been working on. Second off the line after production was introduced on Jan 1, 1929.
I went transmission fishing up thru the drain plug (magnetic colonoscopy) after draining a couple years ago.
Found some broken bevel gear teeth. (Differential gears).
I knew there was a big broken cotter key from a steering incident in there. Replaced that missing cotter.
Of course it went thru the gears. The differential gear shards were alarming tho.
Jeez, I have another tractor right here in the yard but it’s another 1929 tractor. First year production.
Hugh Jass project but no, not sharing/lending parts from that. Other than fenders...
I layed low and pondered a replacement bull gear/differential/ and what to do.
A friend went fishing for steering parts in the glue on a 1930 parts tractor in April for a later 1930 tractor he found.
His “new" tractor had gone thru a steering incident also but broke the sector gear holder where the column screws in.
So busted-up he couldn’t get the steering column out of the transmission cover pass-thru hole.
The gear. He was willing to fish-out the bull gear/differential and even delivered it!
This tractor not meant for real field work anymore due to his heritage. Too early and loose.
Mustn’t split the transmission case apart on HEAVY pulls either. 1st 500 units. After that there is a support to help.
232. The bits. One can tell a lot about crunched parts by the striations.
Hard pieces are rough sided while soft things like the cotter pin are smoother.
1. 5/8 X 6 bolts do a nice deal of holding the axles so ya don’t have to wrangle them by themselves.
11. Where the missing bevel gear teeth belong I found when fishing.
5. Hang the new gear in the case and fuss with re-installing axles.
The left axle, much like a combination pad-lock, bucked us at every turn until the combo was found.
21 right, 17 left, twice around right to 28 sort of thing...

My dad had a bunch of tractors on our farm, including a classic like the 1952 John Deere Model B. He loved collecting and using them for all sorts of farm work. Growing up around these machines was great, but when I took over, I decided to go with newer models for reliability and efficiency.
